Pickens and Chaney improve In Day Two At Ball State Aces Wrap Up Second Tournament Of The Fall

In the third and final round of the Ball State Cardinal Classic, Maria Pickens and Madison Chaney notched the low scores of the day for the University of Evansville women’s golf team at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.

Pickens and Chaney each registered rounds of 80 to improve in the individual standings.  Pickens completed the tournament with a 242, tying for 88th, while Chaney’s round saw her wrap up the event with a 250.

Sophia Rohleder led the way for the Purple Aces.  A final-round score of 83 saw the freshman card a 240 in three rounds of play, tying for 84th place.  Pickens followed her with a 242 while Minka Gill was third on the squad.  Gill posted an 87 on Tuesday to total 246 strokes for the tourney.  She took 93rd.

Chaney was fourth for UE while Giulia Mallmann completed the contingent for UE, totaling a 268 in the tournament.  As a team, Evansville finished in 19th place with a 977.

Top team honors went to the University of Indianapolis.  A total of 863 shots saw them defeat Bradley by 13 strokes.  Akron took third with an 883.

Jacinta Pikunas of the Zips was the medalist.  She tied for the low round of the day – a 72 – to wrap up the 3-round tournament with a 210.  She finished six ahead of her nearest competition.

A trip to the Butler Invitational is next up for the Aces.  Set for October 2-3, the tournament is at Highland Country Club in Indianapolis.
