Visit Indiana “Unclaimed Booth” At State Fair

0

Attorney General Todd Rokita is inviting Hoosiers visiting the Indiana State Fair to discover their unclaimed property and learn about the services offered by his office.

“It’s a tradition for many Hoosier families to visit the State Fair and we invite them to stop by our booth and introduce themselves,” Attorney General Todd Rokita said. “Our booth offers all Hoosiers a chance to interact with our team and learn about the services our office provides them, including the opportunity to search for unclaimed property.”

Team members will be available to assist Hoosiers with unclaimed property searches. Staff will also have information and tips to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft and other scams.

The Indiana State Fair runs from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, Aug. 21 and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Attorney General Rokita’s booth is located in the Agriculture Horticulture Building and will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. A map of the fair may be found here.

In 2022, Attorney General Rokita’s office has returned over $31 million and has over $700 million yet to be claimed.

New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art (NHGCA) has been awarded a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) to help fund exhibitions for the 2022-23 fiscal year. IAC support provides funding for one-time events like festivals, exhibits, and workshops.

NHGCA was one of 413 community-based arts providers throughout Indiana to receive approved grant allocations totaling over $2.9 million in funds for grants and programs provided by arts organizations and cultural providers who prioritize community engagement throughout the state.

NHGCA, one of the state’s earliest and longest-running contemporary art spaces, presents exhibitions and public programs in Historic New Harmony, Indiana. It serves as a resource to USI students, faculty staff, and the community. Through core exhibitions featuring regional, national, and internationally known artists; public programs such as artist talks, studio visits, and workshops; and other programs such as the Gallery Shop, student gallery BG Projects, and New Harmony Second Saturdays, audiences can experience contemporary art in a unique landscape. Each of these exhibitions is free and open to the public, supporting NHGCA’s goals of providing opportunity, creating dialogue, and building community within the region.

The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary, an outreach partner of the University of Southern Indiana, is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 812-682-3156 or visit USI.edu/nhgallery.

Danny’s Sub And Pizza Recalls Meat Pizza Products Produced Without Benefit Of Inspection

FSIS Announcement

August 9. 2022

WASHINGTON, July 28, 2022 – Danny’s Sub and Pizza, a Cape Coral, Fla. establishment doing business as Danny’s Cuban Pizza, is recalling approximately 19,275 pounds of frozen meat pizza products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The individual-size frozen Cuban-style meat pizzas were produced from January 2020 through July 2022. The following products are subject to recall [View labels]:

  • 14-oz. plastic shrink-wrapped frozen packages containing a single serving of “DANNY’S CUBAN PIZZA AUTHENTIC CUBAN STYLE pepperoni” with no lot code, packaging dates, or other identifying information represented on the label.
  • 14-oz. plastic shrink-wrapped frozen packages containing a single serving of “DANNY’S CUBAN PIZZA AUTHENTIC CUBAN STYLE chorizo” with no lot code, packaging dates, or other identifying information represented on the label.
  • 17.5-oz. plastic shrink-wrapped frozen packages containing a single serving of “DANNY’S CUBAN PIZZA AUTHENTIC CUBAN STYLE Hawaiian” with no lot code, packaging dates, or other identifying information represented on the label.
  • 14-oz. plastic shrink-wrapped frozen packages containing a single serving of “DANNY’S CUBAN PIZZA AUTHENTIC CUBAN STYLE ham” with no lot code, packaging dates, or other identifying information represented on the label.

The products subject to recall do not bear an establishment number or a USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Florida and Texas.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when it was determined that the meat pizza products were produced in an establishment that was not inspected by USDA.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

Consumers and members of the media with questions about the recall can contact Danny Rodriguez, President, Danny’s Sub and Pizza, at (239) 440-9367.

Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or live chat via Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Consumers can also browse food safety messages at Ask USDA or send a question via email to MPHotline@usda.gov. For consumers that need to report a problem with a meat, poultry, or egg product, the online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System can be accessed 24 hours a day at https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF/.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR BY STATE SENATOR VANETA BECKER

1

LETTER TO THE EDITOR BY STATE SENATOR VANETA BECKER

AUGUST 8, 2002

I am a proud lifelong Republican. It has been a privilege to represent Southwestern Indiana for forty-one years. I am a Republican because of my strong belief in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and the obligation of government to serve, protect, and meet the needs of the people in my district and our State.

I recently spoke on the Senate floor, urging the defeat of SB 1, a bill to ban abortion with some very limited and convoluted exceptions pertaining to rape and incest. SB 1 violates all of the Republican principles I stated above. The purpose of government is to help its people live in freedom, safety, and happiness. Government exists for the interests of the governed, not for lawmakers or special interests.

Not one person testified in support of SB 1 at two hours-long Senate committee hearings.

We enter this debate in a bad position. Infant mortality statistics put us at 47th in the nation. Indiana has the third highest rate of maternal deaths—twice the national average. Our public health funding is 45th in the country. One in three Hoosier women already have or will experience sexual assault in their lifetime. One in seven sexually assaulted Hoosier women – women who are our mothers, sisters, wives, children, and grandchildren—will become pregnant as a result of that attack (and that’s just the cases that are reported).

A personal tragedy, the rape of a 10-year-old Ohio child, recently gained media attention because this young victim had to come to Indiana for an abortion. Ohio officials and some media doubted her story. The personal and professional attacks on the physician, a woman, continue to this very day. Do Hoosiers think a 10-year-old girl should be forced to carry the child of their attacker? They absolutely do not.

This bill will have a negative impact on the health care of Hoosier women who are planning to carry their children to term. Indiana already has strict, comprehensive criteria for physicians to be able to practice in our communities. Indiana has about twenty-five maternal-fetal medicine specialists who treat difficult and complicated pregnancies. Will heaping new criminal penalties on doctors encourage these badly needed specialists to practice in Indiana? I think we know the answer.

Finally, considering this topic in a short special session just prior to the election does not give this serious matter the attention it deserves. I fear the legislature does not appreciate the astounding unintended consequences they are creating in passing this flawed legislation. But Hoosier women do.
