 University of Southern Indiana Baseball opens the 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule on the road at the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday and Sunday. Game time for Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game is set for noon each day.
The three GLVC games also is the start of a five-game road swing that ends March 10-11 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. The March 10 single game is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CDT) with the March 11 series finale is at 1 p.m. (CDT).

SCREAMING EAGLES BASEBALL NOTES #4:
Eagles drop the second half of homestand. After winning three-straight to begin the six-game homestand, the Eagles dropped all three in the second half to ninth-ranked Ashland University. USI lost the opener, 10-7, before losing the second game 9-4 and the finale, 8-3.
At the plate through 9 games. Freshman outfielder Austin Moody leads the USI hitters (minimum 15 AB) with a .333average (11-33) and is tied for second with five RBI. Senior outfielder Manny Lopez has a team-best nine RBI to start the 2020 campaign.
Archuleta at USI. USI Head Coach Tracy Archuleta is USI’s all-time winningest coach with a record of 480-262 in 13-plus seasons and is 628-386 in 18-plus seasons all-time as a head coach. He has been named the ABCA Division II Coach of the Year twice (2010 and 2014) after leading the Screaming Eagles to a pair of national championships and the ABCA Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading USI to the regional crown in 2007, 2016 and 2018. Archuleta also has earned a pair of GLVC Coach of the Year awards (2011 and 2014) at USI.
Eagles vs. Prairie Stars. USI leads the all-time series with Illinois Springfield, 22-11, after being swept by the Prairie Stars last season on the road. The Stars have had the upper hand the last three seasons, taking nine of the last 11 meetings.
Illinois Springfield in 2020. Illinois Springfield starts the GLVC slate on a three-game winning streak and is 8-3 to start the spring. The Prairie Stars are predicted to place fifth in the GLVC in 2020.
Eagles vs. Argonauts. The Eagles trail the all-time series with West Florida, 2-0, after losing both games of a series in 2018 in Pensacola.
West Florida in 2020. West Florida, currently, is 9-7 to start their campaign and will host USI next week at the end of a 10-game homestand. The Argonauts, who are 3-1 to start their homestand and have four more games before the Eagles visit, have won four of their last five games.
National Championship always the goal for Eagles. The Eagles have made a habit of competing in the NCAA II Championship over the last 13 seasons. USI has made eight NCAA II Midwest Regional appearances; won five Midwest Region crowns (2007, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018); and captured the NCAA II National Championship twice (2010, 2014). The USI program tied for third in the 2007 NCAA II National Championship series, while finishing fifth in 2016 and eighth in 2018.
