Gallup/Rasmussen Average Presidential Poll for August 15, 2012

The two tracking polls with the best results for predicting presidential contests now have three days of data after the selection of Paul Ryan as the running mate for Mitt Romney in their calculation and and both polls are indicating that the Romney/Ryan ticket is opening a lead on Obama/Biden nationally. The Rasmussen Tracking poll today shows Romney with a 47% – 43% lead over President Obama while Gallup’s Tracking poll shows Romney maintaining a lead of 47% – 45%.

The average of these two polls is now showing the Romney/Ryan campaign with 47% and the Obama/Biden at 44.0%.

The average approval rate for President Obama is now negative 4.5% meaning that 4.5% more of those polled disapprove of the Presidents job performance than approve of it. The average approval rating for the President was 46.0% and the average disapproval was 50.5%.

Electoral college polls all still show President Obama with a lead over Romney on the basis of having strong leads in the big city dominated states of California, New York, and Illinois. The current safe electoral counts for President Obama and Mitt Romney are 201 and 181 respectively with 156 electors considered to be either toss ups or within the margin of error.

IS IT TRUE the assertion that clawback provisions placed in a contract between the City of Evansville and companies that are offered incentives will put us at a competitive disadvantage is a hopelessly flawed argument?…it sort of redefines the word incentive to have no exchange of obligations and to have all one sided word of mouth deals made with the taxpayer’s money?…we are sure that companies that are complete mercenaries that want to arrange incentive auctions to shake down cities are just fine with no accountability in this demented race to the bottom?…the argument against accountability is defeated by the fact that the State of Indiana actually has accountability and still wins plenty of attraction projects?…that intentionally failing to take contractual actions that establish accountability is either cowardly, lazy, or both?…it also makes this place look dumb and desperate?…we hope the Evansville City Council takes notice of this unacceptable way of doing business and changes their ways?…that this gives us a hint at why there is no capability to VET anything within local government as VETTING is a moot activity if accountability is abandoned?

IS IT TRUE the Fraternal Order of Police are hosting a County Candidates night tonight at 6 PM at 801 Court Street?…the notice of this meeting went out to some important political leaders via email at 10:40 last night when most everyone is asleep?…if there is a sparse showing of candidates to this event that the FOP will have no one but themselves to blame because less than 24 hours notices is not even a courtesy notice?…we hope that this late notice was across the board as opposed to the candidates that the organizers do not support?

IS IT TRUE that the Ellis Park Race Track in Henderson, Ky. shall sometime in September of 2012 have a new partner?…that the New York based Saratoga race track has been highly rumored to be investors in the new gaming machine venture soon to be launched at Ellis Park?…it is also rumored that Saratoga Race Track out of New York may make an offer to outright purchase Ellis Park in the near future?

IS IT TRUE there is a bad habit forming in the 4th Ward in the 600 block of Sweetser Avenue of having multiple gun wielding and shooting incidents in the same week?…summer always seems to be plagued by violence in that part of Evansville but this year is taking the cake?…the EPD seems to be doing a good job of responding to these criminal acts?…the real problem will not be solved by having the EPD on 24/7 patrol in every area that has seen violent acts because there is simply not enough EPD officers to maintain vigil over a large area of Evansville?

IS IT TRUE that a study by Valley Watch has looked into the question of where the Evansville region would rank in terms of air pollutants if it were a state?…the size of the State of Evansville for purposes of the study is a circle with a radius of 62 miles centered in downtown Evansville?…that would roughly just beyond Madisonville, KY to the south, Owensboro to the east, Vincennes to the north, and a couple of counties into Illinois to the west?…that such a small State of Evansville would rank as the 3rd worse polluter in the United States just slightly behind Ohio?…if the circle were opened up to make the State of Evansville equivalent in acreage to Kentucky or Indiana that it would certainly rank 2nd and most likely 1st as the worse place in the country for air pollutants?…you can see the entire data set assembled by Valley Watch at http://valleywatch.net/?

New wallet-sized cards to give police instant details on protective orders

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller and Verizon Wireless launched a statewide Hope Card program today to help law enforcement quickly identify and take action against those who violate protective orders.

Domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking victims often obtain civil protection orders or restraining orders to help shield themselves and their children from any further contact or harm by their abuser. Zoeller said until now a victim had to carry their multi-page court order with them to show police if the perpetrator was in violation.

“Through this new statewide program, law enforcement will be able to use a victim’s wallet-sized Hope Card to obtain an immediate snapshot of the protective order,” Zoeller said. “Ultimately, this will save the victim critical time and allow police to act more quickly against the abuser. Thanks to help from Verizon Wireless, we can better protect Indiana’s vulnerable and give law enforcement a new tool to respond more quickly to protective order violations.”

With the assistance of a $30,000 grant from HopeLine® from Verizon, Indiana is the third state in the nation to launch the Hope Card program and the first state to rely solely on private grants for funding. The Hope Cards will feature victim information and data on the abuser including their photo, sex, race, date of birth, height, weight and identifying marks.

“Hope Cards will ease the burden of victims who are attempting to rebuild their lives,” said Michelle Gilbert, Verizon Wireless public relations manager-Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region. “As we continue to shed light on domestic violence issues, we hope to salvage Hoosier families and help them get the protection they went to court to secure.”

More than 75 victim advocates and other groups who help domestic violence victims across the state have already received training to help qualified applicants obtain the cards.

Zoeller said Hope Cards will be free to those who apply and meet minimum criteria set by the state – which could be as many as 10,000 Hoosiers. Only those under protective orders for a year or longer for domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, will be eligible to participate in the program.

Verizon has been funding innovative programs like this one across the country through its phone recycling program, which gives consumers a way to help prevent domestic violence by donating their no-longer-used wireless devices and accessories.

HopeLine from Verizon turns used phones into support for domestic violence survivors. HopeLine collects phones, batteries and accessories − in any condition from any carrier − that consumers are no longer using. The devices are refurbished, sold or recycled and the proceeds are donated to domestic violence prevention and treatment organizations in the form of cash grants.

Last year, HopeLine from Verizon and the Verizon Foundation provided more than $200,000 in funding for programs across the state that have helped hundreds of families in domestic violence situations. The company also donated to Indiana shelters more than 2.7 million minutes of airtime and phones for use by domestic violence survivors. In 2011, Hoosiers donated 18,478 phones to support and put resources into the hands of survivors.

EFD Combat Challenge Team Sets More Records

Most people spend their weekends relaxing, spending time with their family
or working around the house. For EFD’s Combat Challenge team that would
probably seem boring. Why else would someone strap on 45 lbs. of
tireñghting gear, breath from an air tank and run up 5 flights of stairs
carrying an additional 42 lbs. of tire hose. That’s what a typical weekend is
for George Madison, Adam Brock, Marc Schiele and Joey Jones as they
compete in the Firefighter Combat Challenge. This past weekend “the boys”
went to Lexington Kentucky and competed in 4 categories, medaling in all.

Adam Brock took 1St place in the Open Male Individual event and set an
Indiana state record with a time of 1:30.95 minutes. Adam and teammate
George Madison then won the Tandem Event. Adam and George then added
Marc Schiele to the mix setting another State record and taking a 2nd in the
Individual/Team Event with a 5:15.21. Last but not least Team Captain Joey
Jones joined the trio for the Relay. The fearsome foursome lost in the semi-
finals due to penalties, but placed 3rd overall and broke their own State
record along the way by posting a 1:18.50 in the NCAA-style eliminations.

The Team’s next adventure will probably be the World Championships at
Myrtle Beach this November to compete against the best of the best.

Congratulations to Adam, George, Joey and Marc for a job well done I!

Mosquito Activity Update

Evansville, August 14, 2012 – The Vanderburgh County Health Department is continuing to perform Adult Mosquito Control (Adulticiding).

Adulticiding operations will begin Thursday, August 16th, 2012, weather permitting, in targeted areas of the City of Evansville.

Fogging will begin approximately at 8:00 PM and conclude by 12:00 AM.

Area #1 is bound by Washington Ave., Boeke Rd., Covert Ave., and S. Rotherwood Ave.

Area #2 is bound by Bellemeade Ave., Boeke Rd., Washington Ave., and S. Rotherwood Ave.

A map of the area to be sprayed is included with this release.

If weather conditions prevent spraying on Thursday, August 16th, the Health Department will spray on the next available day.

The Health Department urges you to follow these simple guidelines to reduce your chances of coming into contact with mosquitoes:

¨ When outdoors, especially near dusk and dawn, use insect repellant. Be sure to read and follow the label directions when applying these products.

¨ Make sure screens on doors, windows, and porches are in good repair to prevent mosquitoes from getting inside.

¨ Reduce breeding habitats by emptying buckets, removing discarded tires, and changing the water in wading pools and bird baths once a week.

¨ Keep the grass cut and landscaping trimmed as adult mosquitoes use overgrown areas as safe places to rest.

Evansville, IN – Tuesday, August 14, 2012 Jeffrey A. Embrey, age 25, was convicted in Vanderburgh County Circuit Court of Dealing in Methamphetamine – Class B Felony, Neglect of a Dependent – Class C Felony and Maintaining a Common Nuisance – Class D Felony. Embrey faces 6-20 years for the Class B Felony, 2-8 years for the Class C Felony and ½-3 years for the Class D Felony; all to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Judge Carl Heldt will sentence Embrey on September 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
