Seward, Hough lead USI women’s runners to victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Freshman Zoe Seward (Rochester, Indiana) and junior Cameron Hough (Olney, Illinois) raced to a one-two finish to lead University of Southern Indiana Women’s Cross Country to a first-place finish at its season-opening Stegemoller Classic Friday evening at Angel Mounds.
 
Seward finished the four-kilometer course in 13 minutes, 47.7 seconds, 26 seconds faster than Hough, who was second in the 27-competitor field with a time of 14:13.8.
 
The Screaming Eagles had seven of the top 10 finishers, with junior Katie Winkler (Santa Claus, Indiana) and sophomore Micah Peals (Terre Haute, Indiana) finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Senior Aubrey Swart (Noblesville, Indiana), junior Emma Thompson (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) and freshman Sara Livingston (Jasper, Indiana) rounded out the Eagles top-seven with respective finishes of eighth, ninth and 10th.
 
As a team, the Eagles finished with 24 points, 11 better than second-place University of Evansville, which placed three freshmen in the top five. Kentucky Wesleyan College rounded out the three-team field with 82 points.
 
USI returns to action September 16 when it competes at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. The men’s race begins at 8 a.m. (CDT), while the women’s race is at 8:45 a.m.
