Coroner Press Release:
1:30 PM August 2, 2012
Given By: Wayne Parke
Chairman VCRP

Today I am pleased to announce that I have selected a strong candidate to run on the Republican ticket for Vanderburgh County Coroner. The person filling this office is of utmost importance not only to our County and City, but also the surrounding communities.
The status quo must GO! It simply cannot be tolerated any longer.

For 4 years now, we effectively have had a part-time official in what should be a full-time job. The incumbent does not have the professional background to properly work with local law enforcement. She does not seem to understand the coroner’s office requires a full week’s work. We cannot tolerate an officeholder who takes such a lackadaisical approach to this important office by spending way too much time socializing.

I am proud to announce the Republican candidate for Vanderburgh County Coroner will be
Mr. Gary Gulledge. Gary was born in Evansville, graduated from Central High School and attended USI and UE. After college, Gary worked in the construction industry for 13 years.

Gary joined the Evansville Police Department in 1988. While serving on the EPD, he was a Patrolman, a Field Training Officer, an Investigator in the Violent Crime Unit and was accepted into the FBI as a sworn Federal officer. He has received training in numerous fields both inside and independent of law enforcement, including Drug Enforcement, Ethics, Management, Death Investigation, and Forensics. He has received an immense amount of recognition during his distinguished career in law enforcement. He is very proud of his service to our community.

As Coroner, Gary will be able to work effectively with local law enforcement, looking for creative ways to find solutions and streamline the operations of the office. Raised right here in Evansville, Gary understands the needs of Vanderburgh County residents, and he will work around-the-clock to see that the coroner’s office is doing everything it can to ensure that those needs are being met.

I could not be more pleased to introduce to you the next Vanderburgh County Coroner,

Gary Gulledge.

  1. I have worked with Gary for many years and believe that he would make an outstanding coroner. Gary is a man of integrity who has an excellent work ethic and has proven himself to be a high quality investigator.

His combination of tact yet toughness, intelligence and ability to build a consensus with those that he works with, will make him a great public service.

  2. Count me and my friends in to support Gary.

That Groves lady is to much of a “social party girl” for me.

    “GROVES IS GOT TO GO”!

  3. This is awesome news, finally someone who will put a positive face to that office. How many times has she shown up in the evening to a scene with alcohol on her breath, too many to count. Hopefully the voters will get out an vote for Gary. The Republicans couldn’t have found a better candidate. It is time the Main Stream Democrat (Groves) another fence jumper, was sent downstream. Gary has my vote and all of my friends and family. Gulledge for Coroner.

    • Mr. Gulledge will bring some integrity to the management of the Vanderburgh County Coroners office that has been missing since Mr. Don Erk Sr. left….You have my vote Mr. Gulledge.

    • Hey”FedUp”! I’d like to know your Real Name as it’s only Fair if you are going to Defame anothers Name and Reputation…that WE the fine folks of Evansville and Vanderburgh County know your name so we can make up lies about you! Hiding under the Umbrella of a Psuedo-NAME allows any of us to make thoughtless Blanketed Statements all while Hiding under the Guise of a Unknown Blogger.

Fess Up or Hush Up is my feeling on anyone writing in The CCO Blog whom attempts to ruin anothers Professional Reputation.

This isn’t to me a Democrat or Republican subject when it comes to making accusations in which no one can back up. This article when read close says, “I have no experience or training working in a Coroners Office but I am a Police Officer.” Then goes on making accusations taking your attention away from all of what Mr Gulledge doesn’t have which is………if Elected Ill be on the bottom working my way up as I don’t know how to run or operate a Coroners Office! Mrs Groves is the best qualified for this job as she has done this for years and she does it well! Mr Gulledge’s lack of experience here makes me uncompfortable, I don’t want someone faking their way through while we have people whom are experiencing the loss of someone they love.

      • You do know what working in the Coroner’s office entails, right? If not, I suggest you take a close look. Then take a look at Mr. Gulledge’s background. Then talk about his “lack of experience”.

        • Yes, Pistachio I do! I have knowledge of what most all my elected officials do in each of their Capasity as my elected official no matter what affiliation this person is.
Here’s my brief description of what this office holder does when Elected. A Coroner has complete access to all deaths in our county they investigate suspicious and unnatural deaths. They gather all information from Autopsy and Law Enforcement when making determination of Death. They deal with Families of desceased and basically deal one on one with them during this process. Sign off on all Death Certificates and send them to the Health Department for issue of Death Certificate. Coroners serve the role of the Administrator of a Death Investigation. They ID the Desceased and Determine Cause and Manor of Death. Are the officer of the court and with the power to investigate and power to order autopsy. Additionally, in Indiana they are Certified via taking a State Sponcered coursework and internship. They are Not Medical Examiners! The coroner has many speaking engagements in an effort to make citizens aware and in the hopes to prevent unnecessary deaths especially concerning our youth! Vanderburgh County has just under 20 employees I think the number is 18 or 17 in which our coroner is responsible for. There is an annual budget coroners have to stay within and they are the face to perspective County elected officials and the Mayors Office. This office is also about Families and getting them through this loss in with Intregity.

Ms Groves has all of this and years of experience which make her the best choice for Vanderburgh County. And in my opinion this is one job in which a person is elected due to perspective party affiliation but once seated has little to do with whether she/he is a Dem or Rep………that is put away and the coroner while working they take care of Families in their community.
Is there something Big that I missed Pistachio? This job in am certain cannot be described completely but I think I gave a good description of what our a Coroner in Indiana does.

As I said in my first posting I don’t like seeing person’s names be defamed and character ripped apart and this is why I posted originally. Had bloggers not said some of the terrible things they did, I wouldn’t of commented at all.
Mrs Groves does a excellent job and I have not once heard anything but good things about how she does her job!

          • Coroner Groves does not put in a full forty hours a week like the citizens of Vanderburgh County deserve. She brags that she only has to work one hour a year and still collects over $60,000 salary and a take home vehicle. She needs to log off Facebook now and then. That is just the beginning with her performance as coroner. Just because someone has been employed by an office for that long does not mean that they are the most qualified for the job. Groves is a walking disaster when it comes to managing an office.

          • Okay “conservatative 47715” again here we go with hersay and nothing to back it up with. You are making blanket statements with nothing to offer up as proof. Honestly you sound like a bitter fired employee. I am done commenting on this subject……I am not concerned as to whether Mrs Groves will be re-elected and feel confident she will win. As I have stated a few times……..its the defamation I get sick of in this Blogspot and nothing more. And that you do it under the protection of a Nick Name when you say such things and don’t identify yourself! Seems to me those with the Neg Comments are more afraid of being found out and maybe are employed by the city or county. Just a guess, nothing more!

  4. Word at the Civic Center is that Ms. Groves is extremely upset about Gulledge running against her.

In fact, many of the court house employees are extremely pleased that Groves shall have a well known and experience person running against her.

Maybe she will put the bottle down for a while and stop being a part time coroner!
