“President Trump’s former FBI Director’s Congressional testimony, which was under oath, outlining meetings and conversations with Trump, was telling and damning. Why? Because it was believable. The intelligence agencies, the entire law enforcement community, the judicial community, all watching, and they all believed him.
Whatever Trump’s FBI Director’s reputation, he is clearly an intelligent, accomplished law-enforcement professional with a reputation for executing careful procedures. And it is not strange for an official to take notes after a meeting or conversation with a president.
Trump’s fans want to say, “Comey was lying about it all.”
No Sir. It begs credulity that the former FBI Director would have tapped out “elaborate fictions” in a one-man note-taking plot to bring down a president. He works for the FBI. He must have known it possible the calls and meetings were taped, in which case the contents would be used to destroy him if he lied.
All of Congress knows this: Trump’s problem is an FBI Director documented, again and persuasively, that Mr. Trump does not understand or care about the rule of law.
As I watched, I wondered how many other Trump appointees, officials and White House staffers are writing themselves memos?”
