Butler, Kaminski lead USI men in outdoor-opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Sophomore jumper James Butler (Evansville, Indiana) and senior thrower Josh Kaminski (Lafayette, Indiana) posted top-five finishes Friday to lead University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field to a 10th-place finish in its outdoor season-opener Friday at the Jim Vargo Invitational.
 
Butler was third in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 4.75 inches, while Kaminski was fourth in the shot put with a heave of 43’07.00″.
 
The duo combined for 11 of the Screaming Eagles’ 18 team points Friday. The Eagles also got scoring contributions from freshmen Tyler Zimmerman (Evansville, Indiana) and Cole Hess (Cannelton, Indiana) as well as junior Lee Moore Jr. (Matteson, Illinois).
 
Zimmerman and Hess were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 800 meters, while Moore was seventh in the long jump.
 
USI returns to action March 31-April 1 when it competes at the WashU Invitational in St. Louis as well as the Joey Haines Invite in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
