Dr. Bucshon Asks for Constituent Stories

 (Washington, D.C.) – Eighth District Congressman and heart surgeon, Dr. Larry Bucshon, recently launched a webpage for constituents to share their experiences and stories with the Affordable Care Act.

 “As we have seen over the past month, the consequences of the Affordable Care Act are widespread. Despite the President’s promise, Americans are receiving cancellation notices for plans they like, they are losing their current physician, and many cannot even access the website necessary to get coverage,” said Bucshon. “If you have a story, I want to hear from you.  Filling out the form is quick and easy and these stories are critical for me as I head back to Washington, D.C. to fight on behalf of my constituents.”

Bucshon has already received numerous accounts from people eager to have their voice heard.

Here are a few examples of these stories:

“They [insurance company] have informed me that the policy I have, that I have had for the past three years that I like and that fits my needs will no longer be available.”  – Nicole from Evansville, IN

 “Even after the subsidy we would still have to pay well over $500 per month.  We simply can’t afford it.” – Kim from Worthington, IN

 “The week of Oct. 1, the initial week of ObamaCare, I received my ‘Your policy has been eliminated effective Jan. 1, 2014 letter.’ …I have since chosen a new policy with them for next year at a higher premium and with higher copays and deductibles.    As Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Republican Party, I am calling a Republican Caucus to be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013. The purpose of the Caucus is to fill the vacancy of Center Township Trustee Advisory Board Member that is vacant due to Gary Burdsall being elected Center Township Trustee. The Republican Caucus will be held at The ROCK Church at 815 John St., Suite 160 (the same building as GOP HQ). The doors will be open at 5:30 PM and the Caucus will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. Both candidates for this office reside in Center Township, have completed the CEB-5 form and have submitted this information to Wayne Parke, Republican Party Chairman, prior to 6:00 PM on Monday, November 11, 2013, as required by election law. Only Center Township Precinct Committeemen will be allowed to vote to fill this position. The ONLY proxy allowed is the Vice-Precinct Committeeman who can vote in the absence of the Precinct Committeemen. At the Caucus, each candidate is permitted to have someone make a two minute nomination speech and the candidate will be given three minutes to tell the PCs why they are the best candidate.

Indiana State Police Lafayette Post Will Conduct D.U.I. Checkpoint

ISPOn the late evening of November 15th, the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post will conduct an enforcement check point targeting impaired drivers in Clinton County. A saturation patrol will be occurring before and after the checkpoint.

Motorists are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registrations available when entering the checkpoint. This will help minimize the amount of time spent at the checkpoint. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes.

“The goal of the checkpoint is to decrease the number of alcohol related crashes in the area.” Sergeant Dave Murray explains. “This will help in decreasing the number of crashes in a high crash zone area.”

Reminders so motorists do not find themselves “Over the Limit and Under Arrest”:

• Plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before consuming alcohol.
• Don’t drive your vehicle if you’ve been drinking alcohol. Call a taxi or a sober friend. A cab ride is cheaper than a D.U.I. arrest.
• Take care of your friends. Never let a friend drive while impaired. Take their keys.
• If you are hosting a party, always offer non-alcoholic beverages. Make sure all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
• Never provide alcohol to anyone under the legal drinking age of 21.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.

Website Shares Insurance Cancellation Letters Due to Obamacare

For Barack Obama, here’s a website that works a little too well: MyCancellation.com is posting cancellation letters from people who may have liked their health insurance but can’t keep it.

In little more than a week, the site has collected more than 400 letters – and attracted more than 10,000 Twitter followers.

The conservative group Independent Women’s Voice is behind the project. Its president and CEO, Heather Higgins, says it’s an effort to give voice to people on the losing end of Obamacare.

“This is just the first wave, and we wanted to give them a face and a place to tell their story,” Higgins said.

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences is proud to be recognized as one of the few Museums in the United States to tout the ownership of one of Picasso’s original works of art, an original, that experts say is extraordinarily unique in character and nature of Picasso’s techniques?…the Museum wishes to offer the work of art to any of Picasso’s admirers?… Experts indicate that the prize piece may command astounding offers of as high as $50 Million?…that the community should be excited and thrilled that in the fine art world Evansville is now on the radar?…that before this extraordinary piece of fine art departs the confines of the halls of the Evansville Museum, the citizens of Evansville should have the opportunity to view the Picasso masterpiece considering that the City has been such a major financial supporter of the new addition to the Museum?…the Mayor wants the city to donate $25,000 to the Museum so the Evansville Police Department personnel can provide security in order to allow such viewing?…that considering the large amount of money the city has already donated to the Evansville Museum for its past and most recent expansions, the cost of the security should be the responsibility of the Museum and not the taxpayers of this city?

IS IT TRUE for President Bill Clinton said yesterday that President Obama should change the healthcare law so that people can keep their existing health insurance plans?…Clinton said Obama should honor his promise that people could keep their plans under ObamaCare if they liked them?… Clinton said in an interview at OZY.com, “I personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, that the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they’ve got?” …President Clinton is the latest powerful Democrat to recognize the error in President Obama’s ways and the danger that digging one’s heels in to protect a lie poses to the Democrat Party going forward?

Feed the hungry and reduce your library fines during annual Food for Fines

EVPLHave you accrued fines on your Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library card that need to be paid off? November 18-December 15, you have the option of “paying” some of your overdue fines while helping to feed the hungry in our community.

 

During Food for Fines, your overdue fines will be reduced by $1 for each non-perishable food item you donate. The maximum amount waived is $10. Canned and boxed items will be accepted, and food donated will go to the Evansville Rescue Mission and Emergency Food Pantry Coalition.

 

Fees for Interlibrary Loan, lost or damaged items, or collection balances are not eligible to be waived.

Winter Driving Preparedness

ISPGovernor Pence has proclaimed November 17-23, 2013 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana.

To help Hoosiers prepare for this the Indiana State Police offers the following tips.

Be prepared:
 Before traveling, check the forecast and let someone know your travel route
 Keep your gas tank at least half-full
 Carry a winter driving kit that should include blankets, flashlight, extra batteries, a brightly colored cloth, sand (or kitty litter), shovel, candle, matches, non-perishable high calorie food, first aid kit, and jumper cables
 Have a cell phone and charger cord
 Slow down on snow/ice covered roads
 Allow extra time to arrive at your destination
 Clear all vehicle windows of ice and snow. Remove snow from hood, roof and lights.
 Use extra caution when driving across bridges, underpasses, shaded areas and intersections where ice is slow to melt
 Avoid abrupt stops and starts. Slow down gradually.

Should you become stranded:
 Don’t leave your car. It’s the best protection you have.
 Tie a brightly colored cloth to your antenna
 Roll down your window a small amount to allow fresh air in your vehicle
 Keep exhaust pipe free of blockage to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
 Don’t panic. An idling car uses approximately one gallon of gas per hour
