Wild Things’ quick start drops Otters

Washington, PA. – The Evansville Otters recorded 12 hits but fell into an early hole and dropped a series opener 10-4 to the Washington Wild Things on Friday night at Wild Things Stadium.

Dakota Phillips hit a home run for a third straight night and led the Otters with two hits and two RBIs.

Washington jumped out to a big lead with three runs in the first inning. Two singles followed by a sacrifice fly brought home the first run of the ballgame. A two-run homer followed to cap the big inning.

Phillips hit his solo blast in the second inning before the Wild Things responded in the third inning, benefiting from four walks to score two runs and take a 5-1 lead.

Washington extended the lead with a walk followed by a double and a two-out single scoring two more in the fifth inning.

A three-run homer in the sixth inning capped the scoring for the Wild Things.

The Wild Things’ lefty starter Kobe Foster twirled seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and earned the win.

The Otters plated three runs in the eighth off the Wild Things’ bullpen. George Callil started the inning with a single as part of a two-hit day.

Noah Myers added a single in the inning for a two-hit performance. Jeffrey Baez and Phillips both drove in runs on base hits.

Evansville starter Zach Smith suffered the loss, allowing seven runs over five innings pitched.

The Otters mounted double digit hits for the third straight day. Rookie Austin Bost recorded a two-hit day including a double.
