Letter to the editor, printed without opinion, bias and without editing.
Today a group of local political activist well be picketing WFIE-14-NBC from 2-6 p.m, tomorrow afternoon. Brenda Bergwitz is the local protest organizer said, “it’s time that local Channel 14 TV start reporting the truth. We are not only tired of what Channel 14 TV isn’t doing in reporting fair and balance local news and political events but we are disappointed that local CBS and ABC TV stations are following suit. We are also tired of the bias reporting of the Evansville Courier and Press. We are sick and tired that the local mainstream media is so biased and don’t report the real truth in Evansville and Vanderburgh County political happenings”.
She added, “Local politics is looking like Chicago. Today is our first protest against the bias reporting by local mainstream media and I urge everyone to join us. So please get off your duffs off the couch and get involved before it is to late.”
Thank you
Brenda Bergwitz

I would just like to note that the CCO is one of the most biased news sources out there. They blatantly say a specific person is right or wrong. How about you protest CCO.
I agree, but I think Brenda is independant of the CCO.
I am no fan of WFIE or their news department. It has been fluff for years. For example, last week they posted a story about the most common google searches by state. Any 3rd grader or above could see immediately it was fake. A quick google search confirmed it, yet, they posted it as a factual story. Pretty pathetic.
With that said, if Brenda wants to be taken half way seriously, I would strongly suggest a little proof reading. This is pretty sad. In addition, a little fact checking might be in order. For example, the so called local CBS station does not even have a news department. Seems a little hard for them to be biased when they don’t even exist. Come on Brenda…
Earlier today Cco was not considered a media outlet and now it is. Where is Mr. W? 14 is ran by the machine.
Who cares if anybody thinks CCO isn’t a media source. Bottom line they have thousands of people reading it everyday who thinks they are.
I enjoy reading both the CCO and Courier and find them to have value news. So stop bashing the CCO and be glad we have a second opinion available when it comes to local news.
I understand and even share Ms. Bergwitz’es disgust and frustration with the local mainstream media, especially in light of the treatment SBR got. I’m not certain that picketing is the way to register those feelings, though. I suspect it will do more harm than good.
News journalism is nonexistent in Evansville for a long time. When cable came to town it reduced audience share which made local businesses want to buy time in the news blocks. This increased the demand which in turn increase the ad rates and profit centers for the local stations. When this occurred it put pressure on the news department to be careful of reporting as not to offend any advertisers; advertising demand forced increased news blocks; pressure to make news profit increase which meant less reporters actually doing news stories or digging for the back story.
The same can be said of the courier & press in order to remain profitable they have had to decrease the number of reporters thus their news reporting has moved to fluff.
The observer I read to check on bookings and read a few news stories for the comments. The observer is guilty of just taking a press release and reporting it without question. All outlets locally are doing this and this is NOT journalism. A good example is in today’s release is a reprint of the local congressman wanting the resignation of the VA secretary. Since he is republican and follows the republican line this is not news. What would be news is calling him and asking why he rejected increasing veteran benefits? IF we do not call our politicians to task regardless of their political affiliation, we can expect to be uninformed and more of the same.
Can someone please explain the 1st sentence to me?
