University of Southern Indiana Men’s Soccer defender Madelyne Juenger was named College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American in a vote of the NCAA Division II sports information directors. The Academic All-America award is the first for Juenger.
Juenger is the second USI Women’s Soccer player to earn the award since Susan Ellsperman received the award in 2011 and 2012.
To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District, the student athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). They must have reached a sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
Due to the cancellation of the 2021 NCAA Division II championship season, nominations were based upon career athletic statistics.
Juenger, a 2021 USI magna cum laude graduate with a degree in elementary education, has led the Screaming Eagles defense the last four seasons. USI defense has recorded a 0.91 team goals against average and 37 shutouts in four years and 74 matches.
The four-time Academic All-GLVC and All-GLVC performer also contributed on the offensive side of the field during her career, posting 35 points on nine goals and 17 assists. She finished her career ranked 13th all-time at USI in points and tied for fifth in assists.
In the GLVC-only 2021 campaign, Juenger had five points on one goal and three assists.
As a team, the Eagles concluded their first spring regular season with a 12-4-1 overall record, 10-3-1 in the GLVC, and earned a second-straight trip to the GLVC Tournament finals before falling in the title match. USI is slated to resume a normal season schedule this fall.
