“LEFT JAB AND RIGHT JAB”

“Right Jab And Left Jab” was created because we have two commenters that post on a daily basis either in our “IS IT TRUE” or “Readers Forum” columns concerning National or International issues.
Joe Biden and Ronald Reagan’s comments are mostly about issues of national interest.  The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give Mr. Biden and Mr. Reagan exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “Left Jab” is a liberal view and the “Right Jab is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments of the two gentlemen is free to do so.

Meet Shelly, a yellow bellied slider turtle! She and her three friends were recently surrendered to the VHS. Since they are a non-native species in southern Indiana, they cannot be released to the wild and must be indoor pets. They will need tanks at least 4 feet long (per turtle). While they are pretty interesting, they won’t be a low-maintenance or cheap pet, so adopters will need to do a little reading before committing to these reptiles. Each turtle’s adoption fee is $10. The Board of School Trustees of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will meet in executive session at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019, in the John H. Schroeder Conference Centre at the EVSC Administration Building, 951 Walnut, IN 47713, Evansville, IN. The session will be conducted according to Senate Enrolled Act 313, Section 1, I.C. 5-14-1.5-6.1, as amended. The purpose of the meeting is for discussion of one or more of the following: collective bargaining, (2)(A); initiation of litigation or litigation that is either pending or has been threatened specifically in writing, (2)(B); purchase or lease of property, (2)(D); for discussion of the assessment, design, and implementation of school safety and security measures, plans, and systems (3); and job performance evaluation of individual employees, (9); to train school board members with an outside consultant about the performance of the role of the members as public officials (11).

Senator Braun’s Weekly Update | Mexico Tariffs, USMCA, Remembering Hoosiers at D-Day

This week, Senator Braun provided a Main Street entrepreneur’s take on President Trump’s proposed tariffs with Mexico, urged Congress to put partisanship aside and approve the USMCA for Hoosier workers and farmers, made the case for the USDA to move research facilities to Indiana, and commemorated Hoosier veterans on the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Senator Braun joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business  to discuss President Trump’s proposed tariffs on Mexico, Hoosier workers and farmers who need Congress to approve the USMCA, and if he’s actually enjoying his move from business to the dysfunction of Washington.

“I’m concerned if tariffs get put in place because the USMCA – that masterful agreement that is ready to go through - might be put it in peril. President Trump has done a great job negotiating with the Chinese, Canadians, and Mexicans, and I think here he needed to make a statement that they’re not helping out on border security and I’m hoping the tariffs don’t need to be used.”

Senator Braun penned an op-ed for The Daily Caller urging Democrats in Congress to put their partisan feud with President Trump aside and approve the much-needed USMCA trade deal for Hoosier workers and farmers.

“House Democrats have spent decades fundraising against NAFTA, but now that they have an opportunity to replace it with a better agreement — one that includes a minimum wage for Mexican auto workers and provisions to protect American jobs from unfairly traded Chinese products — they refuse to debate it on the floor of the House.”

Senator Braun and Congressman Jim Baird penned an op-ed for the Lafayette Journal & Courier encouraging the USDA to select Indiana as new location for a research facility out of the three finalists.

“As we come to a final decision about where the USDA’s Economic Research Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture departments should relocate, USDA should consider a location that has access to America’s best research institutions so that they can draw on pre-existing expertise, as well as a location that facilitates a lower cost-of-living than in Washington, saving American taxpayers money in salaries and operating costs.

Senator Braun spoke to Abigail Robertson of Christian Broadcast Network to discuss President Trump’s Mexico tariffs and the state of the debate within the GOP.

This week, the entire Indiana Congressional Delegation introduced a bill to rename the Indianapolis Post Office after the late Senator Richard Lugar.

“Senator Richard Lugar is a towering figure in Hoosier history and one of the greatest statesmen ever to serve in the U.S. Senate: it’s only fitting for us to rename the Indianapolis Post Office after him.”

Obituary for Hannah Louise West

Hannah Louise West, 16, of Evansville passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at Riley Children’s Hospital. She was born July 10, 2002 in Evansville to Melissa Windell and Frank West.
Hannah is now singing, dancing, walking, and running with nothing holding her back. “Fly free our beautiful butterfly, fly free”!
Hannah is survived by her parents; brothers, Cody Windell and Joe West; grandparents, Rebecca and Morris Windell; and great grandmother, Regina Martin.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Buelah Mae West; great grandfather, Paul Martin; and great grandmother, Helen “Sug” Windell.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 2 – 8 pm at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the funeral home with Major Joann Hixenbaugh officiating.
Hannah was surrounded by her family when she walked through the gates of Heaven to take her place as the most beautiful angel. Her smile was so bright that it could light up the darkest of rooms. You couldn’t help but fall in love with her fun, sassy, spunky personality. No matter the obstacles and hurdles that were put in front of her,
she always met them head on and with that beautiful smile. Hannah loved to share her love for her collection of Funko Pops with anyone who wanted to see it. Her love for Mickey Mouse, doing crafts, big sparkly bows, music, watching cooking videos, and shopping at Walmart will forever be remembered.
The family would like to thank the critical care nurses, respiratory therapist, child life specialists, and doctors at Riley’s Hospital for Children. Thank you for loving and taking amazing care of our Hannah in the best and worst of times, you will forever be our extended family. To the Granted board and members, thank you for loving Hannah and our family so much and always being there for us all.

William Edward Edmondson, 76, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital.
The dash in his life was from Monday, March 1st 1943 – Wednesday, June 5th, 2019. Bill was born in Wilson, N.C. to Ira and Nellie (Nicholson) Edmondson. Bill was a veteran of the USMC, stationed at camp Lejuene, N.C. during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he became a semi driver for Aramark Uniform Service. His CB handle was “purple worm”. He retired from Aramark in 2003 after 35 years of service.
William enjoyed old country music, car racing, fishing, his camp in Eddyville, KY, traveling, and mimosa trees and hummingbirds. Bill married his wife, Kaye (Swedenburg), on December 25, 1965. They had 3 children; William C. (Chuck), Lori A., and Scott A.
Bill is preceded in death by his son, William C., 1995, his parents, and a brother Dallas.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of 53 years; mother-in-law, Evelyn E. Swedenburg; daughter, Lori Meyer (Kenny), and their daughter, Kaylee Meyer (Cheeks); son, Scotty (Melissa), and their children Cade, Aly, and Avery; granddaughter, Tifini Edmondson and her children Zelda, Zagun, and Wesson; brother, Ira G. (Garnet); sister-in-law, Helen; nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Private services officiated by Pastor Clint Walker, were held at Bill’s request at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel. Burial was at Locust Hill Cemetery.

Nancy Jo Decker, 80, of Boonville, Indiana passed away on June 6, 2019, surrounded by her family at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville IN.

Nancy was born on October 19, 1938, in Evansville, IN to the late Carl and Mae Lutz. She graduated from Boonville High School in 1957. Nancy was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother (Nanny.) Nancy love the Lord, enjoyed playing the piano, her cat Scardy and volunteering at Studio Bee.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Carl Lutz Jr. and her husband Raymond Decker.

Nancy is survived by her three sons, Jim (Ginger), Tim (Jennifer), Bill (Carolyn) Tennyson all of Boonville; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville with Reverend Ron Lee officiating. Final resting place will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, IN. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M.

Valada J. Raber

Valada J. Raber, 85, of Dale, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Willowdale Village in Dale, Indiana. She was born at home on February 13, 1934 to the late Hobert and Laura (Miller) Stone of Dale, Indiana.
Valada held a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Oakland City College, with additional certifications in English and Latin. Thereafter, she earned a Master’s degree in Education from Indiana University. Valada married her husband of 56 years, Edward M. Raber, in 1955. She retired in 1997 after teaching for 41 years. For 35 of those years, Valada taught music at Rockport Elementary School in Rockport, Indiana.
As a member of Selvin United Methodist Church in Selvin, Indiana, Valada served as a Sunday School teacher and coordinated / led many activities for the community. Furthermore, she shared her musical talent as the church pianist for more than fifty years.
Valada was the organist / pianist for countless weddings and funerals and also gave piano lessons to generations of individuals in Spencer County and Warrick County. In the 1960s, she had her own Saturday morning radio program at WBNL in Boonville, Indiana. Valada’s other interests included reading, traveling, and gardening (especially tending to her flowers).
Valada was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 2011.
She is survived by her three children: daughters, Darla R. Grossman, M.D. (Harold); Valarie Raber Reed (Rick); son, Gene E. Raber (Jennifer); a sister, Macy L. Schmitt; four grandchildren: Ryan Grossman, Leila Grossman, Katherine Reed, and Jackson Raber; and two great-grandchildren: Hannah Grossman and Bethany Grossman.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, Indiana. On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, visitation will be held at the Selvin United Methodist Church from 10:00 – 11:00 am, with the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Selvin Cemetery.
