Eagles finish road trip to Missouri

The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team concludes its four-match road swing to Missouri this weekend when it travels to William Jewell College Friday and Rockhurst University Sunday. Match time for Friday versus William Jewell in Liberty, Missouri, is 7:30 p.m., while the kick off at Rockhurst in Kansas City is 2:30 p.m.

Following the end of the road trip, the Screaming Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for a two-match homestand October 18 versus the University of Illinois Springfield and October 20 versus Lewis University.

Week 6 Eagle Notes: 

USI splits last week: The Screaming Eagles split their GLVC games last week, extending the winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over Southwest Baptist University before suffering a 4-0 defeat at Drury University.

Season leaders: USI is lead in scoring by senior midfielder Sean Rickey, who has seven points on a team-high three goals and one assist. Senior forward Eric Ramirez and senior midfielder Adam Becker are tied for the team-lead with two assists each.

Between the posts: Junior goalkeeper Justin Faas leads the Eagles between the posts with a 1.09 goals against average, has a 3-1-2 record, and posted a pair of shutouts.

The Cardinals in 2019: William Jewell is searching for its first victory of the season after posting a 0-8-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the GLVC.

USI versus William Jewell: USI leads the all-time series with WJC, 4-3-1, and have won the four of the last five, including last season’s regular season match, 2-0, at Strassweg Field. USI senior forward Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana) scored both the Eagles’ goals in last fall’s victory.

The Hawks in 2019: Rockhurst, who plays McKendree University Friday before hosting the Eagles, is at .500 this fall with a 4-4-1 record, 4-3-0 in the GLVC. The Hawks have won three of their last four matches entering this week.

USI versus Rockhurst: Rockhurst has had the upper hand with the Eagles all-time, leading, 21-2-3. USI broke a eight-match winless streak to Rockhurst, 2-1, during the 2018 regular season match at home on goals by Ramirez and senior midfielder Sean Rickey. The Hawks, however, bounced back to defeat the Eagles in the GLVC Tournament, 3-1, at Strassweg Field.
