UE’s Phil Plisky a Featured Presenter at Major League Soccer Medical Symposium

0

Phil Plisky, assistant professor of physical therapy at the University of Evansville, will be a featured presenter at the Major League Soccer Medical Symposium, a professional educational event focused on treatment and prevention of soccer-related injuries.

The symposium, sponsored by the Hospital for Special Surgery Office of Continuing Medical Education and Major League Soccer, will take place Saturday, January 7 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In his presentation, titled “Screening Athletes for Injury Potential: Identifying the At-Risk Player,” Plisky will speak to some of the nation’s leading sports medicine professionals — including the medical personnel of Major League Soccer teams — about injury prevention research and practical implementation of injury prevention strategies.

“Each year we make progress in how sports injuries are treated in professional athletes,” said Riley J. Williams, III, M.D., symposium director and orthopedic surgeon in the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. “These presentations are designed to further educate team physicians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists who work with high school, collegiate, and professional soccer players on prevention, but also on how to help them heal these injuries most effectively when they do occur.”

Plisky is the developer of the Y Balance Test, a research-based screening tool that analyzes a person’s movement patterns to detect his or her risk of injury. Professional sports teams such as the Columbus Crew, Indianapolis Colts, and Atlanta Falcons have utilized the test, as have numerous collegiate athletic programs and the U.S. military.

In 2010, Plisky — along with associate professor of physical therapy Kyle Kiesel and researchers at U.S. Army-Baylor University — received two research grants worth over $1.5 million to screen Army soldiers for their injury risk, then offer education and exercises to reduce that risk.

Plisky received his Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Evansville and his Doctor of Science degree in orthopedic physical therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Plisky is also a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist.

In addition to serving as a member of UE’s physical therapy faculty, Plisky is actively engaged in patient care at ProRehab, PC in Evansville and is the residency program director for the ProRehab and University of Evansville Sports Residency Program.

Evansville, IN – Without question, Pink Floyd remains one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Their record-breaking status is legendary. As the follow up to DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, WISH YOU WERE HERE explores the idea of absence, takes a cynical view of the music business and waxes poetically on the personal state of former band mate Syd Barrett. The album was produced by Alan Parsons and included musical guests Roy Harper and Stephane Grappelli. Richard Wright and David Gilmour have both stated that WISH YOU WERE HERE was their favorite Pink Floyd album. Now, get ready for THE PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE as they present WISH YOU WERE HERE live in its entirety! With a spectacular light & video show, full quadraphonic sound and six outstanding musicians dedicated to bringing you the most authentic Floyd experience possible, it’s “a must-see for any Pink Floyd enthusiast!” (C-News, Northampton, MA)

Today, years since their last live performance, Pink Floyd’s appeal continues and spans the generations. Their shows were described as theatrical with mind-blowing lights and unsurpassed sound. The show is not only onstage…it engulfs the audience! In keeping with this tradition, THE PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE is a full-on sensory assault – interpretive videos, plane crashes, flying pig, helicopter – it’s all there, LIVE! This is the show for the ultimate Floyd Fan, and it gets closer to the true Pink Floyd concert experience every year!
In addition to WISH YOU WERE HERE, all of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits are performed live including such favorites as “Pigs”, “Money,” “Time,” “Comfortably Numb,” “Run Like Hell” and many rarities not often heard live!
Some Floyd Facts: More than 200-million albums have been sold since 1967. Four Grammy nominations in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. They were one of the first bands to use pyrotechnics, video, and light shows in their stage acts. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. ”Dark Side of the Moon” broke all chart records when it stayed on the Billboard Top 200 Album charts for 741 weeks. It stayed there from 1973 to 1988. Nearly 1,000,000 Pink Floyd catalog albums are sold each year worldwide.

The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE? January 8, 2012

IS IT TRUE that the first request that we have today is with respect to some of the postings on the comment boards on the City County Observer?…that a small number of the postings have recently addressed Councilwoman Missy Mosby in a personal way?…that the CCO would like to request that before making a post that is personally denigrating about anyone that you think twice about whether or not such comments are truly in the best interest of furthering a discussion that is about furthering good public policy?…that Councilwoman Mosby is the elected representative to the Evansville City Council from the 2nd Ward and was elected for her second term by a substantial majority?…that many of us while not agreeing with every vote that she casts consider her to be a friend and recognize that her votes often really do reflect the will of her constituents and herself?…that the beauty of a republic form of government is the duty of our elected officials like Missy to cast votes as they think is right for the City of Evansville?…that we shall not always agree but Councilwoman Mosby is truly a person who for better or for worse really seems to love the City of Evansville and works very hard as a Councilwoman to do her best to make this place better?…that where she works in an honest effort to make a living should not be fodder for denigrating posts?…that she deserves respect for staying off the dole and doing what she can find to provide for herself in this bad economy as opposed to many who milk the system?…that the CCO wishes our friend Missy Godspeed in her personal goals and good judgment as a Councilwoman?

IS IT TRUE that in our recent reader’s poll about 60% of the respondents believe that the conditions are right for the Winnecke Administration to put the political game playing of the past behind and really make some positive things happen?…that Mayor Winnecke made a great gesture yesterday by putting together a cast of over 100 good citizens to make a dent in the litter problem on Main Street from the Ohio River to Garvin Park?…that the volume of garbage retrieved and disposed of what enough to be embarrassing as it should be but for now it is gone and we call upon the people of Evansville and especially the merchants along the corridor that was just cleaned to keep it clean?…that 5 minutes a day from each merchant and resident along that corridor will be enough to keep that street clean?…that at this rate that sometime in the next four years Evansville can really put an end to the litter problem?…that we also call upon the people of Evansville to just stop littering?…that it is time to stop this nonsense?

IS IT TRUE that by a 3 to 1 majority that our readers think that it should be above the Office of the Mayor to cuss out members of the Evansville City Council?…that does mean that 25% of our readers voted that a Council member may need a good cussing on occasion?…that while in our most emotional moments we can relate to wanting to cuss a Council member or five on occasion that we think making cartoons and calling them out for block voting or poor judgment is a more effective way to effect positive change?

IS IT TRUE that the last recent poll regarding the City of Evansville and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission adopting a minimal procedure that can be done in house to VET suppliers and projects should be done by a 25 to 1 majority?…that simple VETTING really is simple and that with the number of banks in Evansville that have goodwill toward the City that a preliminary VETTING procedure should and will be put into place in the very near future AND that this will be public information that all will have access to?

At the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center, Buschon will meet with students enrolled in health sciences courses and discuss the future of health care and talk about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the new health care bill that was signed into law in 2010, and the impact the bill will have on careers in the health care field.

“Right To Work” Field Hearing Scheduled For Sunday

10

Indiana House Democrats will conduct a field hearing in Evansville on Sunday, January 8th to allow area residents to make their feelings known on the proposed “Right to Work” legislation currently before the Indiana General Assembly.

The hearing will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the CK Newsome Center, 100 E. Walnut St., Evansville.

The hearing will be led by State Reps. Gail Riecken (D-Evansville) and Kreg Battles (D-Vincennes).

“To date, there has been no effort to give the people of Indiana a chance to speak out on this radical idea that will cost us jobs, reduce worker pay, and make workplaces unsafe,” Riecken said. “This hearing will allow the people who will be most affected by the idea to discuss its impact upon them.”

For more information, contact Rep. Riecken at 812-568-9505.

The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE? January 7, 2012

IS IT TRUE that sometimes in a trip driving across the United States that there are special and unexpected treats that happen if you listen to local radio and stop to participate?…that yesterday this writer had one of those things happen?…that yesterday was the 100th anniversary of statehood for the State of New Mexico and celebrations were going on at nearly every public place and bar in the state?…that for the most part the celebrations were all about being glad to be included in the union and the attitude was patriotic?…that the particular sports bar that this guy decided to watch the Cotton Bowl in had a very large faction of people who were not exactly expressing their pleasure with the centennial celebration?…that unknowingly the Avalon stopped for dinner and a ball game at a sports bar in which this writer was the only person in the place that was not a member of the Navajo Nation?…that the celebration if one might call it that was about Navajo culture with maps of their nation prior to 1912 and that some were even speaking in Navajo?…that this was a very good experience and that I met a new friend named Sammie C who is the owner of Sammie C’s in Gallup, New Mexico?

IS IT TRUE the Vanderburgh County Commissioners, County Council and the Evansville City Council shall begin the New Year with new members and officers to lead us through challenging financial times? …that the CCO staff and the citizens of this fine community not only wish but pray that our elected officials shall make honest, well inform decisions for the betterment of the community they serve? …we sincerely wish soon to be elected President of County Commission, Marsha Abell and President of the Evansville City Council, Connie Robinson only the best this coming year?

IS IT TRUE that New Mexico is a smokefree state and that includes a sports bar frequented by the Navajo?…that Indiana made the national news yesterday for the introduction of a statewide smoking ban bill and that the wording of the article made us seem like the captain and crew of the Titanic?…that Indiana also is making national news for the advancement of the Right to Work bill through the state senate?…that the eyes of the nation are upon Indiana this year for the same reasons that they were last year?

IS IT TRUE that cleanliness matters to the image of a community and the economic prosperity as well?…that thus far the states of Oklahoma and New Mexico and much of Texas have been for the most part LITTER FREE which is noticeably different than the streets of Evansville?…that the real exception for yesterday was the City of Amarillo, Texas which made me feel at home yet a bit dirty since litter was blowing in the streets like snow?…that I had planned to stop for lunch in Amarillo but changed my plans because of the unkempt look of the place?…that I opted instead to drive another hour to Tucumcari, NM where it was not only clean but there was a FREE classic car museum that I was treated to?…that image matters, that Evansville needs some improvement in that area, and that Mayor Winnecke is leading his first official weekend of cleaning this morning so get out and do your part people?
