On Thursday, May 25, 2017 at approximately 4:57 AM the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the Lloyd Expressway at the intersection at Boehne Camp Road upon report of a motor vehicle crash involving injury.

On scene investigation and witness statements indicated that a white semi-truck operated by Mr. Joel J. Cobb of Memphis, TN had been traveling west on the Lloyd Expressway prior to colliding with the rear of a blue Volvo semi-truck. The Volvo had just begun movement under a green light at Boehne Camp Road when struck and was forced into the rear of a white Oldsmobile Alero passenger car.  The force of the collison tore the cab from the frame of the white semi-truck.

The Perry Township Fire Department and AMR arrived to assist with the injured drivers. After extrication, Mr. Cobb and his passenger, Mr. Deron Brown of Memphis, TN were transported to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Volvo semi-truck reported no injury. The driver of the passenger vehicle, Mr. David Bretz of Evansville, complained of neck and head pain and was evaluated at the hospital.

Pursuant to state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, all the drivers consented to post-accident blood draws. The investigation will remain open pending toxicology results.

The crash resulted in a significant diesel fuel and oil spill, which required closing or restricting travel on the roadway for nearly five hours.
