Purple Aces Close Out MVC Swimming & Diving Championships

The University of Evansville women’s swimming and diving team finishes the season at the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

As a team the Purple Aces finished in sixth place with 272 team points, marking the best finish since 2017.

On the 3-meter diving board, Fae Keighley took sixth place with a 232.85 score, followed by Natalie Gerard with a 218.25 sixth place finish. Maggie Franz (226.80) and Sarah Kempf (213.85) took 10th and 14th respectively in the event.

Sarah Jahns earned seventh place in the 1650-yard freestyle, posting a 17:11.24 time, while Ashton Adams took 12th in 17:29.31.

Sage Moore captured seventh place in the 200-yard breaststroke at a 2:19.62 time. Alaina Sylvester posted a 2:25.22 time, while Allison McDonald finished in 2:26.67 in the event.

Breaking the school record, Jahns added a ninth place 2:01.31 finish in the 200-yard backstroke, followed by Kasey O’Rourke finishing 18th in 2:05.63.

Maya Cunningham came in 13th place in the 200-yard butterfly, marking a 2:07.08. Kara Steward finished the event in 15th place at 2:09.62, while Nicolette Wicks earned 21st at 2:15.18.

Jessie Steele (52.49), Kristy Kupfer (52.99), Emma Hennessy (53.00) and Sonsoles Aguayo (53.14) all competed in the 100-yard freestyle.

Finishing out the championship, the Aces earned seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing the race, teamed by Kara Steward, Nicolette Wickes, Alaina Sylvester and Aston Adams, in 3:31.77.

Sonsoles Aguayo, Natalie Gerard, Sarah Jahns, Fae Keighly, Sarah Kempf and Sage More all earned MVC all-conference honorable mention accolades.
