USI seventh at GLVC Outdoor Championships

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Outdoor Track & Field finished seventh of 12 teams at this weekend’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Romeoville, Illinois.

Junior Kate Henrickson (Boonville, Indiana) got things started for the Screaming Eagles by placing second in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 9.67 seconds. She topped seniors Kate Duty (Owensboro, Kentucky) and Melina Gryschka (Garbsen, Germany), who finished third and fifth, respectively.

USI also had two top five finishes in the 5000 and 10,000 meters. Senior Jessica Lincoln (Palatine, Illinois) claimed second place in the 10k in 39:04.49 with sophomore Ashley Lawhorn (Frankfort, Kentucky) in fifth in 40:08.92.

Lincoln was also half of the top five finishes in the 5k, placing fifth 18:21.68. Freshman Jennifer Comastri(Indianapolis, Indiana) took second in the event in 17:58.56.

Henrickson also scored a ninth-place finish in the 1500 meters in 4:50.02 while junior Allison Rollins(Newburgh, Indiana) placed 10th.

Comastri, Henrickson and Lincoln each earned second-team All-GLVC honors for their second-place finishes.

USI scored 42 points while finishing seventh, with Lewis University scoring 174 points to win the team championship.

The Eagles will compete in their final meet of the season before the NCAA II Outdooor Championships with the Dr. Keeler Invitational May 10-11 hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
