The Department of Continuing Education at the University of Southern Indiana has released a new series of noncredit continuing education courses for the fall semester. More than 75 offerings in the categories of academic enrichment, arts, fitness and recreation, family, leisure, and personal development are available.

High school students (grades 9 to 12) can develop strategies and identify study priorities for the SAT by registering for Math Skills for the SAT and Verbal Skills for the SAT. Participants will gain hands-on experience with an interactive computer program and a will receive a take-home practice test. Additional offerings for children include Preschool Swimming, Swimming for Boys and Girls, Kids’ Flip, and Saturday Art Workshop.

Learn how to prepare a grant proposal in Grant Writing Workshop: Beyond the Basics. Instructed by USI Grant Writer Jane Friona, the interactive two-part workshop will help participants decipher complex funding opportunity announcements, determine whether an opportunity “makes sense” for their organization, and formulate a project plan.

Home Maintenance 101 for Women, Getting Started on Acoustic Guitar, Creating Your Novel, Passport to Retirement, and Social Security Planning for Boomers are among the arts and leisure offerings and courses in the fitness and recreation category include Beginning Golf, Sailing School, Eating Indiana, Learn to Scuba, and Officiating Volleyball.

Noncredit courses are designed to provide opportunities for personal growth and development and are open to anyone, regardless of educational background. All courses are presented in a noncompetitive and informal atmosphere where interest in learning is the primary consideration. No grades are assigned and formal admission to the University is not required for course registration. Courses are available through USI’s Division of Outreach and Engagement.
