IS IT TRUE? November 6, 2011

IS IT TRUE that the management of the Evansville Icemen has just exhibited and orchestrated what is an act of marketing genius that could have never ever even been understood inside the walls of government?…that during the last several months the Icemen put together a formidable team that looks as though it will be capable of competing for a championship in its first year at Ford Center?…that took money and commitment to excellence?…that Evansville as a city is fairly unsophisticated in its appreciation of the sport of hockey but is famous for its long running love affair with the words FREE and DISCOUNT?…that the Icemen organization has been lighting the phones out making deals that resulted in nearly anyone who knows a small business owner being offered a FREE TICKET to the inaugural game last night?…that the result was an announced crowd of nearly 9,000 (tickets printed but not necessarily used), a visual estimate of the actual crowd of 6,500, and most importantly a WIN BY THE ICEMEN over a traditionally strong opponent?

IS IT TRUE that this is the way to launch a product people?…that the actual crowd was 300% higher than any crowd to see a hockey game in Evansville before and that the experience was positive all around?…that many of those people who attended their first game and many others who missed out will be back for more?…that even street peddlers know the marketing value of a free sample and this first hockey game was masterful marketing by Ron Geary and his team?…that with Butler and IU both having down years that the University of Evansville Aces may just be heading for a great year that is launched with wins over a traditional power and a two time national finalist?…that it looks like the stars are aligning for the first year of the Ford Center?

IS IT TRUE that last night was the first test of the traffic patterns and the parking situation that has been causing loads of fear and paranoia for years?…that we have yet to hear a complaint about parking or traffic at last night’s game?…that the key once again to keeping the parking angst in check is a great experience and a winning team?…that a nine block walk to that hard earned parking place is a breeze if one is talking about how great the game was, how great the next game will be, and how ones favorite player performed?…that as our teams go so shall go the financial success of the Ford Center that is off to a good start?…that the first big concert experience will be on Wednesday night when Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band comes to town?…that good tickets are still available so make the call, spend the $70 and come on down and enjoy the concert?

IS IT TRUE that this writers favorite college football teams being the Stanford Cardinal and the University of Louisville Cardinals both extended winning streaks yesterday?…that Stanford has the longest winning streak in the nation and that UL has the most unexpected winning streak in the nation?…that Stanford will be tested next week by the Oregon Ducks whose mascot really is Donald Duck?…that Disney after it became corporate tried to sue the University of Oregon over the use of the Donald?…that OU produced a hand written letter from Walt Disney himself granting them the never expiring authority to use the image of Donald Duck as their team mascot?…that Walt Disney did the right thing and those lawyers tried to pull a fast one?

IS IT TRUE that there will be another IS IT TRUE today that is focused on local politics but that we did not want to foul up this good news with politics and other things suffering because of politics?

RE: Rick Davis for Mayor

Dear Sirs:

In May, democracy worked in Evansville. Evansville Democrats selected Rick Davis as our party’s candidate for mayor, Alberta Matlock as our party’s candidate for city clerk, and Dan Adams, Conor O’Daniel, Jonathan Weaver, Missy Mosby, Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley, Connie Robinson, John Friend and Al Lindsey as our party’s candidates for city council. I trust our public election process. I trust and believe that Evansville Democrats selected the very best representatives of our party to go forward and serve the citizens of Evansville. Also, all of Southwestern Indiana depends upon and enjoys all that Evansville has to offer. These fine citizens have offered themselves up for one of America’s highest callings–public service. I am proud to support the Democrat Team for Evansville’s future.

Let me state, before your bloggers can declare, I do not live in Evansville. I am from Warrick County. I do however, represent the Democratic Party as the 8th Congressional District Democratic Party Chair. Evansville is a valued part of the 8th District.

Rick Davis and the entire Democratic Party’s slate of candidates for next Tuesday’s election are proven, capable and experienced candidates. I encourage citizens of Evansville and particularly all Evansville Democrats to go to the polls and vote for Rick Davis for mayor, Alberta Matlock for city clerk, and Dan Adams, Conor O’Daniel, Jonathan Weaver, Missy Mosby, Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley, Connie Robinson, John Friend and Al Lindsey for city council.

Respectfully,

Anthony Long
Chair, 8th District

Today is Bank Transfer Day: Don’t Like FEES? Group Urges Moving Accounts

0

A movement inspired by the disgust over the $5 debit card fees piloted by the Bank of America and a handful of other banks is calling upon people who are fed up with the widespread increases in fees to close their accounts in “big” banks and move them to local credit unions that do not typically fee people to death.

ABC reported yesterday as profiled in the video on this link that over 1 Million accounts have been moved during the last month. The City County Observer was the first to expose the Bank of America fees locally along with a listing of other banks piloting the practice including Regions Bank that has an Evansville presence.

Bank Transfer Day has established a Facebook page to assist people in choosing a new bank at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=281139538577206

ABC’s report is on the following link:

Readers Choices to be “The Infinity Mole”

1

When the City County Observer publishes the Mole Nation and Mole #3’s predictions for the upcoming elections there will be another contestant in the contest to see who is the best picker. In addition to the choices of the Moles there will be “The Infinity Mole” that will be a summary of the vote compilations from our online polls starting with the poll currently up for at large City Council.

Throughout the day today we will be rotating polls and accumulating votes. Polls will not be removed or reported without at least 101 votes are cast. Why 101, because it is an odd number and you have to draw the line somewhere. Enjoy the polls and lets see if 101 minds are really better than 1.

The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE? November 5, 2011

IS IT TRUE that after we posted the afternoon edition of IS IT TRUE yesterday disclosing that borderline threatening messages were sent from the Civic Center to the City County Observer that exactly THREE additional comments came from that IP address for the rest of the day?…that prior to posting regarding that situation people with aliases posting from the Civic Center were posting at a rate of about a post per 10 minutes?…that we were asked later why we did not take this to the sheriff yesterday?…that the answer is because yesterday’s threat was not personal and not explicit?…that there have been other threats in the past that were personal, explicit, with times and places included?…that such threats will always be taken seriously and turned over to law enforcement but that generic threats against the CCO in while annoying are about 99.9% probable to just be someone that we profiled for malfeasance that hopes to shut us up?

IS IT TRUE that Mole #42 tells us that the Indiana 8th District Democrat Central Committee chaired by S. Anthony Long has publically come out in support of all of the Democrat candidates in the City of Evansville elections?…that Mr. Long as the 8th Federal Congressional District chair is a higher ranking official than the helter skelter band that supposedly manages the Vanderburgh County Democrat Central Committee?…that Democrats and Republicans alike continue to look upon the antics of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Central Committee with amusement and disbelief?…that the pantomime that seems to never end started with BoothGate, and included FloatGate, EndorseGate, The Manifesto of The 23, ChickenGate, CentreGate, False ReportGate, and ScreenScraperPictureThiefGate?…that we are sure that the final curtain is nowhere close to falling and that there are at least three more Gates to be discovered before outside forces come in to clean out the sandbox?…that we thought about calling the failure to pay the bills BillGates but decided not to do that to the founder of MicroSoft?

IS IT TRUE that one of the largest bankruptcies in the history of the United States happened this week and that it was not as publicized as some were back in 2008?…that MF Global whose chairman and CEO Jon Corzine pulled some of the similar old tricks that started the financial meltdown and melted down?…that Mr. Corzine was the Governor of New Jersey before losing to Governor Chris Christy and is somewhat credited with the financial mess that the State of New Jersey has had to deal with?…that President Barack Obama made a special flight aboard AIR FORCE ONE to New Jersey to make a couple of pleas and speeches in an attempt to persuade the people of New Jersey to re-elect then Governor Corzine?…that if the Occupy Wall Street crew wants to be timely in their chants and marches that MF Global and Mr. Corzine would make a better object for their affections than the Port of Oakland or just some generic bank or any stuffed suit strolling down Wall Street?

IS IT TRUE that locally a well known purveyor of high tech ice cream has also sought bankruptcy protection after a 4 year fight with their bank?…that the parent company of Dippin Dot’s that is headquartered in Paducah, KY filed for reorganization protection after Regions Bank started the foreclosure proceedings?…that Regions was one of the banks profiled for being an early adopter of the DEBIT CARD FEES that has to date inspired over 1 Million customers to close their accounts at big banks and move their business to credit unions?…that the City County Observer applauds capitalism and the choices that it offers?…that as long as there is healthy competition in every basic need that usury tactics will be struck down by the market?…that if there was one monopoly bank that were regulated as utilities are that we would all be paying much more in FEES because the IBRC (fictional Indiana Bank Regulatory Commission) would not have the common sense to see through the smokescreens presented by THE BANK?

IS IT TRUE that whatever “The Trend” is sounds interesting but must have 3 year olds designing their ads?…that if they want people to watch that a time, place, channel, and duration may just get butts in seats or viewers in front of a TV set?…that it was a nice looking ad with an interesting topic (Vectren Rates) but there was no information with respect to how one could attend or watch?…that we are unfortunately not surprised?

Letter to Editor from E. Wayne Parke Regarding Republican Support

47

Letter To Editor

This letter is in response to articles appearing in the CCO regarding the recent negative mailer that was sent out by the Democrats to the 5th Ward voters stating Republicans do not support Brent Grafton in the 2011 Election. This is not correct.

I fully support all our Republican candidates seeking office in the 2011 City Election. This includes Brent Grafton who is running for the 5th Ward City Council position. Brent has a strong business and public background and will do a great job representing the citizens in the 5th Ward.
.
After having 35 straight years with the Democrats having a majority control of City Council, it is time to support Republicans for the City Council seats.

I encourage all City registered voters to vote Tuesday November 8 at any one of the 15 Vote Centers if you have not already voted.

Wayne Parke
Chairman Vanderburgh County Republican Party.
