Indiana State Police Lafayette Post Will Conduct D.U.I. Checkpoint

0

ISPOn the late evening of November 15th, the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post will conduct an enforcement check point targeting impaired drivers in Clinton County. A saturation patrol will be occurring before and after the checkpoint.

Motorists are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registrations available when entering the checkpoint. This will help minimize the amount of time spent at the checkpoint. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes.

“The goal of the checkpoint is to decrease the number of alcohol related crashes in the area.” Sergeant Dave Murray explains. “This will help in decreasing the number of crashes in a high crash zone area.”

Reminders so motorists do not find themselves “Over the Limit and Under Arrest”:

• Plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before consuming alcohol.
• Don’t drive your vehicle if you’ve been drinking alcohol. Call a taxi or a sober friend. A cab ride is cheaper than a D.U.I. arrest.
• Take care of your friends. Never let a friend drive while impaired. Take their keys.
• If you are hosting a party, always offer non-alcoholic beverages. Make sure all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
• Never provide alcohol to anyone under the legal drinking age of 21.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.

AG Zoeller joins effort urging smart phone manufacturers to include anti-theft software

4

greg zoellerINDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller joined 30 other attorneys general today to urge leading smartphone manufacturers to step up security features on phones.

One in three thefts involves a mobile communications device in the U.S. and Consumer Reports estimates that 1.6 million Americans were victimized by smartphone thieves last year.

Zoeller recently joined the Secure our Smartphones (S.O.S.) Initiative which sent a letter today to Google/Motorola, Samsung and Microsoft. The S.O.S. Initiative is an international coalition of prosecutors, police chiefs, state and city comptrollers, and public safety activists.

“Smart phones are not only stolen for their resell value, but they also contain consumers’ personal and financial information,” Zoeller said. “Communities and law enforcement can’t cut down on this growing crime alone. That’s why state attorneys general are calling on manufacturers to install better anti-theft software which could wipe out thieves’ ability to make a profit or steal sensitive information.”

By joining the initiative, the attorneys general committed to press the smartphone industry to find an effective way to combat the rise in violent street crimes involving smartphone thefts.

Zoeller said one method discussed to dry up aftermarket phone sales includes installing a smartphone “kill switch” which could render a phone permanently useless if stolen. Currently, if a mobile device is reported stolen in the U.S. and no longer able to access domestic cell networks, the phone can still be reactivated to work in foreign countries.

To avoid having your information stolen along with your phone, the attorney general’s office recommends having password protection, backing-up your phone regularly, signing up for a tracking service and seeking out security software.

Zoeller said manufacturers have added some new anti-theft security features, but the response from manufacturers needs to be more robust. For example, some of the security features have an opt-out component or require consumers to pay for them.

(Washington, D.C.) – Eighth District Congressman and heart surgeon, Dr. Larry Bucshon, recently launched a webpage for constituents to share their experiences and stories with the Affordable Care Act.

“As we have seen over the past month, the consequences of the Affordable Care Act are widespread. Despite the President’s promise, Americans are receiving cancellation notices for plans they like, they are losing their current physician, and many cannot even access the website necessary to get coverage,” said Bucshon. “If you have a story, I want to hear from you.  Filling out the form is quick and easy and these stories are critical for me as I head back to Washington, D.C. to fight on behalf of my constituents.”

Bucshon has already received numerous accounts from people eager to have their voice heard.

Here are a few examples of these stories:

“They [insurance company] have informed me that the policy I have, that I have had for the past three years that I like and that fits my needs will no longer be available.”  – Nicole from Evansville, IN

“Even after the subsidy we would still have to pay well over $500 per month.  We simply can’t afford it.” – Kim from Worthington, IN

“The week of Oct. 1, the initial week of ObamaCare, I received my ‘Your policy has been eliminated effective Jan. 1, 2014 letter.’ …I have since chosen a new policy with them for next year at a higher premium and with higher copays and deductibles. I will also be losing one of my doctors who will no longer accept Anthem due to changes they have made in paying doctors.” – Marry from Evansville, IN

Constituents can share their story with Dr. Bucshon through the webpage at www.bucshon.house.gov/yourstory.

Bucshon is also expected to share a number of constituent healthcare stories on the House floor later this week.

Website Shares Insurance Cancellation Letters Due to Obamacare

For Barack Obama, here’s a website that works a little too well: MyCancellation.com is posting cancellation letters from people who may have liked their health insurance but can’t keep it.

In little more than a week, the site has collected more than 400 letters – and attracted more than 10,000 Twitter followers.

The conservative group Independent Women’s Voice is behind the project. Its president and CEO, Heather Higgins, says it’s an effort to give voice to people on the losing end of Obamacare.

“This is just the first wave, and we wanted to give them a face and a place to tell their story,” Higgins said.

You can read the growing list of letters on the following website:

IS IT TRUE November 12, 2013

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences is proud to be recognized as one of the few Museums in the United States to tout the ownership of one of Picasso’s original works of art, an original, that experts say is extraordinarily unique in character and nature of Picasso’s techniques?…the Museum wishes to offer the work of art to any of Picasso’s admirers?… Experts indicate that the prize piece may command astounding offers of as high as $50 Million?…that the community should be excited and thrilled that in the fine art world Evansville is now on the radar?…that before this extraordinary piece of fine art departs the confines of the halls of the Evansville Museum, the citizens of Evansville should have the opportunity to view the Picasso masterpiece considering that the City has been such a major financial supporter of the new addition to the Museum?…the Mayor wants the city to donate $25,000 to the Museum so the Evansville Police Department personnel can provide security in order to allow such viewing?…that considering the large amount of money the city has already donated to the Evansville Museum for its past and most recent expansions, the cost of the security should be the responsibility of the Museum and not the taxpayers of this city?

IS IT TRUE five former employees of Bernie Madoff are on trial in New York City for assisting their jailed boss in a ponzi scheme that allegedly stole $68 Billion from investors including Kevin Bacon and a rogue’s gallery of congressmen?…while lying to get money to do the things one wants ends in prosecution for a well dressed con man like Madoff and all of his accomplices, in the halls of government from cities, to the state, right up to the White House lying carries no penalty whatsoever?…whether a local politician and his cronies lie (or pay a consultant to lie for them) to get some temple to sport built, or a state level political appointee hands out a massive incentive package to a company that never creates the jobs contractually committed to, or if a President of the United States lies to further an agenda creating waste and harm in the process, IN GOVERNMENT THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY?…it makes one wonder how a population can be responsible and honest when the elected leaders are not?

IS IT TRUE for President Bill Clinton said yesterday that President Obama should change the healthcare law so that people can keep their existing health insurance plans?…Clinton said Obama should honor his promise that people could keep their plans under ObamaCare if they liked them?… Clinton said in an interview at OZY.com, “I personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, that the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they’ve got?” …President Clinton is the latest powerful Democrat to recognize the error in President Obama’s ways and the danger that digging one’s heels in to protect a lie poses to the Democrat Party going forward?

IS IT TRUE President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform has reached only about 3 percent of its enrollment target for 2014 in 12 U.S. states where new online health insurance marketplaces are mostly working smoothly, a report released on Monday said?…states with functioning exchanges have signed up 49,100 people compared with the 1.4 million people expected to be enrolled for 2014, according to the report by healthcare research and consultancy firm Avalere Health?…it is expected that the enrollment data for the other 38 states will be released by the Obama Administration later this week?…the technology guru brought in by the White House to add a touch of private sector competence badly needed by the healthcare.gov website that’s failures have made the Department of Health and Human Services look dumber than a 5th Grader has said in every way possible without calling the President a liar that the website will not be substantially functional by November 30th as the Obama Administration promised on October 25th?…the punch list of problems is longer now than when the smart guys came in?…that is a positive start because the President’s people were as clueless as a bunch of 100 year olds when it came to assessing the problems with the website?
