USI downs Marian 5-2 Friday evening

University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team defeated Marian University, 5-2 Friday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center.

The Screaming Eagles (1-2) won two out of the three doubles matches before grabbing four out of the six singles matches. This was the first victory of the season for USI for the 2019-20 campaign.

The pairs of Seniors Lauren Hambrock and Alex Jamison as well as Junior Lauryn Thompson and Freshman Chloe McIsaac made quick work of their opponents with scores of 6-1 and 6-0, respectively.

After dropping the No. 6 and No. 3 singles matches, McIsaac battled hard to get a crucial point for the Eagles, ultimately the winning line as 0-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Jamison kept the momentum going with a No. 2 singles victory of her own in 6-4, 6-4 fashion.

Hambrock in the No. 1 singles, eventually prevailed in a tiebreaker capping of her victory and clinching the team win for USI with a 6-4, 7-6 tally.

Up Next: The Eagles will stay put at the Evansville Tennis Center when they play host the Murray State Racers Friday with doubles action starting at 3:45 P.M.
