IS IT TRUE August 22, 2011 Early Evening Edition (Budget Hearings)

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville City Council will start the 2012 budget hearings from 3:30 to 5:30 and the it will be televised on WNIN?…that there are several issues that we at the City County Observer along with some City Council members are just itching to see brought up?…that we are predicting a healthy level of discomfort as some of the questions or possibly even inquisition level issues are brought up?

IS IT TRUE that with respect to the plan that is required by the EPA to be completed and submitted for approval by the end of 2012 that there had better be some money allocated to make the plan and verify the technical feasibility of the plan?…that failure to do this will result in the future administration being fined up the wazoo just like the Weinzapfel Administration was last year to the tune of $490,000?…that if this ball gets dropped after the 20+ times that the City County Observer and other news outlets have reported on it then someone or some group on the City Council need to be gone?…that we will be watching closely and reporting on this situation?

IS IT TRUE that City Councilman John Friend, CPA who heads the Finance and Budget Committee is spoiling for action on two fronts?…that Councilman Friend has been adamant that the $160,000 that has been verbally committed to audit the IT Department of the City of Evansville be included in the IT budget as opposed to an independent line item that may magically disappear later?…that Councilman Friend also has some serious questions regarding the choice of London Witte as the lead Vettor of the proposals for the downtown Convention Hotel?…that in 2010 London Witte made a campaign contribution in the amount of $8,500 to the “Weinzapfel for Mayor” campaign?…that Councilman Friend is intent on having assurances that the vetting process is not compromised or even appear to be compromised by any previous work that London Witte had done for the City of Evansville or by any political contributions of any kind?

IS IT TRUE that last October was when City Councilman Dan McGinn received the commitment that he would be provided with all of the details and line items associated with the full legal services spending by the City of Evansville?…that it has now been 10 months and Councilman McGinn has not received the information that he requested?…that the firm of Jones and Wallace LLC, and David Jones, one of its partners made political donations to the “Weinzapfel for Mayor” campaign in 2010 in the total amount of $13,200?…that this is the firm that has been under contract to represent the Mayor’s office and to do other legal work on an hourly basis?…that the people of Evansville deserve to know exactly what is being spent and where when it comes to legal services?…that until this information is provided and made public the legal budget for 2012 should be set aside?…that maybe it would even be worth considering freezing further spending in 2011 until Councilman McGinn is provided with the information that he requested?

IS IT TRUE that the City County Observer would once again like to express our appreciation to the Office of Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel for keeping us off of the distribution list regarding the Bob Seger concert to open the Ford Center?…that the Mayor’s policy toward us just inspires the CCO and the Mole Nation to work even harder to scoop Evansville on every embargoed piece of information that there is?…that Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel is perhaps the biggest contributor to the juggernaut of growth that the CCO has experienced?…that the City County Observer, its owners, and its principle writers contributed exactly ZERO DOLLARS AND ZERO CENTS to the “Weinzapfel for Mayor” campaign in 2010?

  1. I hope you also contributed nothing to the Winnecke or Davis campaigns for mayor too.

    • Actually in this business the best policy is not to make any political contributions period. I gladly follow that policy.

      • What is in it for you then? Money for this site is coming from somewhere, it doesn’t run itself. Please let us know

        • All revenue is ad based and all ads pay. All candidates for office have the same deal and we accept all that want to buy one. We may charge for content someday but right now we just want to expose bad actions to try and promote good public policy. It is really simpler than some people think and we have no axes to grind.

  2. CCO can toot their horn all they wish about the number of views it gets but the truth is that once the hotel is cemented it will become a ghost site. I am sure that they know it too, that’s why they vowed to not mention it again until the vetting was complete yet they have continued to write about it. I would like to view the political contributions that they have made as well as who has contributed to CCO.

    • Welcome back Jack!

No contributions given to anyone and none received. Check every political donor form you like and you will see no donations either way.

Our traffic from hotel related articles is under 5%.

The hotel deal going well will not do anything to our traffic as long as the McCurdy is a mess, the parks are homes to druggies, the population keeps shrinking, local government spends $200k on houses to sell them for $100k, Vectren charges triple what Henderson does, there are 10,000 abandoned houses in the City of Evansville, a house a week blows up from a meth explosion, our smartest young people leave, no money is available for entrepreneurs, and our local government thinks spending $240k each for apartments worth $20k is a good investment.

When all of that is under control we will gladly shut down. Our work will be complete.

        • jack? more like joke.

as in: it’s a joke that this joker keeps pushing his establishment agenda on the CCO comments.

remember when you claimed the CCO was getting sued? That was a pretty good joke, jack.

        • Wasn’t about the hotel at all. It was about a topic that was tentatively scheduled for tonight’s City Council meeting. It was news today.

    • Jack, check for a leak on the exhaust system of your Chevy Vega because your post makes no sense.

  3. WOW…that was really relevant to the thread you hillbilly bowhuntin redneck! However, I will address your comment. It hasn’t been very long since that question was posted and I am sure that you are well aware of how slow some wheels turn. Wait and see………..

    • All I know is: the only reason you’d come to a website you dont like to make comments in a discussion with people you dont like, is because you have an agenda.

You’re either part of the establishment, or someone who benefits from it.

You’ve shown a recent interest in the Hotel discussion – any affiliation with Kunkel? Is Weinzapfel your buddy? Who are you, mr. nameless faceless “jack”? And why do you choose to spend your time on a site you do not like?

    • Hmm…the more I think about it, the more peculiar it is that you would consider the hotel debacle (and that’s what it is) to be the driving force behind the traffic on this site. As a daily reader, while it’s an important issue, it really is not highlighted as much as many other things are.

What is your stake in the hotel deal, jack?

      • I have no stake in it all, for that matter I have never been to Evansville. I truly enjoy getting the rednecks of this site fired up. There have been ver few posts that would indicate you folks have a clue about big business and what it takes to get there. This site is fueled by the political agenda of a couple candidates who think that they have what it takes to make a change in small midwest town that no one cares about!

        • So you are someone who is not from Evansville, has no interest or care for the politics or the people, yet for some reason continues to repeatedly visit and comment here with no motivation whatsoever?

          You’re funny.

If it’s true, it’s pretty sad that you spend your evenings commenting on a site you dont like about a city you’ve never been to with people you dont care for.

But in reality, you have an agenda, and I think I hit the nail on the head associating you with Kunkel.

          Prove me wrong.

          • I loathe the content of this website…but just like a nasty looking accident…you cannot help but look.

The spin that is spun on current events – the ridiculous comments & accusations made by the same posters all the time…Who could resist looking?

          • YOU…come up with a way for me to prove you wrong and I WILL certainly do that. Ball is in your court!

            • Okay, I am watching the back and forth with you and Bowhunter 72 with some interest. You have posted quite allot of inside knowledge about the hotel proposals. This kind of detail knowledge is not of interest to many people that are not with the City, the ERC, local media, or one of the bidders. You claim to have extensive knowledge about EB-5 financing in one post and I have no reason to doubt you. I do not think that any member of the Evansville City Council or the ERC had ever even heard of EB-5 before last month. To have had experience with it you must have been involved in a transaction elsewhere.

Please share with name and places that can be verified. That is the kind of story that the CCO would like to publish but we would require corroboration and rock solid truth to run with. A real life chronology that is now a complete hotel that went through the EB-5 experience would certainly be of value to the City of Evansville.

You state that you have never even been to Evansville and have no stake in the deal yet the intricate financial proposal details of this subject captivates your attention enough to gather information and to bother to post. Why???

I do not really care about your name or your occupation. I am interested in how you found out about the City County Observer and what keeps bringing you back. Someone with no local history could not give a hoot about Roberts Stadium or the McCurdy. There have to be rednecks for you to torment in Louisville or some other place. What makes the CCO so special to you?

        • If this site was more generic in content I think we could believe your statement, given the content of the site your either a friend of Johny’s (paid troll) or as stated a lair who does have a vested interest in the hotel project. If neither of those are correct you are a very bored person who has found a site where you can be a keyboard commando spewing fact-less posts on topics you know nothing about. You seem to be pretty good at guessing, tell us who will be our next mayor, or which company will get the hotel contract, or when the pigeons will be liberated from the McCurdy?

One other topic on the web traffic to this site if you think it’s driven by posts on the hotel project you are really naive and missing the big picture, in our community truth/transparency in government is in short supply, it is a precious commodity to the public, and the CCO has done a great job shedding light on topics that our current administration has tried to keep us in the dark about, as long as this is the modus operandi of our government the CCO will flourish.

          JMHO

  4. When Whiney-Boy the Mayor is done Kunkel will be done as well. Good riddance to corrupt politicians and corporations!

  5. Jack, and houseofder,– an obsession with something (CCO) that apparently gives you two, “pain”, strikes me as unhealthy, usually verified by the gibberish you both seem “compelled” to come up with,
Are the Voices making you do it?
