IS IT TRUE APRIL 29 2014-COMMISSIONER KIEFER ENDORSES MONTRATELLE

23

IS IT TRUE that the campaign manager initially selected by Marsha Abell to run her campaign is no longer in that capacity because of  unexpected family commitments?   …we hear that Carol McClintoch is trying to fill in as temporary campaign chairman for the remainder of the primary campaign?

IS IT TRUE we watched  Vanderburgh County Commissioner candidate Marsha Abell appearance on Channel 7  Brad Byrd T V show last night.  …we wonder why Ms. Abell didn’t accept an invitation by Mike Woods to appear on the City County Observer and Woods and Woods Tri-State Voices Show?  …we also wonder why Ms. Abell choose not to answer 13 political survey questions submitted to her and Bruce Ungethiem by the City County Observer concerning political issues about local county government?  …we were extremely interested in reading Ms. Abell’s response to CCO survey questions about nepotism and political patronage appointments?

IS IT TRUE we shall watch with interest when candidate for County Commission Bruce Ungethiem appears on Channel 7  Brad  Byrd show this coming Wednesday evening to answers questions about local county governmental issue?  …we hope Mr. Byrd will ask Mr. Ungethiem his opinions about political patronage and nepotism?

IS IT TRUE we hear  Maingate Bar has officially closed?  …that a sign is posted on the front  door stating that it will open in the near future under new management?  …we can’t wait to hear who the new management team will be?

IS IT TRUE that County Commissioner Joe Kiefer has undermined  Vanderburgh County GOP Party Chairmen Wayne Parke political strategy by officially endorsing John Montrastelle for County Council?  … the letter posted  below  was mailed to 3,000 register republicans by mail today speaks for itself?

Dear friend,

It has been an honor serving our community since the year 2000. In 2014, I was blessed to be selected to serve as the President of the Board of County Commissioners. I love and enjoy public service and believe good people can have a positive impact on our community – that is why I am writing you today.

John Montrastelle has been a friend of mine and my family’s since I was a child in the 1970’s. In a few days, John will be on the ballot to become your County Councilman, because he too, wants to better serve our community. Like me, John desires to be involved in local government so he can be a conscientious and effective voice for the citizens of Vanderburgh County.

Several years ago I recommended to the County Commission that we appoint John to serve on the Evansville Visitors & Convention Bureau board. Since then, John has served exceptionally on our behalf and is now serving as the President of the ECVB for the 3nd year.

I am asking you to vote for John on May 6th for County Council. He is dedicated, hardworking, and his business acumen will lend itself perfectly to helping our county face its many financial challenges. His leadership skills will help guide the county and assist me in my job as a County Commissioner.

Please accept this as my personal endorsement to elect John Montrastelle to the County Council!

Your friend,

Joe Kiefer

Breaking News !!! Sheriff Eric Williams Going To Old National Bank

Sheriff Eric Williams
Sheriff Eric Williams

Sheriff Eric Williams initiated the official process, as required by statute, of notifying the Governor’s Office and other officials of his intent to retire from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office on May 23, 2014.

After much consideration and deliberation, I have decided to tender my notice of retirement from the Sheriff’s Office to effective May 23, 2014. I have a unique and exciting opportunity to join the team at Old National Bank as the Director of Security.
It has been an honor to serve the great people of Vanderburgh County as a member of the Sheriff’s Office for over two and one half decades and as the elected sheriff since 2007. It has been an extremely challenging, rewarding, fulfilling and an amazing career. I will treasure my time serving this community in the public sector. I will leave the sheriff’s office with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Knowing that the men and women of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office are caring, conscientious, well trained, well equipped and professional public servants, I know that the office and the community will be in excellent hands.
I am very excited to be joining the team at Old National Bank. Under the leadership of Bob Jones, the Board of Directors and the senior leadership team, Old National Bank is well known as an exemplary community corporate citizen, a company with strong ethics and leader in the their industry.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!! SHERIFF ERIC WILLIAMS TO RESIGN!

15
Sheriff Eric Williams

City-County Observer just learned that Vanderburgh Co. Sheriff Eric Williams announced to his employees earlier this afternoon that he will be resigning as sheriff on 5/21/2014.

He stated that the reason why he is resigning is that he has a job offer he can’t turn down. Sources say that his long-time Chief Deputy Dave Wedding and Democratic candidate for sheriff will be appointed acting sheriff  at a soon-to-be-called Democratic caucus.

This is a breaking story so stay tuned.

Toyota Closing Northern Kentucky Headquarters: Consolidating Management in Plano, Texas

0

Toyota is closing its Erlanger, Ky. headquarters which means nearly 1,600 jobs from that facility will be moving to Texas.

The move was announced on Monday, April 28, but it’s not expected to begin until 2017.

All of the jobs from its U.S. Headquarters in California will also be moving to Texas along with other management positions currently in New York.

Toyota says the new headquarters will bring together employees who are now scattered around the country.

Gov. Steve Beshear released the following statement:

“Obviously, we are extremely disappointed by Toyota’s decision. We would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss options with Toyota, but we will now turn our attention to preparing for this transition.

We also are disappointed that the lives of hundreds of Kentuckians will be disrupted, and we pledge to assist those families however we possibly can. This transition will take two to three years to achieve, and Toyota has assured us that the company plans to offer industry-leading programs and packages to its people.

In the past 30 years, Toyota has invested approximately $6 billion in Kentucky. And with 300 jobs moving from Erlanger to Georgetown and 750 new jobs being added to support production of the Lexus ES 350, there will be some 8,200 Toyota employees in Kentucky after the move. The Toyota officials have assured us that a continued strong presence in Kentucky is central to Toyota’s ongoing success.

Kentucky remains a powerful force in auto manufacturing, and we will do everything possible to maintain and strengthen Kentucky’s position as one of the top states for the auto industry.”

This move comes on the heels of Toyota’s recent exit from Australia after labor disputes and after closing it’s last union plant in the United States.  It is notable that all of the jobs are being relocated to “Right to Work” states (Texas and Michigan) from non right to work states (Kentucky, New York, and California).

IS IT TRUE Part 2: Type of Opinions Issued by Auditors

13

skeletons in the closet

IS IT TRUE the City County Observer has located an easy to understand definition of what the 4 kinds of opinions that audit teams issue at the conclusion of the audit process?…these things are as self explanatory as they can be and we will let this stand on it’s own as we await the “official” release of the City of Evansville and the Water and Sewer Utility audits for 2012?

Unqualified Opinion
Often called a clean opinion, an unqualified opinion is an audit report that is issued when an auditor determines that each of the financial records provided by the small business is free of any misrepresentations. In addition, an unqualified opinion indicates that the financial records have been maintained in accordance with the standards known as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This is the best type of report a business can receive.

Typically, an unqualified report consists of a title that includes the word “independent.” This is done to illustrate that it was prepared by an unbiased third party. The title is followed by the main body. Made up of three paragraphs, the main body highlights the responsibilities of the auditor, the purpose of the audit and the auditor’s findings. The auditor signs and dates the document, including his address.

Qualified Opinion
In situations when a company’s financial records have not been maintained in accordance with GAAP but no misrepresentations are identified, an auditor will issue a qualified opinion. The writing of a qualified opinion is extremely similar to that of an unqualified opinion. A qualified opinion, however, will include an additional paragraph that highlights the reason why the audit report is not unqualified.

Adverse Opinion
The worst type of financial report that can be issued to a business is an adverse opinion. This indicates that the firm’s financial records do not conform to GAAP. In addition, the financial records provided by the business have been grossly misrepresented. Although this may occur by error, it is often an indication of fraud. When this type of report is issued, a company must correct its financial statement and have it re-audited, as investors, lenders and other requesting parties will generally not accept it.

Disclaimer of Opinion
On some occasions, an auditor is unable to complete an accurate audit report. This may occur for a variety of reasons, such as an absence of appropriate financial records. When this happens, the auditor issues a disclaimer of opinion, stating that an opinion of the firm’s financial status could not be determined.
