Montgomery Found Guilty

Robin E. Montgomery was found guilty in Vanderburgh Superior Court of Dealing in Methamphetamine – B Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement – D Felony and Two (2) Counts of Criminal Recklessness – A Misdemeanors.
Judge Robert Pigman will sentence Montgomery on March 19 at 1:00 P.M. If charges are run concurrent, he is facing between 6-20 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Montgomery is also facing similar charges in Warrick County.
Montgomery was arrested in August of 2013 while fleeing a meth lab. Officers on scene believed Montgomery also swerved his van at them in his attempted escape.

Rep. Sullivan’s first bill passes out of both chambers
STATEHOUSE – House Bill (HB) 1286 authored by State Representative Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) has now passed out of both chambers of the Indiana General Assembly.
HB 1286 requires the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), the Indiana Finance Authority and Purdue University to provide annual reports to the Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions regarding the condition of Indiana’s transportation network and infrastructure.
“As the Crossroads of America, we need to continue setting a precedence of high standards and constant improvement for our roads and bridges and everything in between. This legislation will help us continue improving Indiana’s transportation systems,†said Rep. Sullivan.
“The timely, detailed, relevant data gathered from these reports will greatly help the study committee make headway on their endeavors over the interim. Having a top-notch infrastructure system leads to job creation, economic development, and much more.â€
The annual reports will be submitted by August 1 of 2014 and 2015.
This legislation is effective immediately upon enactment.
EVSC to Offer Full-Day Summer Childcare
Parents in Evansville and the surrounding area have another option for summer childcare – EVSC Camp Destination. Camp Destination is a full-day summer childcare program for area students offered at three EVSC schools: Hebron, Stringtown and Vogel.
Camp Destination will operate from May 27 through August 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and is open to any school-aged student in Evansville and the surrounding area. Children enrolled in Camp Destination will go on field trips to local swimming pools, bowling alleys, movie theatres and more. Each week of the camp will have a theme with activities surrounding that theme.
The cost for the camp is $90 per week and EVSC students currently attending EVSC Extended Day Centers will have first consideration. Remaining openings will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Registration forms will be available in the Extended Day Center Office of each elementary school beginning March 3. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration.

Bill to speed abandoned property sales moves to House

INDIANAPOLIS – Those looking to invest in abandoned housing could enjoy a faster process under a bill approved by the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee.
Senate Bill 422 would let buyers take ownership of homes that had been deemed by a judge to be abandoned as soon as a tax sale is finished. Current law requires buyers to wait a year, during which time the previous owner can pay back taxes and redeem the property.
State Rep. Justin Moed, D-Indianapolis, said that’s meant in part to stop investors from buying properties in hopes that the owner will pay the back taxes – along with required interest – to the bidder.
“This is the best way to ensure these properties end up in the hands of people who want to fix them,†Moed said. “It’s a fast track sales process for abandoned properties.â€
The bill also requires out-of-state investors to register as Indiana companies to bid at tax sales. Wayne Greeson, an attorney representing out-of-state investors, said that’s a problem.
“Indiana is a favorable state for investors, especially for those out of state, and this bill will hurt that,†Gresson said.
But others were in favor of this bill, saying that Hoosiers will benefit.
The bill passed the committee unanimously.
Evansville Police Department Foundation Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Public Safety Grant

Grant to support safety education and training programs
The Evansville Police Department Foundation (EPDF), a non-profit created to support the Evansville Police Department, today announced it has received $10,000 as part of the Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Public Safety and Security Institute. The Motorola Solutions Foundation is the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions Inc. Through the grant, EPDF will be able to fund three Citizen’s Academies in 2014. The academies provide members of the public an opportunity to learn safety and gives an overall education about the department.
The Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Grants support safety education and training programs for first responders, their families and the general public in the United States and Canada.
“This grant allows the department to continue and expand our Citizen’s Academies to further our strategy to partner with our community,†Said Chief Billy Bolin.
The department will offer a Spring and Fall Academy, as well as a Traveling Citizen’s Academy that will be offered in the Summer at a location in the community. The academy generally will be offered for 10 weeks, one night per week for approximately 3 hours. There will be safety presentations, as well as presentations by members of almost every area of the department, including Crime Scene, Narcotics, SWAT, Sex Crimes Investigation, Homicide Investigations and K-9. There will also be self-defense tips and a round table discussion with the Police Chief, Mayor and Prosecutor on graduation night. IS IT TRUE that Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has rescheduled the GOLDEN SHOVEL moment for the downtown convention hotel for March 10, 2014 at 3 PM on the soon to be construction site?…it was announced yesterday along with the news that HCW of Branson, Missouri has secured favorable financing for the project to move forward?…the players in the financing of course are local government to the tune of $20 Million, Old National Bank with up to $14 Million, and HCW for the balance of $37 Million as a combination of loans and down payment?…we can actually breathe a sigh of relief that this project was able to be financed as deals like this for hotels do not come forward everyday for mid-sized American cities?…we must realize that this is a ceremony and not a real construction event?…there is much work to be done, permits to be issued, and the “moorings†problem with the site to be mitigated before real work can begin but this is a step in the right direction?…we hope there is not another surprise delay in this nearly 6 year saga?
IS IT TRUE that the Public Policy Forum that will be run by the law firm of Woods and Woods and broadcasted by the City County Observer would like to reach out to County Councilman Pete Swaim and invite him to get back to his original decision to participate?…this forum will be an opportunity for Swaim and all candidates for every office to have an opportunity to discuss their beliefs on what good public policy is?…as anyone who has ever been connected to a campaign knows, it is rare that an opportunity to be heard for free presents itself on a silver platter?…we wonder what it would tell the voting public if a discussion or debate were held and one of the candidates refused to show up?…that empty podium would speak very loudly to most voters?

IS IT TRUE in a world where CBO studies, CMS (Center for Medicaid Studies), and the HHS are subject to sunshine laws and the truth can be discovered in real time for those willing to look the President of the United States should have better sense than to parrot deliberate lies?…for someone of this stature to stand before the American people and tell lie after lie about such an important subject either means the President has no respect at all for the American mental capacity or is channeling former Republican Presidential advisor, Lee Atwater’s mantra of “that’s my story and I’m sticking to itâ€?…no matter what the truth is, or what harm is done, it seems like this administration is dealing with the fallout from Obamacare by stiff-arming Congress and the press and giving the voters the finger?
Newspapers, charities among organizations exempted from Do Not Call expansion

INDIANAPOLIS – A House committee unanimously passed a bill Monday that would expand restrictions on telephone solicitation – after adding an amendment to exempt some types of organizations.
Senate Bill 349 would amend the Indiana “Do Not Call†law to include suppliers in consumer transactions and callers in commercial telephone solicitations. Monday’s amendment would exempt certain organizations with business partnerships – including newspapers, insurance companies and charities from this law
Rep. Todd Huston, R-Fishers, said that something needs to be done to control the overwhelming amount of telephone soliciting that is happening overseas and around the nation.
“It’s difficult to identify the caller because the tactics are becoming more complex,†Huston said.
He said law enforcement is having a hard time identifying where most of the calls are coming from, because they are generated in an overseas company and then directed back to an organization in the United States
Huston said that the bill would expand the liability of companies producing these calls and would make it illegal for a person to knowingly assist in an illegal call.
“This is not going to be a silver bullet, but just another enforcement tool,†said Huston.
The bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
