Volleyball travels to Indiana State on Friday

Aces face Sycamores at 5 p.m. CT

 Just one match is on the schedule for the University of Evansville volleyball team this weekend with the Purple Aces making the quick trip to Terre Haute to face Indiana State on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.

Weekend Recap

– In the second full weekend of Missouri Valley Conference action, UE split its matches against Valparaiso and Loyola

– On Friday, Evansville earned an exciting 3-2 win over the Crusaders as Melanie Feliciano had a match-high 21 kills

– Allana McInnis posted 53 assists while Gabriela Macedo added 33 digs

– Rachel Tam had a strong outing with 14 kills with Alondra Vazquez notching 12 kills and 14 digs

– Loyola earned a 3-0 win over the Aces on Saturday, holding UE to a .064 hitting percentage

– Tam led UE with 10 kills in the match

Top of the Valley

– Evansville continues to rank among the best in the MVC in several categories; UE is second in the league in assists (12.72/set), second in kills with 13.53 per frame while ranking fourth in digs and service aces

– Nationally, the Aces are 4th in attacks per set, 20th in digs per set, 32nd in assists and 40th in kills per game

– While UE’s 17.06 digs per set rank 5th in the conference, it is 20th in the NCAA with the Valley having six of the top 23 in that stat overall

– Individually, Melanie Feliciano is second in the Valley with 4.53 kills per set; she ranks 16th in the nation in that stat and second amongst freshmen

– Feliciano’s season totaly of 314.0 points is 12th in the country

– UE’s freshman is 9th in the NCAA in total kills with 290 while Rachel Tam is 17th with a total of 272

– Allana McInnis is second in the conference with 10.75 assists per set; her average is 29th in the NCAA while her total of 688 helpers in 2019 is for the 5th-highest tally in the NCAA

– Gabriela Macedo is 13th in the nation with 5.36 digs per game, a stat that paces the conference; her 26 service aces on the year is tied for 42nd nationally

– Hannah Watkins paces UE with 1.04 blocks per game; that is fifth in the MVC

Let’s Get It Started

– Winning three of its first five MVC matches in 2019, the Aces are off to their best start since 2010

– Evansville was 5-2 to begin Valley play that season

– The 12-4 record is also the best start since 2010; UE was 16-3 to start that campaign

Scouting the Opposition

– Indiana State comes into Friday’s match with a 2-13 record while dropping their first five conference matches of the season

– Offensively, the Sycamores are led by Nikkie White’s average of 2.73 kills per set

– Chloe Mason has a team-best 5.86 assists per game

– On the defensive side of the net, Melina Tedrow is averaging 4.90 digs per game while Cassie Kawa has chipped in a total of 41 blocks
