OBITUARY OF ‘CHARLIE” STOCKER

Charles “Charlie” Stocker, age 71, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 12:40p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021.

Charlie was born March 11, 1950, in Evansville, IN, to James and Anita (Miller) Stocker. He was a 1968 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School. During his youth, he earned Eagle Scout status and was selected to Report to the Nations. He received a degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Evansville. He further earned a degree in horticulture from Vincennes University.

For 21 years he owned and operated Stocker’s Garden Center on Evansville’s west side. He eventually focused his career exclusively on landscaping.

“Charlie” as he was popularly known, had been a member of the West Side Nut Club for over forty years. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Farm Bureau and was the President of the West Side Improvement Association. He also contributed to Keep Evansville Beautiful.

Charlie attended Christian Fellowship Church where he taught fourth and fifth graders for over twenty years. He additionally had a passion for Good News Jail and Prison Ministry where he was Chairman of their board.

Undoubtedly, the cornerstone of Charlie’s life was his faith in God and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Charlie has been regularly featured on WEHT’s Local Lifestyles where he was fondly known as “The Garden Guy”.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lynn Mueller Stocker and brother-in-law, Durbin Woodson. He is survived by his son, Nathan Stocker, of Myrtle Beach. SC; daughter Kalah Stocker Schmitz (Andy); grandsons, Miles and Jude Schmitz; siblings, Jane Saghir (Dr. Marcel Saghir), Ruth Smith (Earl), Barbara Woodson; nieces and nephews, Brad Smith (Stephanie), Brian Smith (Stephanie) Jason Saghir (Heidi), Peter Saghir (Alexandra), Sarah Saghir Brauer (Jason); great-nieces and nephews Sophie Schutte (Joseph), Addison Smith, Isabelle Smith, Ayden Smith, Hannah Saghir, Matt Saghir, Luke Saghir, Scarlett Saghir, Ella Brauer, Mia Brauer, Olivia Brauer. Constant loyal companion, his dog, Lilly.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Rd, Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastor Cliff Herring officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time. Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Rd, Evansville, IN 47725 and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 until time-of-service.
