IS IT TRUE we predict that Republican candidate Anna Hargis for City Council will give Anne Melcher all she wants in a heavy Democratic areas? Hargis is a bright, intelligent young professional?  She has demonstrated that she is also a very hard worker and an avid campaigner?  Normally this ward would be an automatic democratic seat, however,  Hargis has shown that she intends to make this a real competitive seat?  With the recent changes to the third ward district lines, we expect this race will turn into a real political dog fight?

IS IT TRUE don’t be surprise to hear that several independent candidates shall be filing for City Council offices in the near future?  After the closeness of some of the primary races,  several prospective candidates have contacted the CCO and seriously recruiting candidates for some of the positions?  Although Wayne Parke made a feeble effort to endorse Democratic candidates, that endorsement is what is spurring some democrats and republicans to look for independent candidates for some of these seats?  Some are also wondering if Parke will continue with his endorsement of Laura Windhorst or switch and endorse J.D. Strouth, the GOP candidate?

Governor Pence Statement on Passing of Donald C. “Danny” Danielson

Indianapolis – Governor Mike Pence today issued the following statement upon learning of the passing of Donald C. “Danny” Danielson, of New Castle.

“Karen and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend Danny Danielson, and we offer our deepest condolences to his beloved family and all who admired this remarkable man.

“In Danny Danielson’s passing, Indiana lost a great man who personified all that is best about the people of our state. He was the best of us, and I mark his passing with sadness but gratitude for having known this remarkable man of faith, family, community and civic involvement.”

Danielson devoted his life to service. He committed extensive time to Indiana University, serving on the university’s Board of Trustees from 1959 to 1980 and as chairman for eleven years. He led several key endowment campaigns for Indiana University including the School of Medicine Capital Campaign and the Wells Scholars Campaign committee. He was a long-time executive of City Securities, and he led a successful campaign to locate the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame Museum in New Castle. Danielson received a number of awards throughout his life including Indiana University’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award, the New Castle Chamber of Commerce’s “Citizen of the Year” award, and the state’s highest honor, the Sachem Award, from Governor Mitch Daniels.

Pence continued:

“Danny Danielson was a Hoosier through and through who loved his Lord, his wife Patty, his family, his hometown and Indiana University with a boundless heart. Danny’s influence on my small life began when I first stepped into politics in the 1980s and, like so many others he touched, his mentoring influence and example shaped my faith, my life and my career ever since.

“Upon the death of Abner, King David spoke words that are equally true of this day, ‘Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?’

“Karen and I pray that God will comfort his family and all who mourn his passing with the assurance that comes through our faith and the knowledge that the memory and example of Danny Danielson will live on and inspire all of us who were privileged to know him.”

Reitz Student Going to International Science Fair

Student Demonstration of Drone He Created That He Is Taking to International Science Fair
When: 9:45 a.m., Friday – May 8
Where: Reitz Bowl, behind Reitz High School

Background: Ryan Loehrlein, a Reitz senior, and his teacher, Nora Walsh, will be traveling to Pittsburgh for the International Science and Engineering Fair next week. Friday, Ryan will be doing a test flight in the Reitz Bowl of the drone that he designed, 3D printed and built for the science fair. He has attached cameras and sensors to the drone, and it was designed to partner with a SWAT team and send information back to a mobile command unit, cell phone, tablet or PC before the tactical team enters a building. The drone has the capability of being programmed with blue prints of a building so that it can fly the entire building on autopilot.

Ryan explains, “The Guardian Angel” (his drone) is run off of many software and coding systems. One key feature of the drone was to read blueprints so it can autonomously fly. The software it uses for the autonomous flight is NAZA MV2 Multirotor which uses a direct interface with NAZA MV2 Ground Station 4.0.11. These software are currently on the market, but Ryan adapted the program to allow it to fly on a single path without human interactions. This drone has many other key features. Some of these features are flying autonomously outside, flying “The Guardian Angel” from an iPad, computer, or the Spektrum DX9 transmitter. It also has the capability to lose 3 motors in flight and still maintain flight. The most advanced feature the drone has is to know exactly where it is in the air and self-land itself if there is an emergency scenario. He said, “The “Guardian Angel is currently one of the most advanced pieces of drone technology in the world currently.”

He explained that his motivation for the project was initiated by his family members. “My sister is a sheriff in Posey County and I originally was seeking a way to protect her in any situation. I eventually realized that I would be able to design and create a drone that would be able to do almost anything law enforcement agencies would need.” He said he eventually realized that the drone had applications wider than just keeping his sister safe.

Chumley: 11 month old, male American Staffordshire Terrier

I’m Chumley and the VHS took me from Animal Control to help them out when they were full so they don’t know anything about my back ground. But they do know that I’m a very active friendly young guy so I’ll need an active person who will spend time interacting with me every day for play and exercise. I’m not even a year old yet and will need you to be patient, consistent and realistic in your expectations of me and give me lots of positive reinforcement for my good behaviors. So if you have the time, energy, patience and love to include a young active guy like me in your life I can’t wait for us to meet!
