Earlier this week Mayor Winnecke declined  the invitation by the Commander of the Vanderburgh County Veterans Council, Mark Acker to attend the “CALL TO ASSEMBLE” gathering.  This event is an nonpartisan  political forum to be held on September 23, 2015 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.  Posted below is Commander of the Vanderburgh County Veterans Council, Mark Acker statement concerning Mayor Winnecke declining to attend this event.

OFFICIAL  STATEMENT  FROM VANDERBURGH  COUNTY VETERANS COUNCIL  COMMANDER, MARK  ACKER

When told  that current Mayor Lloyd Winnecke declined his invitation to attend the “Call To Assemble” event on September 23, 2015, that would benefit the Vanderburgh County Veterans Council and Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Commander Mark Acker stated that he is “deeply saddened and disappointed.”

“I don’t understand  why the Mayor would decline this invitation in order to attend the ongoing Traveling City Hall event that are poorly attended and could easily be represented by one of his staff.”   “I hope he will reconsider his decision because the area Veterans would like to know what we can expect from him the next 4 years if he’s reelected Mayor.”

MARK ACKER

COMMANDER, COUNTY VETERANS COUNCIL COMMANDER,

Just in case you missed Mayoral; Candidate Gail Riecken  e-mail she sent to Commander Acker accepting his invitation  to attend the “CALL TO ASSEMBLE”  we have attached  her acceptance e-mail.

GAIL RIECKEN ACCEPTANCE LETTER TO ATTEND THE “CALL TO ASSEMBLE”.

Dear Commander Mark Acker

As a wife, who’s husband was a Navy Veteran and served three (3) consecutive tours in Vietnam, it’s an honor for me to accept your invitation to speak at the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County’s “Call to Assemble” event on September 23 held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

When our county called upon the brave men and women to serve their Country for the cause of Freedom, they did. Today our Veterans are calling our local political candidates to “Assemble” at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum and I consider it to be a privilege and honor to participate in this event.

I also share the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County’s commitment to encourage honest, open governance, with transparency and better accountability to our beloved City. As your State Representative, I have work tirelessly on issues that effect our Veterans and shall continue, if I’m elected Mayor of Evansville.

I strongly feel the “Call To Assemble” will give me the opportunity to discuss the present and the future of our great city in an open and honest dialogue.

I look forward to attending this event and excited about discussing the real issues with my opponents.

Sincerely,

Gail Riecken
Mayoral Candidate For the Great City Of Evansville

  1. Dear Mr. Acker,

I too am sorely disappointed. My father fought the Japs and witnessed the ultimate sacrifice of so many of his comrades. It is so prudent of our leaders to recognize and honor those who have served our great Country so well.

Now, when our beloved veterans need encouragement and support, those leaders need to stand up for them. Of course, we should expect attendance by Mr. Winnecke and the Councils unless the term leaders doe not apply especially in Mayor Winnecke’s case.

  2. As a veteran I must express my disappointment in the mayor not attending and my disappointment with the traveling city hall. The traveling city hall is a great idea promoted and subsidized by the Federal Government. If you have not attended a couple I recommend that you do so. The shows that I have been to had a featured theme and were very enjoyable for me and about a dozen individuals not related to the program. The program participants and associates outnumbered the citizens more than 2 to 1. As long as someone else’s tax dollars are paying for it, those twelve in attendance are getting a good deal. I was disappointed that the mayor only made a few comments and introductions. He did not even take questions from the citizens. He did not even allow the questions to be asked in public forum style. The protocol was simply to call for anyone with a problem to take it up with the department heads seated around the room. The dozen or so of us attendees could have accomplished that downtown for pennies on the dollar compared with the cost of the show that was presented. To add insult, I was told by the department head that I needed to talk with someone else in his office downtown. I am disappointed, the traveling circus could have gone on with out the mayor making introductions.

  3. I’m saddened by Winnecke turning his back on our veterans. Once some patronage feasting anonymous aide slips a note under his door advising him that he’s screwed up again he’ll likely don the helmet of a tank driver, just like Dukakis did. Maybe he’ll go full camō until the election. Regardless of his dress-up de jour he’ll never be more than his current costume.

    • Using language like….”turning his back on our veterans.”
This was written by a Tea Party type, right?
The national Republican Party ran ads like that for people who voted agains the Iraq War.

      • We’ve refurbished the Bus Station for you Becker. Why don’t you go take a couple of laps around it? It’ll make you feel young again.

Not really unexpected that Winnecke would turn his back on our veterans or surprising that Becker would ride to his defense.

        You’re a piece of work Weinz/Quartz.

        • ..you’re missing the point. More of the negative from you. More of the negative attack from you. Bandanda…You have become your opposition, and you have embrace their tactics. You’re no different. You are what Indiana Enoch is talking about when he accuses someone of simply being Giddy for Gail when the whole damn world knows you intend to do nothing different…you are the same in fact. You just want the chair. Why? Because you just do. THAT is your campaign message. That SHOULD be offensive to you to hear that, but you’re lost, so you can’t see it.
There’s nothing positive from you Bandana. The Riecken people are right to veer away from you.

  4. Mayor Whiney is making a typical “political” decision. He believes that he has nothing to gain, as most people with military backgrounds tend to vote Republican. He clearly doesn’t give much respect to the voters he takes for granted, so I’m not surprised at his decision not to attend. Sham on him!

    • ELKAYBEE – Winners have a vision. They win because their ideas are better. Tell us why Riecken will be better. All you ever write is how Winnecke is bad. Both you and Bandana. It’s all….”Winnecke, bad!”

      • Leave her alone Weinz/Quartz/Becker. You are a troll. As trolls do, you change screen names more often than your underwear.

        Embrace Winnecke, he’s your man.

        • Bandana,
Everytime I discuss the Mayor’s race and the candidates, I always discuss it in context of great ideas and a great vision. Sorry, you don’t have that capacity.
I have said, repeatedly, Riecken’s vision for a strong downtown Evansville, and a strong commitment to the innovative public/private partnerships to continue the excellent progress being made downtown, are central tenets of her candidacy for the Mayor of Evansville.
It is a winning idea and a winning vision. And Riecken has my vote for the next Mayor of Evansville.
(You make people want to quit. It’ s all bad, all the time from you Bandana. Quit, quit, quit.)

          • For starters she won’t have phony ground breaking ceremonies, and go around town telling the whole city and hell, the whole tri-state, that the financing was in place for the Hotel when he damn well knew it WAS NOT IN PLACE. Making a complete horse’s
ass out of himself and the City of Evansville a laughingstock, AGAIN.

Gail has posted a list of things should would do differently maybe you should read it.

And just why in the hell do we want to be in the lousy stinking convention business anyway? That’s done nothing but leave a trail of financial ruin for nearly every city that has tried. Charlotte NC lost their a** on the Dem national convention. If you can’t make money on boozed up delegates your never going to make money. This list of failed convention Hotel projects is longer and more messed up than GOP presidential candidates.

            Owensboro has done it? PATHETIC

Bob Warren pulled numbers out his backside? Even more PATHETIC.

I have repeatedly asked for a financial justification for the Hotel and gotten zippity do dah. You can’t do it because the numbers aren’t there.

So maybe you, Wayne Parke, Kelly Coures and Winnecke can huddle together and create one. My guess is that you will be as successful at that as “Establishment” republicans like W the Lesser and Winnecke have been at helping the country and EvansvillÆŽ

PS Winnecke’s done jack shat about the sewers.

      • Gail has a grasp on the reality that is Evansville and a long record of acting in the interest of the voiceless. She will deal with our CSO issues, public transit, making this a safer place to live, and taking care of potholes and crumbling sidewalks. She doesn’t suffer from the delusion that all we need is a tacky hotel, some bike paths, and a dog park to become a destination city. I don’t think she’d have sneaked any cash to Haney and friends, either.

  5. Today’s Readers Pole should have a fourth choice: “Don’t care if Winnecke shows up or not. He’ll just spew his usual s#!t!

  6. Here’s my take. It doesn’t matter if you think Gail will do anything different or not, or if she even will do anything different, at this point, pre-election.

The only thing that matters to me is the obvious lying, patronage, cronyism, incompetence, and bully tactics displayed by this administration.

It must not be rewarded with re-election. That is a message that must be sent by voters.

If, in time, we see Gail on the same rail as Winnecke was, then she will be a one-term mayor.
Lather, rinse and repeat until we get the leaders who get the message. This was a mess of our own doing over decades (and ignorant blind partisanship).

  7. If you want poor and trashy comedy of a Civic Center hanger-on, follow the comments Steve Schaefer makes every time he attends a City Council meeting.

He is an embarrassment to the position he holds with Mayor. Why does Winnecke keep him?

    • disaffected,
Drives everyone here nuts! So many. Lost.
Win with better ideas, not censorship. Win because you are right. Not by embracing the ideas of the extreme – which is what censoring is. (My comment is never gonna make it to this board. I know that. But my point is correct. This HAS to stop.)

    • We’re holding some news for you, and that has nothing to do with Laura Blackburn whatsoever. BTW ,you will be affected, so to speak. Stay tuned data and facts are undisputable in the realm of recorded science. Unless you are indeed fool enough to dispute it, you will be ok for now. Simple is as simple does. …….

  8. For 32 years, I lived in another county in Indiana which was totally controlled by a a single party. The winner of that party primary was the winner of the election so why vote in anything but the primary and it did no good to do that. Now I live in an area where there are choices. Some may not like them and some love to bitch about what others think and say on these site but please be grateful that you have choices. I choose to vote with independent thought. I never have and never will belong to any political party. It is very freeing to do so. It is also freeing to step back and read the BS that some of you spout. You must really think the rest of the readers cannot see through your babble. Arrogance sometimes runs amok. Those of you who demand that others provide them with x,y, or z need to find your own data. Don’t ask of others what you are too lazy to do yourself. I encourage everyone to vote —– Vote for the right reasons and for someone who is honest and stands a good chance of being able to do a good job, not a perfect job but at least a good job running the city or the county or the department for the next term or two. BTW for those 32 years that I lived in that one party county, it was pretty stagnant. It had such predictability it was boring and had little demand to improve. It had a very slow place, and was out of control from trying to be kept in control by the old guard from 100 years ago and their grandchildren today still in charge today.
