USI’s Hodges named GLVC Player of Week

University of Southern Indiana senior catcher Haley Hodges (Portage, Indiana) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for softball in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Hodges hit .579 with a home run and eight RBIs to lead the No. 14 Screaming Eagles to a 5-1 record on the road this past week.

In USI’s doubleheader sweep of Midwest Region foe Trevecca Nazarene University, Hodges became USI’s all-time leader in home runs and RBIs as she finished the day with a solo shot and five runs batted in.

She returned to the plate Friday to go 3-for-3 with an RBI in USI’s game-one victory over Drury University. She was a combined 4-of-8 with a double and two RBIs in USI’s doubleheader split with Missouri University of Science & Technology Sunday.

For the week, Hodges posted a .789 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage. She had a hit and at least one RBI in five of USI’s six games.

Hodges, who is earning GLVC Player of the Week for the third time in her career, joins sophomore second basemanClaire Johnson (Pittsboro, Indiana), senior shortstop Lexi Reese (Lebanon, Indiana) and freshman pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt (Louisville, Kentucky) in earning a GLVC weekly award this season. It also is the third straight week and fifth time in the last six weeks that a USI Softball player has been recognized as either a GLVC Player of Pitcher of the Week.

USI (24-6, 5-3 GLVC) returns to action Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts former GLVC foe Kentucky Wesleyan College in a Midwest Region doubleheader at the USI Softball Field. The Eagles resume GLVC play Saturday with a noon doubleheader against McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. They travel to Springfield, Illinois Sunday at noon to take on the University of Illinois Springfield in a GLVC doubleheader.
