IS IT TRUE JULY 19, 2017

IS IT TRUE that a group lead by the Chamber of Commerce employee Josh Armstrong is trying to cram a new tax down on downtown businesses?…they want to charge for Main Street frontage, space, fees, and they somehow expect more taxes to help a struggling collection of businesses?…downtown businesses are already wearing the yoke of excessive utility bills because of the old poorly insulated buildings and vigilant meter maids writing tickets against shoppers and diners?…this tax has got to be one of the most insane things proposed if downtown revival is a goal?…we say Josh, this is not Michigan Avenue or Madison Avenue?…Josh, you seem to have lost any perspective on where you are?…this is not LA, New York, or South Beach in Miami?…this is Evansville, where people earn paltry salaries and pay exorbitant utility bills?…you really just need to forget about taxing these struggling businesses if you want to succeed in your Chamber of Commerce subsidized job?
IS IT TRUE that the City of Evansville is trying to develop about 8 to 10 parcels of land in the Second,Third, Sycamore and Vine streets areas in hopes it will attract a multi-million  residential and retail development? …that Kelley Coures, Director of the Department of Metropolitan Development predicts that a RFP will attract some awesome development proposals?  …wouldn’t it be wise if Mr. Coures spend his time on correcting the expensive North Main Street curb mistake and also trying to get rid of the dilapidated and vacant North Main CVS building he purchased several years ago for the city around $650,000?
IS IT TRUE that the Ford Center management In the shape of one Executive Director, Scott Schoenike of VenuWorks owned up that athletic events drew sparse crowds last year but he sure did put a positive spin on things?…Schoenike actually said the Ford Center is doing great, right before he said overall attendance was down due to low attendance for Evansville Thunderbolts and University of Evansville basketball games?…these are the only two sports teams that use the Ford Center and there are reasons for the attendance to be down?…the Aces simply didn’t have a very good season last year so it should not surprise anyone that attendance was down after the previous year that was a decent team?…the Aces have been losing fans ever since moving downtown and the only thing that will cure this situation is winning over 25 games a year while beating some good teams like Wichita State?
IS IT TRUE that the Evansville Thunderbolts is a different situations altogether?…Schoenike says they will work on promotions and giveaways to try and pull hockey fans in?…this is no,way to put together a winning team in a second tier hockey league?…even with a private businessman on board the Thunderbolts put an inferior product on the ice?…it is time to face the fact that Evansville crammed a $127 Million hockey rink down the taxpayer’s throats and a hockey team that has not caught on?…it isn’t likely to do so either?…all of the talk about this just being a fluke down year are delusional?…we wonder how many of out elected members of the City Council actually believes this nonsense?…we can’t wait to see how many hundreds of thousands of dollars that the Evansville Thunderbolts costs the taxpayers of Evansville this hockey season?
IS IT TRUE that the City County Observer would like to thank and congratulate the law enforcement members who took down a drug gang in Evansville and confiscated 10 pounds of fentanyl laced heroin?…there were eight people arrested who we’re operating a sophisticated heroin franchise in Evansville from Riverside Drive to Franklin Street?…it is not widely publicized that there have already been 43 deaths from illegal drug overdoses in Evansville in 2017?…five years ago Evansville was the meth capital of America and it now seems like our addict citizens have moved on to heroin?…we hope the fight to eradicate this scourge continues and that some public education programs will be launched to hopefully keep the deaths and destruction of heroin addiction?
IS IT TRUE that a group of private citizens has formed a group to “Support Those Who Protect US”?  …that people from all walks of life shall be holding a “Public Safety Appreciation Ceremony” on August 23, 2017 on the steps of the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum?  …stay turned for additional information concerning this long overdue public event thanking the “Public Service Employees” of Vanderburgh County for doing an outstanding job in protecting us?  …its time for citizens of Evansville to stand up and be counted by attending the “Public Safety Appreciation Ceremony” on August 23, 2017 on the steps of the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum?
Todays READERS POLL question is: Do you feel that the city should add an additional tax on downtown businesses to encourage development?

  1. excellent “is it true” today, Editor. disagree with a bunch of it, but well done

    • hey pressanycommie, i take it from this post you agree that colluding with putin and russia is f’n wrong because they are an enemy of the united states (who funded and provided arms to north vietnam and killed 60,000 american soldiers).
but in plain black n white, in his own email, trump’s son admitted to seeking help from these scumbags to win the election. thats not the media reporting that, its trump jr.’s email. And that is all fine n dandy to you, isnt is pressanycommie

      • Please change your handle. John Birch was pro-China, not a rabid McCarthyism follower, as you appear to be with your insults and innuendos.

  2. The problem with the Ford Center….concessions and tickets are overpriced for the product (specifically UE and Thunderbolts).

  3. It is apparent that Kelley Coures could not successfully run a lemonade stand in a heat wave. Paying $650,000 for the North Main CVS? How many millions of dollars will be spent fixing the North Main Street shopping cart path fiasco that was built too narrow for trucks and buses to pass?

  4. Probably most have heard that Wichita State has left the Valley Conference while Creighton left three years ago or so . . . maybe the departure these very competitive teams will allow UE to have a better shot at the top but that remains to be seen. Of all the coaches in the Valley, Marty earns around 180k while the other Valley Coaches are in the neighborhood of 650-900k . . .so, call me Blue-Boy because I will be holding my breath . . .

    • Don’t feel sorry for Marty, he couldn’t hold a Division I head coaching job at any other institution. He should pay UE from his camp income for keeping him.
