Easter Seals Hopes “Hope Days” Incentive Sells 995 Tickets Before Thursday Car-Cash Raffle Drawing
The Easter Seals “Cool Car, Cold Cash†Contest entry deadline is this Thursday (July 28) at noon (CDT), and approximately 995 of the original 3,500 tickets are still unsold.
Raffle proceeds are essential for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center to fund life-changing therapy sessions for local individuals with disabilities. So in an effort to sell the remaining chances, the nonprofit is offering ticket buyers an opportunity to win a “bonus†entry in the drawing, which will award a grand prize of a new 2016 Nissan Versa or $15,000, second prize of $5,000 and third prize of $1,000.
Anyone purchasing a ticket 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, July 25, or Tuesday, July 26, and saying the word “HOPE†will be entered into a drawing to win an extra ticket. The extra ticket winner will be drawn immediately before the grand prize drawing on Thursday.
“Cool Car, Cold Cash†tickets are $50 each or three for $100.  To purchase tickets 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday or Tuesday:
- Call 812-474-2348 or 812-437-2607Â to pay from a checking or savings account (NO credit or debit cards)
- Visit the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, 3701 Bellemeade Avenue, Evansville, IN, 47714 to pay with cash, check, money order or debit card (NO credit cards)
Tickets will continue to be available in person at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and by phone (812-474-2348 or 812-437-2607) Wednesday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m.-12 noon.  However, the chance to win the extra ticket ends Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Easter Seals estimates that approximately 2,505 tickets have been sold since raffle sales began in May. The grand prize drawing was postponed once in an effort to sell additional tickets, but it will not be rescheduled again.
Last year, 3,290 tickets were in the final drawing and approximately $99,000 was raised for therapy. Easter Seals’ goal for this year is to raise $101,000 to fund physical, occupational and speech therapy for tri-state children and adults with disabilities who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
The raffle drawing at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center is open to the public, but ticket buyers donot have to be present to win. Tickets may be purchased by individuals or groups. Entrants must be at least 18 years old. All sold tickets are verified and the drawing is supervised by the accounting firm Kemper CPA Group.
2016 Vanderburgh County 4H Fair BeginsToday
The 96th annual Vanderburgh County 4H Fair gets underway this Monday, July 25, 2016. With shows, music, rides, races, pageants, contests, exhibits and food the 4H fair truly has something for everyone. Â Over 45,000 people are expected to attend this year.
The Sheriff’s Office tent will again be located near the fairgrounds main office. Please stop by and meet the men and women of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office bicycle patrol unit will be on hand throughout the entire fair week.
Sheriff Dave Wedding would like everyone to have a great time at the fair and be safe. “Fairgoers need to remember that farm machinery and livestock can be dangerous if not treated with respect. The potential for an accident exists anytime you bring heavy equipment, large animals and crowds of people together.” Sheriff Wedding added, “Please watch your speed as you drive in designated parking areas. Be on the lookout for pedestrians and children that may dart unexpectedly from a row of cars.”
The Sheriff’s Office asks that fairgoers respect marked boundaries and warning signs. Please keep an eye on small children and don’t permit them to become separated from the group. The Sheriff’s Office tent will be passing out wristbands for small children to wear that will allow deputies or firefighters to call a missing parent on their cellphone. Last year’s fair resulted in a few minor cuts and scrapes, mostly related to trips and falls. The hot weather did cause a few people to overexert themselves. This year’s forecast calls for a high of 89 degrees. Fairgoers are reminded to stay hydrated and avoid direct sunlight for extended periods.
Thunderstorms are forcasted for this year’s fair, please be aware of the dangers of lightning. Pay attention to the fair’s public address system for warnings and instructions. The safest place to be in a lightning storm is inside your car with the windows closed or inside a structure. Do not stand under a tree or touch any conductive surfaces (e.g. leaning against a building or sitting on grandstand bleachers).
Many of the events at the 4H Fair feature off-highway vehicles that are not equipped with mufflers. The sound can easily exceed 115 decibels. At this level, hearing damage can result in less than 30 minutes of exposure. Fairgoers who are planning on attending events at the 4H arena are reminded to bring adequate hearing protection for themselves and their children.
A contingent of Sheriff’s deputies and Scott Township Fire Department firefighters and paramedics will be present throughout the fairgrounds to address any security or safety concerns. The Indiana State Police will be providing traffic control on US 41.
General Fair Rules:
- Firearms are not permitted.
- Coolers and backpacks are subject to inspection.
