Reitz senior Samuel Tadros was notified recently that he is one of only 40 students from across the state to be selected by the Indianapolis Star and the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) as an Academic All-Star.

Tadros was one of 90 regional honorees that were selected from nominations from students’ individual schools. Once selected as a regional honoree, Tradros was eligible to be selected as one of 40 Academic All-Stars based on the his academic accomplishments, including grade point average, academic courses, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service and involvement.

LEADERSHIP EVANSVILLE HOSTS 18th ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LEADERSHIP AWARDS CEREMONY

0

On Tuesday, March 19, Leadership Evansville will honor and
celebrate 124 community individuals, businesses, organizations and projects for their
servant leadership at Celebration of Leadership (COL). The ceremony will be held at
5:30 p.m. at The Centre Ballroom in downtown Evansville.
A total of 39 awards will be presented to recipients who have shown exceptional
community and public service in the following categories: Arts, Education, Environment,
Government & Public Service, Health & Social Service and Neighborhood &
Community.
One individual will receive the prestigious Jefferson Award through a partnership with
the Evansville Courier & Press.
“The diversity of the Celebration of Leadership nominations demonstrates the incredible
passion and commitment to our citizens in making our community even better,”
Executive Director Lynn Miller Pease. “Watching COL and learning about all of the
incredible things people are doing helps inspire all of us to engage in our community to
make it a better place.”
The partnership between Leadership Evansville and the Evansville Courier & Press has
led to four Evansville recipients of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Awards for Public
Service in the past nine years, an accomplishment no other community in the United
States has achieved. The past Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis recipients include: Kathryn
Martin, 2007; Holly Dunn-Pendleton, 2006; Billy Bolin and Paul Kirby, 2005; and
Bridget McDaniel, 2003.
Members of the Evansville community demonstrate leadership every day, according to
Miller Pease. However, many of those individuals, businesses and organizations go
unrecognized. COL is one channel for all of these leaders to be recognized and
applauded for their actions to better our community.
The nominations are diverse, emotional and amazing stories of our community. They
range from a teacher changing her students’ lives at school but also after school, a young
man who spent the last months of his life dedicated to cancer research, community
leaders setting out to make Evansville a more beautiful place to live, a high school girl
focused on teaching other women self-defense, a library who sees technology growing
and wants to get people an opportunity to learn and grow with it. These are just
examples of all of the fantastic nominations that will be recognized at COL.
“COL is the academy awards for servant leadership,” said Miller Pease. “Recognizing
ordinary individuals for doing extraordinary things to make our community the best place
to live, work and play.”
Reservations are still being taken for COL. If you would like to attend, call the
Leadership Evansville office at 812-425-3828 or make an online reservation at
http://leadershipevansville.org/programs/celebration-of-leadership. Admission is
$15/adult, $5/student.

IS IT TRUE March 15, 2013

IS IT TRUE Indiana Senate Bill 343 is a bill written to do away with some of the inequities contained in the original statute permitting a merger of city and county governments?…SB343 requires a separate block of votes for each entity, and must be passed by 50%-55% of the voters in each block?… it also requires a detailed fiscal impact study be submitted to a department of local government finance at least 6 months before any election, and the legislative bodies of the reorganizing political subdivisions must prepare the reorganization plan, not a political appointed group of hacks?… SB343 is stalled in the house, and probably will not be given a hearing, unless we can apply some pressure to members of the Government Regulatory and Reform Committee, of which Wendy McNamara is a member?…you can contact Wendy at (317) 232 9671, or her secretary (317) 232 9705 and urge her to bring SB343 to a hearing?

IS IT TRUE the forensic audit of the Ford Center that was passed 7 – 2 over the objections of Council members Jonathan Weaver and Missy Mosby has now gone to the next step of disclosure?…the forensic audit will be concentrating on between 6 and 8 transactions that have rumors of overpayment surrounding them?…such rumors should easily be verified or debunked by a competent consultant in short order?…what may need to be allowed is for some competent consultant to expand their audit to areas that are not the subject of rumors?…if there was foul play in the finances of the Ford Center it is highly probable that the people involved would have covered their tracks to the best of their ability?…there may not be smoke or fire but there sure has been rampant belief that some nefarious transactions occurred?…the things that should also be looked at are the material or design issues that keep cropping up?…it is not a rumor that at least one of the glass panes in the Ford Center has come tumbling down?…it is not just a rumor that the bathroom situation with respect to the upper tier of the seating is just plain unacceptable?…it is not just a rumor that there is not sufficient storage in the Ford Center so a new building is proposed to be part of the downtown Convention Hotel project that still is not assured of ever happening?…while there may be no malfeasance associated with the Ford Center construction project, there is certainly a READY, FIRE, AIM design full of shortcomings that have surfaced since the Ford Center was opened?…if we were to make a prediction on the forensic audit it is that the auditor will find sloppy grammar school level financial oversight and shoddy accounting just like the day to day operation of the City of Evansville during the time when the Ford Center was being built?

IS IT TRUE in what may be the fastest conclave ever the College of Cardinals elected a new Pope to lead the Roman Catholic Church?…the new Pope is from Argentina making him the first Pope ever from the Western Hemisphere which seems like a good thing?…the new Pope also chose a name that had never ever been chosen before from the list of about 80 names that have been “approved” for a Pope to take?…being a native speaker of Spanish the Argentine Pope has chosen the name Pope Francisco or Francis after Saint Francis of Assisi?…the humble nature of Saint Francis of Assisi and the life’s history of Pope Francis is a positive attribute that seems to have been lost in the pomp and circumstance of opulence that the Vatican routinely puts forth?…the entire world needs to reform itself to that which is necessary, civil, and good?…the City County Observer welcomes Pope Francis and congratulates the College of Cardinals on rapidly making what looks to be the right man at the right time to lead?…if this Pope ever attains sainthood in his own language he will nearly be known as San Francisco?

IS IT TRUE the Democrat Party is all giddy in several national publications about a trial balloon of a new “DREAM TEAM” to run for the White House in 2016?…this DREAM TEAM is none other than wannabe President Hillary Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama?…this will make for some very interesting politics starting in two years?…the most interesting debate would be one between Hillary and Vice President Biden should he choose to seek the party nomination?…he had better be careful about laughing at Hillary or she may just toss a lamp at him?…in all fairness what these two ladies have had to put up with for their husbands ambitions may give them great credibility in the departments of tolerance, forgiveness, and collaboration?

Training for EFD Instructors is a “Life Saver”

0

EFD

Members of the Evansville Fire Department’s Training Division will go through a CPR Instructor’s course sponsored and hosted by American Medical Response (AMR). EFD Fire Instructors will learn the updated standards that have been established by the American Heart Association.

This instructor course will create at least five new CPR instructors to add to those the Fire Department already has in place. CPR standards have typically changed every four to five years. The latest standard changes have been associated with higher survival rates for victims of sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

EFD Instructors will then teach the updated standards to the 268 other members of the department as part of their annual recertification.

Training will be Friday March 15th at AMR’s facility, 950 E. Virginia Street in Evansville. A special time has been scheduled for Media for your convenience and continuity of the training.

The scheduled Media time is 8:00–8:30 am, at AMR, 950 E. Virginia St.

Warrick County – Thursday afternoon, March 14, at approximately 1:04 p.m., Senior Trooper John Puskas stopped the driver of a 2013 Jeep for traveling 105 mph on I-64 at the 40 mile-marker. The driver identified herself as Lynette Hubbard, 27, of Cincinnati, OH. Two passengers in the vehicle were identified as Talisha Hubbard, 30, of Covington, KY and Nathaniel Stillwell, 26, of Cincinnati, OH. During the traffic stop Trooper Puskas became suspicious that illegal drug activity was occurring and summoned for a state police K-9 unit. While walking around the exterior of the Jeep, Senior Trooper Brian LaRoche’s K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. When troopers searched the vehicle they found approximately one-pound of marijuana in the spare tire area. The bundle of marijuana was contained in shrink wrap, duct tape and dryer sheets. Further investigation revealed the marijuana belonged to Stillwell. A small amount of marijuana was located inside Talisha Hubbard’s pants. Stillwell and Talisha Hubbard were arrested and taken to the Warrick County Jail where they are currently being held on bond. The driver, Lynette Hubbard, was not arrested for possession of marijuana. She was cited for speeding and released.
