In coordination with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Albion Fellows Bacon Center is hosting our 20th Annual Take Back the Night Event on Thursday, April 27th at 6:30 p.m. at Tropicana Events Plaza. The event’s purpose is for advocates, survivors, and supporters throughout our community to take a stand against sexual violence. The event will include a march, a candlelight vigil honoring survivors, a survivor testimonial, and a speak out for attendees. This year’s featured survivor is Holly K. Dunn Pendleton, the only known survivor of the Railroad Serial Killer. Holly will share her story and discuss her lifelong process of healing emotionally.
Every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. During 2016, Albion Fellows Bacon Center served 687 individuals impacted by sexual violence. This was an increase of 105 individuals in comparison to 2015. These numbers establish the need for a call to action to raise community awareness about sexual assault. Community awareness is vital to ending sexual violence. We must change how our society views sexual violence. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a chance for our community to come together to make a change. Join us to Take Back the Night and get involved in the movement to end sexual violence.
