Wayne Parke Points the Finger at the City Council for ERC Failures

Republican Chairman Condemns the System that Allows for 10 Week Lags to post Public Information

The Evansville Redevelopment Commission failure to post up to date meeting notes and requiring a password to gain access to this public information is inexcusable. This situation warrants a full investigation by the Evansville City Council to determine who is responsible for this mess and take immediate appropriate action to prevent this type of situation from ever occurring again. This situation and the embarrassing and very costly failure to not have a Arena/Centre Hotel under construction is another indication the Evansville Redevelopment Commission has failed to do what is reasonably expected of them.

Along with the Mayor, I believe it is the Evansville City Council has the responsibility to to ensure the Evansville Redevelopment Commission does the job it was appointed to do in a responsible professional manner including being transparent with it actions. This situation is a clear sign the 35 years of a Democrat majority control of the Evansville City Council needs to change on election day, November 8, 2011.

Wayne Parke
Chairman Vanderburgh County Republican Party.

  1. Now I’m starting to believe this was planned…..what else is going on that we should be paying attention to? is or was this a diversionary tactic to create a problem, find a quick cure and make someone look good? It’s all too suspicious that it was fixed so quickly almost like someone was looking for a response, so they could make a statement….something smells here and it’s coming from the civic center.

  2. Wayne, I think you’re just singling out a hot button issue to promote your political agenda. The problem can be solved whether city council is predominantly Democrat or Republican. And I’m sure you can find plenty Democrats that agree with your position on transparency regarding appointed boards.

Rather than reducing this sad insidence to partisan politics, why not approach it simply for what it is … an instance of generic political arrogance that should be remedied regardless of the partisan makeup of the city council now or in the future.

    • So…

He agrees with our Mayor (D).

Then he proceeds to tell us that is exactly why we should all vote for Republicans in the next election?

      ————

Then soon2b feels confident labeling this a “sad incidence of PARTISAN POLITICS”? (emphasis added)

      ——

Again, he agreed with the Mayor.

Do you see why this place turns logic upside down and thrashes anything not progressive leftist?

      • Man, you’re totally obsessed with Mayor JW. Ate up with it. And that’s like being obsessed with a lame duck. Literally. It’s over, man. When nothin’ is left of wheat but the straw, you gotta stop threshing it, and move on.

        • The point… was not to say the Mayor and Wayne are both wrong.

The point was to note that if Wayne is agreeing with the Mayor (of the other party), and also adding the shameless if not mandatory – being from a party chairman – weak, generic plug for his party… it’s far, far from hyper partisan as you claim.

Just because telling it like it really is, isn’t at all favorable for your good buddy JW… that doesn’t make me some obsessed, hater. With your rose colored glasses, I’m not sure you could decipher a strand of wheat from duck droppings. 😉

  3. Speaking of overtly partisan politics. Wayne couldn’t say:

This is just more of the same from an administration that previously stole %5 Million dollars from the taxpayers in the dark of knight in an offsite meeting where no records were kept of the votes – now could he?

No. Not because that would have been overtly partisan, it would have simply been a fact.

No, he still has to SUPPORT the candidates that, ahem, were in attendance stealing our money, too!

  4. ERC? I think they are continuing to do exactly what is expected of them,
    —by their puppeteer.

  5. Am I to understand that The Mayor hand picks the ERC Members, and then expects the City Council to oversee the actions of the ERC ? Why not just discontinue the entire ERC and let the City Council take over ? If I were a City Council member I would refuse to “be responsible” for an appointed board’s actions ! Why would the City Council be expected to babysit another Commission ? Just fire those ERC people, that’s what I would do.

Mr. Parke: site the statutory responsibility of the City Council to “manage” the ERC. If there is statutory guidance to Mr. Parke’s way of thinking, then the ERC concept should be immediately dissolved and let the City Council have both the authority and the responsibility combined. Anything else would be unfair.

    • Beerguy, herein lies the problem. Too many thumbs in the plum pie. Just exactly who is in charge here?? Elected officials, or appointed ones? If the answer is not clear, we are all in a world of hurt. If there is not a statute in place …. well, let’s get started. I am sure another ordinance will not muddy the waters.

  6. sorry, cite (not site). May not be a statute, may be an ordinance. Anyway, put up or shut up, Mr. P !

  7. The butchering of English grammar and spelling on this web site is so bad that not only the articles, but also the comments can barely be understood. They are so bad that they must be deciphered, as if they were written in some kind of secret code. I don’t know what kind of equipment you guys have, but my computer tells me when I misspell a word, giving me the opportunity to correct my error. I also actually read the stuff I wrote before I click the “Post Comment” button to assure myself that people will understand my message.

In regard to the City Council, the Mayor’s Office, and the ERC, does anybody really think that rules, regulations, or laws mean anything to these people? If we all haven’t come to that conclusion by now, when do you think all of us will catch up with the truth? Decades-long dictatorial rule by Vanderburgh County and Evansville Democrats has resulted in a giant sucking sound of families fleeing to Warrick County to escape the corruption and incompetence that is the City-County Building.

Quit bickering and clean this mess up, because it’s all your fault!

  8. Dr John is scraping away at the barnicles on the bottom of the ship of state here. How can we cruise on with so much drag in the water? CCO is helping to identify what Democrat rule in Evansville looks like. The problem is that if you keep doing what you have always done, you will keep getting what you always got. The public is seeing what Democrat rule looks like, and what Wayne Parke is saying is this is the reason we need change … and now. Is he wrong? Enough with the bi-partisan stuff. There has been no bi-partisanship in the Evansville City Council for how long? Instead of a quorum, we have had a monopoly.
