Gail Riecken Challenges Lloyd Winnecke To Debates In Their Contest For Mayor.
Evansville, IN – Mayoral Candidate Gail Riecken announced today that she has challenged Lloyd Winnecke to 3 debates in their contest for Mayor.
“I look forward to giving the voters the opportunity to hear us discuss the issues in an open and public debate,†said Riecken. “It is extremely important to the future of the city of Evansville that our next Mayor has a vision for a better city and an understanding of how to fix our problems. The voters should have the opportunity to learn all they can about the candidates in an open exchange of ideas.â€
Gail Riecken is running for Mayor of Evansville and is a former Evansville City Council-woman, Evansville Parks Director, and a current member of the Indiana State House of Representatives. She is a lifelong Evansville resident, has been married for 46 years, and has 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
Mrs. Riecken also wants to let it be known if you pressure her too hard she WILL get into her car and drive to Illinois untill things cool off.
Gail went to Illinois at great stress and inconvenience to her and her family. She did what she did out of courage and dedication to the people she represents, not out of weakness. The fact that this is the main point of criticism from the Winnie camp proves how weak the failed Mayor you are trying to prop up for four more years of cronyism really is.
He won’t debate her because he is a failure. He has appointed the worse pack of incompetents to serve in an administration that has completed NOTHING, but has brought the city to the verge bankruptcy.

You can call tons of BS if you want, but the easy way would have been to go to Indy and let RTWFL pass without a whimper of protest. She had a sick grandchild at the time, as well. She did the hard thing to make it known that all of the Indiana legislature isn’t a bunch of sheep to be herded by the Chamber.
Good points Elkay. Taking a principled stand at considerable inconvenience to yourself and family is a foreign concept to some. More legislators should follow her example when an obdurate majority tries to steamroll them.

Yes, we all know that you are in the tank for current Mayor, and you take every opportunity to bring up the issue of Gail and the conscientious objection she and many Legislators had to issues at the Statehouse. It is getting be an old and tired comment, and just shows how uninformed you are with your partisan hackery. Maybe leave it alone and do us all a favor
I stand by what I posted. How can you trust someone that when the going got tough she left. She did not make a stand. She FLED the hot spot. She listened to the Democratic party leaders and left. I would have been impressed if she held a news conference in front of the state house and gave everyone heck.
How can we trust a person that cowers to her party and does not make a stand. It shows that she does not believes in herself. That she is not a leader.

I don’t choose to call you anything except exceedingly uninformed. Perhaps if you tried to list the positive points of the candidate you favor instead of running down a candidate in a uninformed way, you might actually get somewhere. Otherwise people just skip your post and move on as I will do in the future.

Good. I hope Winnecke takes her up on her offer, it’d be nice to see him try to stand behind his non-existent record of achievement. Maybe some colorful flip charts of proposed bike lanes and artists renderings of a revitalized Jacobsville would obviate the need for him to actually speak. He could use the opportunity to showcase his fine new hotel and maybe toss a sop to the marchers among us by showing a slide of his fizzled Cross March. Show ’em bunched at the McCurdy or wherever that great body of children’s art went after a couple of courts banished them from Riverside. Perhaps he could get his buddy Ken Haney to do a flyover and tip his wings to a sucker.
With his degree in communications he’s a lock to do well in a debate. Isn’t he? Huh?

simple split S and he’d be reverted to toast. Of course there is a art to a well planned “split S” maneuver. Like planned engineering some things require practice and honed skills. Given that I’d not put any worries into the overhead circling of such as Mr. Haney.
I would take’um out into the first four minutes of engagement. Hell and I’m an old guy.

Look at the quality of the people beating the drum for Winnecke. They are saddled with an abject failure for a candidate, one with zero accomplishments and no record to run on. A simple conman’s mark. All they can say about Gail Riecken is that she went to Illinois. A principled stand is anathema to them. It is something they would never do and one of the many things they cannot understand. Let the Winnecke Huggers bray Urbana all they want, it shows the vacuity of their horse’s campaign. Their candidate is the worst mayor Evansville has had in modern history. They are going to have to overcome that little fact to get that clown re-elected. If Winnecke is truly proud of his record he needs to get some help.
Gail didn’t think she was going to change anything by her virtuous protest. She didn’t quit her job, quite the contrary she was representing her constituents in magnificent and newsworthy fashion.

The CourierPress ran an editorial about how nice the new Moped Law is the other day. They managed to do it without ever mentioning Gail Riecken’s name. They said it was first ‘brought to the legislature’s attention’ by Suzanne Crouch and when she took a job with Pence ‘other lawmakers picked up the issue’.
The Moped bill was co-authored by Gail Riecken.
