Steven Tyler’s Former Girl Friend to Speak at Annual Life Chain
Steven Tyler’s Former Girl Friend to Speak at Annual Life Chain
On Sunday afternoon, October 7, Right to Life of Southwest Indiana will host the annual Life Chain. Thousands of people who support life will occupy sidewalks in over 1,400 U.S. and Canadian cities, as defenders of human life seek God’s divine help to end the legalized killing of unborn fellow citizens.
Locally, pro-life supporters will line Green River Road sidewalks between the Lloyd Expressway and Lincoln Avenue. The Life Chain supporters will gather at Brinker’s Jewelers parking lot at the corner of Green River and the Lloyd Expressway for a rally and to pick up signs. Free signs will be distributed beginning at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Julia, Holcomb, the ex-girlfriend of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and formerly of American Idol will be the special guest speaker. When Julia Holcomb was 16 years old she became the legal ward of Steven Tyler, lead singer of the rock band Aerosmith and former American Idol judge. At age 17, when she was over 5 months pregnant with Tyler’s first child, she barely survived a fire that burned their apartment. While still in the hospital recovering from smoke inhalation, she was coerced into a horrific saline abortion. She is the author of the memoir The Light of the World- the Steven Tyler and Julia Holcomb Story, published by LifeSiteNews and credits her Faith in Jesus Christ as the life line that helped her rebuild her life after her abortion trauma.
She writes, “I pray that all those who have had abortions or have participated in any way in an abortion procedure may find in my story, not judgment or condemnation, but a renewed hope in God’s steadfast love, forgiveness and peace. Marriage and the family are the building blocks of all virtuous societies. I pray that our nation may find its way back to God’s plan by respecting the life of unborn children and strengthening the sanctity of marriage.â€
Today Julia is happily married to her husband of 30 years and together they have 7 children. Julia is also an accomplished artist, having studied painting at the University of Houston and the Toronto Academy of Realist Art. She specializes in iconography, portraiture and landscape realism.
According to Mary Ellen Van Dyke, Executive Director of Right to Life of Southwest Indiana, “A large crowd is expected to stand together respectfully and prayerfully for the sanctity of life. This year with all the attacks against the sanctity of human life, conscience and religious freedom and the federal funding for abortions in Obamacare, many more are expected. Supporters of Life will hold signs that say, ‘Abortion is not Healthcare’, ‘Stop Abortion Now’, ‘Abortion Kills Children’, and ‘Adoption is a Loving Alternative’. All signs include prayers to be recited with the intention to end abortionâ€. The Life Chain follows a strict Code of Conduct, is peaceful, and urges all family members, young and old, to attend.
Right to Life of Southwest Indiana with 50,000 supporters, protects all life through education, services, and advocacy so that in both law and practice all human life is protected.

IS IT TRUE September 28, 2012
IS IT TRUE September 28, 2012
IS IT TRUE that Evansville survived as a community for nearly 200 years without the services of a Chief Financial Officer specifically dedicated to the Water & Sewer Utility?…in 2011 the Weinzapfel Administration recommended to the Utility Board that a CFO position be created to for the Water & Sewer Utility?…in a meeting of the Utility board in the summer of 2011 the position of CFO of the Water and Sewer Utility was approved by the Utility Board and subsequently included in the 2012 budget?…that it may just be unrelated circumstances but that the 2011 audit of the City of Evansville by the Indiana State Board of Accounts for the first time that any of our contacts can recall will be dealing with a DISCLAIMER OF OPINION associated with the findings?…in lay terms this means that this SBOA’s way of nicely saying that the financial records of the City of Evansville are in such an incomplete state of disarray that they cannot certify the 2011 audit?…this is due to one of the most amateurish mistakes that is even possible to make as the use of the “old†accounting system was ceased before getting the “new†one up and running?…that now the City of Evansville looks like that fool on the commercials that shows up to an IRS audit with a shoe box full of receipts?
IS IT TRUE the expectation is that the SBOA will post the 2011 City of Evansville audit on their website either late today (Friday) or Monday?…that the City County Observer will be checking on this hourly and will post either the audit or a link depending on the size of the file as soon as possible?…after the release of the 2011 City of Evansville audit it is time for the Evansville City Council to hold open public hearings so the taxpayers of Evansville can learn just how such a misguided decision came to be?…the CCO expects a circus of finger pointing from everyone even remotely attached to the MIPS project and the decision to shut down the old system before bringing it up?…in many cases it is not productive to brand a scarlet letter of failure onto anyone and we suspect that this was not a singular decision?…even if it was a singular decision there had to be an atmosphere of failure to oversee in the Weinzapfel Administration for this to have happened?…the bodies of oversight that should have been in place and protecting the taxpayers of Evansville from such a gross and basic error include the 2011 City Controller and staff, the Office of the Mayor, the Water and Sewer Board, and the Evansville City Council?…the collective performance under this group of governing bodies performed at the collective level of NERO FIDDLING WHILE ROME BURNED?…the real questions are what kind of an atmosphere enabled such gross oversight to happen, how did it get this way, and finally were any of the people who were involved covered by the City of Evansville’s Directors and Officers insurance policy that probably covers ERRORS AND OMISSIONS?
IS IT TRUE that this MIPSGATE fiasco has cost the City of Evansville money and may continue to well into the future if our bond rating is downgraded and our interest rates are raised?…such losses if they can be directly attributed to Directors or Officers may be at least partially recoverable by making an insurance claim?…that reproduction of this audit should that become necessary by SBOA mandate has been estimated by a qualified individual to be in the range of $250,000?
IS IT TRUE that Evansville City Councilman John Friend, CPA has been howling like a smashed cat for the City of Evansville to allocate funds to audit the IT Department?…promises have been made and promises have been broken but at this point good oversight of the IT Department is not in place?…it is alleged that customer service software that cost about $1 million, another software system called canapy at about $1.250 million and now, seemingly Munis at $1,030,000 plus the 200k per year on maintenance or so are failing to perform?…that is a total of $3.28 Million plus $200,000 per year that the City of Evansville is paying for but not getting services from?…it is time to get to the bottom of this with a public hearing that exposes the atmosphere and the people who have done this to our taxpayers and let the consequences be just?
IS IT TRUE that all of this is happening in a City that squandered $200,000 on a loan to an un-vetted company, built a $127 Million arena without a referendum *SNEGAL), rushed people out of the McCurdy to see start to decay from neglect, is on the verge of demolishing a building of considerable value, can mow or pick up drug addict needles from parks but wants to build new parks, and is about to learn according to a well placed mole that the Riverboat Money for 2012 will be lower than it has been by nearly $400,000?…that to any competent outside observer the City of Evansville looks like it is certifiably insane in the management of its financial matters and has been for a long long time?
University of Evansville Claims MVC Academic Award for the First Time
The University of Evansville has been recognized as the recipient of the 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award, which is given to the school whose student-athletes post the highest cumulative GPA.
Cross country runner Shelby Cron commented on the honor on behalf of the student-athletes. “This event really epitomizes all that we stand for as student-athletes. Although we are student-athletes, we are students first,†Cron said. “A lot of us know that we are going to graduate and we will not even try to become professional athletes. However, some of us will and some of us will succeed. We have proven that even as a small school, we can produce professional athletes.â€
“We are going to try to become doctors and try to become lawyers, and to be recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference as the best institution in the conference for academics is a bigger honor than any that we could receive in competition.â€
“Even though we are a small school, this shows that we are doing really big things. To be recognized lets people know that we are doing big things here and that we are making positive changes. For everyone to be recognized for all the hard work they are putting in is truly an honor.â€
Purple Aces’ student-athletes were honored at the Heritage Federal Credit Union Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast on Thursday morning. Commissioner Doug Elgin and Patty Viverito, Senior Associate Commissioner of the MVC, were on hand at the ceremony to present the award.
“This is an extraordinary honor for the University of Evansville, our athletic department, but most importantly – the student-athletes,†UE Athletics Director John Stanley said. “We are proud of the work that each and every one of them do on a daily basis in the classroom and on the field. This award proves what most of us have already known – that student-athletes at the University of Evansville are top notch people, students and athletes.”
Evansville’s 13 MVC sports and 214 student-athletes combined to post a grade point average of 3.284 for the 2011-12 school year. In the spring of 2012, an amazing 78.9% of UE’s student-athletes (169 out of 214) amassed a GPA of 3.0 or better while 45.3% (97/214) accumulated a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the spring semester.
“This award speaks well to Evansville; the faculty, the student-athletes and coaches. It is a tremendous achievement when you consider the quality of our schools across the board,†MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin said. “This was a tremendously uplifting event to see. To see the faculty, student-athlete and staff turnout was great. What an image it was to have all of those student-athletes up there on stage. It is what we’re about in the Missouri Valley.â€
“I am certainly proud of John Stanley, his staff and the entire university community for seeing this become a reality for Evansville,†Elgin continued. “It says a lot about the quality of academic here and the quality of the student-athlete experience. I could not be happier to be here at Evansville.â€
Just as impressive was the fact that 9.8% of the Aces’ student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA last spring. UE also had an extraordinary number of players garner Dean’s List honors as 118 made the dean’s list at least once last season while 61 did so for both semesters.
Senior Associate Athletics Director Sarah Solinsky, who oversees academic and student services for student-athletes was also proud of the award.
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and their ability to compete in the classroom in addition to their respective sports,†Solinsky said. “This award is shared with our faculty, academic support services, and coaches who are all vital in the student-athlete experience at UE.â€
Several Aces teams were honored throughout the year for their academic performance. The women’s swimming team posted a combined GPA of 3.56, which tied for the fifth-highest at the Division I level while the men’s team (3.10) tied for 30th.
With a 3.416 GPA, the UE men’s golf team earned its second-consecutive GCAA honor, which just 79 D-I teams received. Seniors Michael Sainz and Griffin Wood were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for their performances on the course and in the classroom.
Baseball received three honors as three players were selected as members of the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team. Trentt Copeland, Jason Hockemeyer and James Kohler received the honor.
Another who received an individual honor was men’s basketball player Colt Ryan. Ryan became the second UE player to be named as the MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012. Ryan had a 3.31 GPA while averaging 20.5 points per game in his junior campaign.
The UE volleyball team tallied a 3.618 GPA en route to AVCA team honors. It marked the eighth time in the last nine seasons that the team received those honors. As a freshman, Ashley Ring finished with a 3.971 GPA as an exercise science major. In cross country, both the men’s and women’s teams earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Award. It is given to teams whose GPA is 3.0 or higher with five team members competing in their respective regional championships. The women were 8th in the nation with a 3.65 while the men were 25th with a 3.41.
For the 17th-consecutive year, the Aces women’s tennis team garnered ITA honors. To be eligible, teams must have a combined GPA of 3.20 or higher with all players on the roster contributing to that total. On the individual side, five players were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes. To be named one, a player must be a sophomore in academic standing while being a varsity letterwinner and having a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Swimmer Colin Gray notched a perfect 4.0 in mathematics and was chosen as a member of the First Team Academic All-America Team. As a side note, the men’s swimming GPA’s did not factor into the MVC award since they compete in a separate conference.
The MVC All-Academic Award is in its tenth year of existence and is awarded to the school whose student-athletes combine for the highest GPA. The GPA totals include all student-athletes who compete, practice or receive athletic aid during the academic year.
