SENATOR BRAUN CALLS FOR FULL IMPEACHMENT TRIAL FOR SECRETARY MAYORKAS

0

WASHINGTON – Tonight, Senator Mike Braun spoke on the Senate floor to call for a full impeachment trial of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Reports are that Senate Democratic leadership are intending to table the impeachment motion this week to avoid a full trial.

Senator Braun said tonight that they are trying to “sweep this under the rug” to avoid talking about what President Joe Biden did to open the border in his first days in office, and the steps taken by Secretary Mayorkas to “catch-and-release” illegal aliens into the country.

Senator Braun will make a point of order during the proceedings that Secretary Mayorkas should, by rules of the Senate, be issued a summons on the impeachment charge of breaking the law by releasing illegal aliens into the United States.

Senator Braun previously called on Secretary Mayorkas to resign over the border crisis.

FULL REMARKS:

For Laken Riley, Ruby Garcia, and the countless Americans who have died from fentanyl, the Senate must hold a full impeachment trial of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Secretary Mayorkas is breaking the law every day he releases illegal immigrants into the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security is required under law to detain these immigrants.

Biden & Mayorkas’ catch-and-release policy releases illegal aliens into the U.S. without even issuing a notice to appear for immigration proceedings.

Secretary Mayorkas is the most important player in President Biden’s open borders agenda, but we must remember it’s the President that’s calling the shots.

President Biden took the actions that opened our border.

On day one, he personally stopped construction of the wall.

He alone signed the executive order to allow illegals to be counted in the Census to decide how large Congressional districts are. This is a direct attack on our most important democratic institution.

It was President Biden who ended the Remain in Mexico policy, leading to millions released into our communities.

It was a criminal coward who killed Laken Riley, but it was President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas who welcomed him into our country.

It was sanctuary city policies that kept him here.

Laken Riley’s death was a complete failure of our government to protect our citizens, and yet not one person has lost their job because of it.

It’s no wonder President Biden’s allies want to sweep this impeachment under the rug and break the rules of the Senate by failing to hold an impeachment trial.

Every Senator must stand up for the American people and vote down the motion to kill the impeachment trial.

The American people deserve to hear the truth of how President Joe Biden opened their country’s border to the world, and the American lives lost because of it.

I will be voting to hold a full impeachment trial of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

If a full trial does not happen, Secretary Mayorkas has clearly lost the faith of the American people to protect our borders and he should immediately resign.

And President Biden should be held accountable by the American public in November.

Gov. Holcomb to travel to Brazil, Mexico to target global growth in agbiosciences innovation, leadership

0

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb will lead an international economic development trip to Brazil and Mexico next week to cultivate innovation and growth of the agbioscience and agricultural economy. This marks the Governor’s second international economic development trip of 2024 and his first official visits to both Brazil and Mexico.

“Indiana agriculture and agbiosciences continues to be a catalyst for economic and community growth, contributing $58.1 billion annually to the state’s economy,” said Gov. Holcomb. “Brazil and Mexico both represent opportunities to collaborate and mutually advance trade, innovation and investment across the sector, spurring developments across food safety, security and sustainability that are critical to the global economy of the future.”

Gov. Holcomb and First Lady Janet Holcomb will depart Indianapolis on Friday, April 12, and return on Friday, April 19. They will be joined by representatives of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) as well as officials of the state’s agbiosciences and agriculture sector representing industry, innovation, workforce and economic development.

Brazil and Mexico, like Indiana, both share robust agbiosciences industries, advancing global services, products and solutions across agriculture, food production and animal health. Indiana trade between Brazil and Mexico topped $1.7 billion and $13.4 billion in 2023, respectively, and the state is already home to 14 Brazil-based and 13 Mexico-based business establishments.

In Brazil, Gov. Holcomb, First Lady Holcomb and the Indiana delegation will travel to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to build relationships and identify partnership opportunities across government, academia and industry. This year marks the 200-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Brazil, serving as an important backdrop to continue discussions between Indiana and Brazil.

The governor will meet with representatives of government, including U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Elizabeth Bagley, to discuss avenues to grow Indiana’s engagement with Brazil and with the state of São Paulo, which is the business capital of Brazil, the industrial center of Latin America and boasts the largest and most modern agbioscience system in the country.

The governor will also work to advance industry partnerships, trade and investment across the agbiosciences sector, meeting with business prospects and Brazil-based companies with Indiana operations, including São Paulo-based Solinftec. The digital agriculture company announced plans in 2018 to establish its U.S. headquarters in West Lafayette, creating 334 new jobs. The delegation will also pitch Indiana as a global sector leader to entrepreneurs, startups and industry executives at two business roundtables hosted by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP), the largest Brazilian industry association, and in partnership with Bayer, a global corporation focused on life sciences, health care and agriculture with operations in Granger, Indiana.

Gov. Holcomb and the delegation will also meet with representatives of Indiana-based companies with operations in Brazil, including Corteva, which moved its headquarters to Indianapolis in 2023, and Elanco, which is growing its Indiana operations with a new state-of-the-art global headquarters and campus on the westside of downtown Indianapolis. The Indiana delegation will also network with Brazilian and global leaders across government, academia and industry at a Friends of Indiana Reception hosted by Consul General Hodge.

In Brazil, Gov. Holcomb will be joined by Don Lamb, Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture; Mitch Frazier, CEO of AgriNovus Indiana; Dr. Alex Cochran, chief technology officer of DPH Biologicals; Courtney Kingery, CEO of Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Indiana Soybean Alliance; and Dr. Jerry Shively, associate dean for international programs for Purdue University College of Agriculture.

Gov. Holcomb and First Lady Holcomb will depart Brazil for Mexico on Wednesday, April 17. In Mexico City, the governor will meet with government officials, including U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar and Mexican Secretary of Economy Raquel Buenrostro, to explore opportunities to increase trade, advance innovation and grow two-way investment across agriculture, agbiosciences and broader economic opportunities.

The delegation will also meet with leadership and members of Mexican agriculture industry stakeholders, including the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico (AmCham Mexico) and a roundtable focused on meat processing, as well as university partners such as Indiana University’s Gateway Office, to highlight Indiana’s commitment to advancing global engagement and future-focused sectors. The delegation will also tour and meet with leadership from Atarraya, a Mexican company invested in Indiana which is revolutionizing the ability to grow sustainable shrimp protein.

In Mexico, Gov. Holcomb will be joined by representatives of the state and U.S. agbiosciences and agriculture sector, including Mitch Frazier, CEO of AgriNovus Indiana; Courtney Kingery, CEO of Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Indiana Soybean Alliance; Leonardo Chapula, marketing specialist at the U.S. Soybean Export Council; Doug Newcom, vice president of genetics and technology at the National Swine Registry; and Paul Siems, export sales manager at Weaver Popcorn.

Indiana is home to more than 1,050 foreign-owned business establishments, representing more than 40 countries and territories. In 2023, foreign-owned companies committed to investing $20.49 billion to locate or expand operations in Indiana – a 182% increase from 2022 and 71% of the IEDC’s total committed capital investment in 2023 – and create approximately 8,500 new Hoosier jobs.

This marks Gov. Holcomb’s 22nd international economic development trip as governor and his first official visits to Brazil and Mexico. The cost for the governor’s travel is being paid for through private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation.

UE BASEBALL RUN-RULES BUTLER, 15-5

0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After a slow start, the University of Evansville baseball team caught fire on Tuesday afternoon en route to a 15-5 run-rule victory over the homestanding Butler Bulldogs at Bulldog Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“Today wasn’t the prettiest performance we have had all year, especially early, but the guys found a way to grind out a nice road victory today,” said UE head coach Wes Carroll.  “Obviously, Kip Fougerousse had a monster day today in the middle of the order, and when he is going well, our offense can put up runs in a hurry.  But, we had a lot of guys step up with multi-hit games today, which was great to see.

“I also thought that we got some great outings on the mound from guys like Jace Kressin, Max Hansmann, and Jakob Meyer, which was huge.  We need those guys to pitch like they did today down the stretch, because if they can, we can really get rolling.”

Butler jumped out early with two runs in the first inning, before UE took advantage of some wildness from the Bulldogs to plate three runs in the top of the second inning on only one hit to grab a 3-2 lead.

The lead would be short-lived, as the first five Butler hitters in the second inning reached base, plating two runs and loading the bases with no one out to grab a 4-3 lead.  At that point, Kressin came out of the UE bullpen and recorded three-straight outs against the three, four and five-hole hitters in the Butler lineup to turn the tide and give Evansville the momentum.

The Purple Aces quickly retook the lead at 5-4 in the third inning on an RBI double by senior shortstop Simon Scherry and an RBI single by junior outfielder Harrison Taubert.  Evansville then added two more runs on a Scherry RBI single and a double-steal in which Scherry stole second, and freshman second baseman Brodie Peart stole home to move the lead to 7-4.

Butler would scratch across a run against Kressin in the fourth inning on a balk, but then sophomore reliever Max Hansmann came on with two men on and no one out, and got a strikeout and two infield ground outs to end the threat and keep UE in the lead at 7-5.

Fougerousse then added a solo home run in the sixth inning, before the Purple Aces erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to enact the mercy rule.  Taubert launched a three-run home run in the frame for UE, while Peart and graduate catcher Brendan Hord added RBI singles, and Scherry and graduate third baseman Brent Widder drove in runs on RBI ground outs.

Fougerousse led UE offensively by going 4-for-5 with a home run and four runs scored.  Taubert went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, while Scherry added two hits, three runs scored and three RBI.  Peart and Hord also had two-hit days for UE.

Kressin (1-0) earned the victory, the first in his Purple Aces’ career, by scattering a run on a hit in 2.0-plus innings of work, while striking out three.  Both Hansmann and Meyer each tossed 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings on the mound, while combining to strike out seven men out of the UE bullpen.

With the victory, Evansville improves to 15-17 overall, as the Purple Aces have now won five out of the last six contests.  Butler, meanwhile, drops to 13-17 overall with the loss.  Evansville will now return home to German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium to host red-hot Illinois State (17-11, 7-2 MVC) in a key Missouri Valley Conference series.  All three games can be heard live in the Tri-State area on 107.1 FM-WJPS and seen live on ESPN+.  Tickets are also available by calling the UE ticket office by phone at 812-488-2623.

USI Baseball falls at SLU Tuesday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball lost the first game of a four-game road swing, falling at Saint Louis University, 13-8, Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri. USI is 14-19 overall, SLU goes to 22-8.

The Screaming Eagles trailed 1-0 after two innings, but made their first comeback to tie the score, 1-1, on a RBI-double by senior first baseman Tucker Ebest (Austin, Texas) in the top of third. The tie was short lived as the Billikens scored a run in the bottom of the third to regain the lead and extended the margin to 5-1 with a three-run fourth.

USI climbed back into the game with a four-run sixth inning to tie the contest, 5-5. Junior third baseman Ricardo Van Grieken (Venezuela) singled in the second run of the game for USI, while junior second baseman Lane Crowden (Jackson, Missouri) tied the score for a second time with a three-run blast to left center. The home run was Crowden’s second of the season.

SLU took the momentum back in the bottom of the sixth, retaking the lead, 7-5, with a pair of tallies. The Billikens would extend the margin to 8-5 with another run in the bottom of the seven.

The eighth inning would seal the Eagles’ fate as the Billikens posted five runs for the final on a 13-5 decision.

USI junior right-hander Adam Weihe (Louisville, Kentucky) took the loss in relief for the Eagles. Weihe (0-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a hit batter in a third of an inning.
