EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Soccer opened the 2021 campaign with a 2-0 shutout of Trevecca Nazarene University Thursday afternoon at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles start the season 1-0-0, while Trevecca goes to 0-1-0.

The Eagles took the initial 1-0 lead in the opening half when freshman forward/midfielder Brenna Frommelt found the back of the Trevecca goal at 37:52. Frommelt sent the ball off the far post and into the goal after taking the ball away from a Trevecca defender for the unassisted tally.

The 1-0 lead would stand up through the halftime and until the Eagles increased the lead to 2-0 at 57:56. Sophomore midfielder Jill DiTusa found the back of the goal off a pass from freshman midfielder/forward Lily Dahl. Senior defender Madeline Weston started the play by driving deep into the Trevecca end of the field and forced a scramble in front of the Trojan goal.

USI sophomore goalkeeper Emma Sabath picked up her first win and shutout as an Eagle between the posts. Sabath shut down the Trojans defensively, facing a total of six shots and making three saves.

USI remains at home this weekend and is scheduled to host Walsh University Sunday at noon. The Cavaliers open their season with a 3-1 loss to Northwood University today at home.

The Eagles are tied with the Cavaliers in the all-time series that began in 2018, 1-1-0. USI won the second meeting, 4-0, on the road in 2019.
