USI Ends Six-Match Road Marathon At Bellarmine

The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team ends its six-match road marathon to start the year at eighth-ranked Bellarmine University Sunday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (CDT) in Louisville, Kentucky.

USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field September 22 when it hosts the University of Indianapolis to start a weekend homestand. The weekend homestand concludes when the Eagles take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside September 24.

Week 3 Eagle Notes: 

Eagles split first weekend in the GLVC: USI started the 2017 GLVC schedule with a road split, defeating the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0, and losing a heartbreaker at Maryville University, 2-1, in double-overtime.

USI is 3-2 through first five of road trip: The Eagles are 3-2 through the first five games of the road trip. Freshman forward Maggie Winter (St. Louis, Missouri) continues to lead the way with eight total points on three goals and two assists. Freshman defender Madelyne Juenger (Columbia, Illinois) follows Winter with seven points on two goals and a team-best three assists.

GLVC Preseason poll: USI is picked to place ninth in the GLVC during the 2017 season, while Bellarmine is forecast to place fourth this season.

Schoenstein enters his second year: USI Head Coach Eric Schoenstein is in his second season as the head coach of the Eagles, producing a 12-11-1 mark (.521).

Eagles looking to gain ground versus Knights:  USI hopes to gain ground this year versus Bellarmine, trailing the all-time series, 13-6-4, after battling to a scoreless double-overtime tie last fall. The Eagles also will be fighting for their first victory over the Knights since 2004, going winless in the last 12 meetings.

Bellarmine in 2017: Bellarmine, which hosts McKendree University Friday before hosting USI, saw its record go to 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 GLVC after defeating Missouri University of Science & Technology, 2-0, in Louisville last Sunday.
