IS IT TRUE JULY 3, 2015

IS IT TRUE that EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith informed Brad Byrd during an interview on WTVW/WEHT on July 1, 2015 that the EVSC Board selected an out of town attorney negotiator to represent them in Union contract talks with the Teamsters Local 215 after the EVSC’s local attorneys chose not want to represent the EVSC in such discussions due to potential political concerns? …we wonder if the local attorney Dr. Smith talked about this issue being political was Pat Shoulders? …Pat Shoulders is the Attorney of record for EVSC?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith would admit that the discussions between EVSC and the School Board has the potential of being political on TV? …discussions between EVSC and the Teamsters should be about contractual agreements, employee benefits, work place safety, retirement and other employments issues but not political concerns?

IS IT TRUE we would like to apologized to one of our readers that proved us wrong concerning EVSC School Superintendent Doctoral Degree? …we said that Dr. Smith has a Doctoral Degree from Harvard? …our reader was correct that Dr. Smith Doctoral Degree was from Oakland City University, Oakland City Indiana and not Harvard? …we must have been hoping for a Superintendent with Harvard-like qualifications.

IS IT TRUE we wonder why the EVSC School Board meets in Executive Session before every school board meeting? …we wonder why the Executive Session last 2 to 2 1/2 hours and the regular school board meeting last about an hour? …is it possible these Executive Sessions follow the letter of the law and comply with why an Executive Session is necessary and also that NO votes are taken and NO consensus is reached? …why have these Executive Sessions at EVSC has never been questions by the Courier and Press when ever other unit of government had been questioned about this?

IS IT TRUE we read in yesterday’s Courier and Press and found that ECHO HOUSING CORP Director Stephanie TenBarge’s statements interesting? …she feels if the city spends about $15 million of our hard earned tax dollars on the North Main project, it with attract many developers and businesses to locate on North Main? …is this the same Stephanie TenBarge that convinced the Director of the DMD to fund a $35,000 plus painted Mural on the side of building behind McDonald on North Main Street? …she believed that by painting this Mural on the side of a building it would encourage economic development? …we are finding out that some people in local government find it extremely easy to spend other people’s money? …your tax dollars at work under the Winnecke administration.

IS IT TRUE would it be better use of the North Main TIF money to go into the surrounding neighborhoods repairing streets, sidewalks and tearing down dilapidated houses? …these improvements would make a difference, not bike paths and murals?

IS IT TRUE we wonder how the North Main TIF Fund is going to pay $15 million dollars for renovation of that area when the fund has only $3.5 million in that account? …the Mayor is planning to borrow the additional $11.5 million dollars to fund that project? …again, pass it along to the taxpayers?

IS IT TRUE that Mayoral Candidate Gail Riecken’s campaign will be focusing on taking the message of the Winnecke administration’s lack of sound fiscal responsibility and total transparency to the voters.

IS IT TRUE the recent announcement about Gail Riecken’s new campaign Director shows she is ready to launch an extremely aggressive and sophisticated campaign for the office of Mayor of Evansville? …better get ready for an extremely interesting campaign because this is gonna be a good one folks?

    • You do realize when public employees negotiate essentially they are negotiating with taxpayers, right. Even FDR thought that was a bad idea.

  1. Wonder if he would admit on TV that the discussions were about not getting a CBA but doing a little Union Busting. Their employees deserve better than that because if you haven’t noticed they do a wonderful job for the EVSC and all the students. IS IT TRUE!!!

  2. ? Maybe he just didn’t want to be a part of another year of Union Busting ?

      • Back when EVSC actually had a financial officer who was a CPA I asked her how we could ever determine just how much EVSC was spending on legal work. She stated that it was possible to pull up the disbursement records for a given year and come up with a total. Of course that is not likely to be something EVSC would ever do on their own initiative for fear that the public would find out the total. It is however something any taxpayer in Vanderburgh county can request using a public information request form. This is the only method I would trust as it would have the associated paperwork as verification.

Unfortunately her tenure was short lived, and her departure went without explanation to the public.

  3. Here he goes again (Santa Lloyd) borrow, borrow, borrow, spend, spend, spend . . does anyone in this City hold this Obama-like Mayor accountable for his wild-eyed recklessness spending . . who in the hell thinks that bike path up N. Main Street will economically energize the area . . .beyond Columbia Street are there not row housing? Why this crazy project . . .because this Mayor has NOT accomplished one damned thing except wear out the magnetic strip on the back of the City;s credit card . . .PITIFUL!!!

p.s ANY COUNCIL MEMBER THAT SUPPORT THIS ADDITIONAL SPENDING( BORROWING) NEEDS TO GO!!

    • Are you implying that the good mayor be a bit more niggardly with tax revenue?

      • Now there’s one straight out of your ace.

Bet you would like to take that one back.

        What’s say Condompilot?….

        • I’d say, look up the word. Totally appropriate. I knew I’d catch at least one lefty loon on here.

          • It’s so easy to miss them off! They look for things to miss them off. They then call names and make inane analogies.

  4. Wonders will never cease . .thought the Ziemer firm would never turn down a buck . . . maybe the treat of losing Labor contribution to the messiah of Evansville and ultimately the legal work the messiah bring to the firm sobered them up . . ???

  5. I thought Dr. Smith’s transparency about the EVSC’s local attorneys’ fear of political reprisal by the union to be quite refreshing. Perhaps the CCO can get a response from Mr. Shoulders concerning his stance on this issue.

  6. I’m not Lloyd Winnecke’s biggest fan. But Gail Riecken’s thus far been a pretty underwhelming candidate. Hiring (then firing) a bad campaign manager, the John Friend debacle, continuing to raise funds for her State rep campaign…now Pat Tuley, Pat Shoulders, Bill Jeffers, and other local Democrats are throwing a fundraiser for her Republican opponent?

None of this smells like impending victory.

  7. From what I understand Ben Young couldn’t get along and had to be let go. How does that reflect badly on Gail Riecken? Maybe bad if she’d have let him stay and cause internal division in the campaign but she showed strength in making the change. How does whatever John Friend ‘debacle’ you’re referring to hurt her? She is a State Representative and a good one. How does raising money for a potential campaign to keep that office make her look bad? It seems a logical thing to do. Politicians do it all the time, shows good planning and foresight, unlike Winnecke who couldn’t run a brothel in a gold rush.

How many city elections in a row do those you mentioned, Pat Shoulders et al., get to support the Republican candidate and still be referred to as Democrats for purposes of an unsubstantive smudge like you put up? Shoulders’ law firm feeds mightily at the public trough, he has a vested interest in seeing Winnecke re-elected. If the money isn’t enough reason, he actually said, ‘My son was in their daughter’s wedding, for God’s sake’ . Now that is one convincing reason to vote for Evansville’s failed mayor, the worst in modern times, Lloyd Winnecke.

You forgot to mention her principled stand in Urbana, it belongs right in there with the rest of your air post. It might have given that meringue a little substance.

    • If she has no ammo in her arsenal to use on democrats who are actively supporting Winnecke, and she fails to go after them, then she is not the person for the job anyway. Go large, or go home!

    • When one is bereft of ideas, flamethrowing, however ineffectual, becomes the MO. Sometimes it works though…Romney didn’t pay his taxes per Dingy Harry Reid.

      • Whomever it was that beat the snot out of the corrupt dingy harry should return and finish the job.
