 Catch the latest edition of the “Indiana State Police Road Show” radio program every Monday morning at your convenience.

 

This week’s show features Kathy Haley, Indiana State Police Regional Manager for Region III Dispatch Center. Kathy discusses her new position as the Regional Manager and the responsibilities of an Indiana State Police dispatcher.

 

Download the program from the Network Indiana public websites at www.networkindiana.com.  Look for the state police logo on the main page and follow the download instructions. The ISP Road Show can also be viewed via YouTube.

The radio program was titled “Signal-10” in the early sixties when it was first started by two troopers in northern Indiana. The name was later changed to the “Indiana State Police Road Show” and is the longest continuously aired state police public service program in Indiana.

 

Radio stations across Indiana and the nation are invited to download and air for FREE this public service program sponsored by the Indiana State Police Alliance and Cops for Kids, a subsidiary of the Indiana State Police Alliance.

If you can read, thank a teacher!

This year or 20 years ago, did you have a favorite teacher? Was there a bus driver or school counselor who gave your family a smile when you needed it? Now through May 7, the Public Education Foundation of Evansville invites persons whose family, neighbors or selves have been helped by a teacher or school staff member to take a minute and say “thank you.”

With a small donation to PEF, parents, guardians or grandparents can thank a particular teacher or staff member, while also supporting PEF classroom grants.

To order a Thank-A-Teacher or Salute-A-Staffer card and gift, persons must submit the request to PEF by May 7. Mailing to the office at P O Box 1163, Evansville 47706, or signing up on-line with a thank you request are both possible. A personal thank you cards will be sent, with a cookie gift certificate, to honorees by May 17. The school principal will also be notified for the staff and teachers’ records. New this year is inclusion of a small gift from local bakery Piece of Cake, 201 Main Street.

Program proceeds fund local public school Excellence in Education grants, provided by PEF to teachers and schools each fall. On average, annually PEF awards $10,000 in Excellence in Education grants to 15-18 teachers and schools affecting more than 2,100 students each year. Nearly the same number of applications have to be turned down annually, due only to PEF’s lack of funds to meet all needs. Outside support to provide the best education resources for classrooms in local public schools grows each year, according to PEF research (citations available upon request).

Persons wishing to participate can access the Thank-A-Teacher and Salute-A-Staffer form through the “Donation” page at www.pefevansville.org or can send an
e-mail request to info@pefevansville.org. Or, again, mail a request to PEF at P O Box 1163, Evansville 47706. A donation of at least $10 is suggested. Donation amounts are confidential. The Thank You card and Piece of Cake gift will be sent to designated recipients within one week of receipt of donation.

The Public Education Foundation is a private not-for-profit agency that provides direct funding to local public schools and teachers for innovative, student-centered programs. For more than 28 years, from an office at 100 NW Second St, Evansville, the PEF board of directors have provided thousands of students with professional-level, hands-on experience via direct support for its signature projects such as the House Building Project, Summer Musical, Missoula Children’s Theatre and academic team competitions. Last year, PEF provided over $345,000 in program support, and direct teacher grants and student scholarships.

The Propeller Club is celebrating Maritime Day

The Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Evansville In, is celebrating Maritime Day 2015 May 23rd on the LST 325.

Touring the LST 325 will be FREE for everyone to tour from 10:00a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sponsored by the The Propeller Club of Evansville, IN.

The ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. at Marina Pointe tours will directly follow.

A local proclamation will be read by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke

State Representative Gail Riecken will present a certificate of recognition from the state.

BRICK CAMPAIGN FOR NEW DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY PRAYER GARDEN AT ST. MARY’S

Community members looking to leave their mark permanently outside of St. Mary’s Medical Center now have an opportunity to do so. St. Mary’s Health Foundation has started a brick campaign for the new Daughters of Charity Prayer Garden, which is currently under construction next to St. Mary’s Chapel and St. Mary’s Center for Advanced Medicine.

A gift of $100 will purchase a brick. The prayer garden is being built to recognize the legacy of the Daughters of Charity, who founded Evansville’s first hospital in 1872. The commemorative bricks will be installed and displayed in the garden. Bricks may be purchased in honor of a loved one or friend. Each individual brick size is 8.25 inches x 5.5 inches and can be inscribed with up to three lines of text with 14 characters per line, including spaces.

“A brick campaign provides a creative way for donors to honor the spirt of the Daughters of Charity. It was through their vision and foresight that our health system became a reality. Thanks to the Daughters, we look forward to our next 140 years of person-centered care to the community,” said Rick Peltier, Director of St. Mary’s Health Foundation.

TRI-STATE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY PROGRAM

TSGS Program Chair Person Barbara Manzi has announced that the program will feature Speaker Ray Mulesky – local author of “Thunder from a Clear Sky: Stovepipe Johnson’s Confederate Raid on Newburgh”.  His Program will be “The Day After: The Newburg Treason Trials following Adam Johnson’s Confederate Raid of July 18, 1862.  This proves to be a very interesting and informative program.  We encourage everyone to attend and learn about an important historical event.

 

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of most months.  Visitors are always welcome, feel free to share the surnames you are researching. We begin with a short business meeting followed by an informative program.

 

Except for the April Dinner, meetings are held in the Bayard Room on

the 2nd Floor (elevator provided) of Willard Library (corner of Lloyd Expressway & First Ave) in Evansville, IN.

Human Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery, in which human beings are controlled and exploited for profit.  It is tied as the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world, just behind the drug trade. The average age of entry for U.S. girls into commercial sex is 12-14. The average ages for boys is 11-13. Among people who get caught in the trade, the average age of death is 34 and the most common cause of death is homicide.

Come join Albion Fellows Bacon Center and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and learn how our community can help in the fight against this crime.   This free training is available to law enforcement, social service providers educators and the community.

Speakers include:

  • Abby Kuzma: Assistant Attorney General and Chief Counsel of the Victim Services and Outreach Division of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.
  • Skyler R. Whittington & Bill Hannon:  Indiana State Police Officers and members of IPATH.
  • Tracy McDaniel: Founder/CEO of Restored.
  • Rachel Van Tyle:  Attorney with the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic.
  • Kerry Blomquist: Legal Counsel for the Indiana Coalition against Domestic Violence.
  • Whitney Weir:  Child Advocate at Albion Fellows Bacon Center.
  • Yvonne Moore:  Collaborative Care Supervisor with the Department of Child Services.  Moore helped establish the anti-human trafficking advocacy group in Southern Indiana (IPATH).

These trainings are free and open to the public.  Six CEU’s and six LETB’s will be provided.
