VHS’ LOW-COST SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC FIXES 39 COMMUNITY CATS IN VANDERBURGH COUNTY FOR NATIONAL FERAL CAT DAY

1

National Feral Cat Day was October 16th, 2017. The VHS Davidson Rausch Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic is a proud annual participant in this initiative. For 2017, the Clinic offered $10 spay/neuter surgeries for community cats in Vanderburgh County. 39 cats were fixed on Monday, October 16th as part of this initiative. This means 39 fewer cats reproducing and having unwanted litters of kittens on our community’s streets.

The VHS Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic opened in July of 2007 and has performed more than 65,000 surgeries since then. This has prevented millions of unwanted puppies & kittens from entering area shelters. Every year, a large portion of the 800+ kittens the VHs takes in come from mothers who are feral or community cats. The VHS offers a low-cost TNR (trap-neuter-release) program through our Clinic year-round. People can rent a trap or use their own, and get a community cat fixed at a low rate. The fees, which are $30 for males or $50 for females, also include vaccinations and an ear tip for identification. The Clinic is NOT restricted by income or residency; anyone, even those outside Vanderburgh County, can use these services.

The driving force behind this national effort is Alley Cat Allies, an agency that promotes the care and spay/neuter of community cats. Visit www.nationalferalcatday.org for more resources and information.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the VHS receives no funding from the city of Evansville or Vanderburgh County. The organization is not financially affiliated in any way with the Humane Society of the United States, Alley Cat Allies, or the ASPCA. Initiatives like this are made possible through the Spay/Neuter Fund. Supporters can contribute to sponsor a surgery in a number of ways.
