Four juveniles arrested after causing damage at Harrison High School early Monday morning

Evansville Police arrested 4 juveniles on various charges after they entered a locked, fenced area at Harrison High School around 2:30 Monday morning.
Officers were called to the scene and located 4 juveniles inside the fenced area. Police believe the juveniles damaged 5 buses on the lot, entered the “tower building”, and broke a window on a building. Fire extinguishers had been taken from the buses and discharged. Other acts of vandalism had been committed and several items had been stolen.
The juveniles, 3 girls and 1 boy, were all between the ages of 12-14. All were released to their parents. They have all been referred to
Juvenile Court to faces charges stemming from this incident.

Two juveniles arrested in connection with several thefts from vehicles in North Park area

Evansville Police were called to the 400 block of Colonial Drive just after 1:00 Monday morning for a report of two people trying to get into parked cars.
Officers were already in the area due to other recent cases of theft from cars and were able to quickly locate the suspects. One of the suspects was taken into custody immediately, but the other suspect ran from officers. He was caught a few minutes later.
Both suspects were in possession of numerous items taken from several cars. Officers were able to return many of the items to the owners.
The suspects were 17 and 15 years old. They were both placed at the Youth Care Center. They both face theft charges.
The investigation into the prior thefts is ongoing. Investigators are trying to determine if the two suspects in these cases are connected to the other cases.

FINAL CCO COMMUNITY SERVICE WINNER IS BETTY HERMANN

This year’s final “OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE”  winner is former Vanderburgh County Councilwoman and former Vanderburgh County Recorder Betty Hermann.

Betty Hermann was first elected in 1984 to the Vanderburgh County Council where she served for eight years prior to being elected County Recorder. While she was recorder, Hermann implemented the office’s first computer system, began the process of imaging documents, and was the first to design a website to allow the public online access to the information about the office. All of these improvements were made without passing the costs onto county taxpayers. All improvements were funded from users fees.

In addition to her years in elected office, Hermann worked on numerous campaign committees, is a longtime precinct committeeman, former Vice Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Republican Party, former Secretary of the 8th District Republican Committee, former delegate to the Republican National Convention, and former Vice President of the Vanderburgh County Republican Federated Women’s Club.

Hermann’s public service began when she first worked in the Recorder’s Office in the late 1970’s. She later worked as a legal secretary in the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. She is a past member of the State Welfare Board where she served as secretary and vice president. She served on the board of the local March of Dimes Chapter, which named her Woman of the Year in 1998. She is also a longtime board member for Goodwill Industries.

When asked her to list her greatest accomplishments, Hermann lists her family. She along with Fred Hermann, her husband of sixty years, have five children, all of whom live in the Evansville area, fourteen grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

 The City-County Observer is excited to announce that our annual CCO “OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD” luncheon for 2015.will be held on October 26, 2015 at Tropicana-Evansville Walnut rooms A and B.? …this years winners of the “Outstanding Community Services Awards” are: Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kifer, well respected local attorney Joe Harrison, Jr, Indiana State Auditor Suzanne Crouch and former Vanderburgh County Sheriff and 8th District Congressmen Brad Ellsworth, Dr. Dan Adams, Dr Steven Becker MD, Tracy Zeller-President of Tracy Zeller Jewelry Holly Dunn-National Movation Speaker on Domestic Violence, Cheryl Musgrave who currently sits on the Vanderburgh County Board of Zoning Appeals and also is a Commissioner on the Evansville Redevelopment Commission and Betty Hermann.

Registration begins at 11:30 am, the event officially starts at 12 noon on October 26, 2015.  Deadline for registration is October 15, 2014.   The last five (5) events were sellouts.The City-County Observer is excited to announce our final “Outstanding Community Service Award” winner for 2015.  This year’s luncheon will be held at in the Walnut Room at Tropicana-Evansville. Eagles grounded by Rangers, 4-1

The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team allowed three first half goals and lost to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in Somers, Wisconsin. USI saw its record fall to 4-6-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while UW-Parkside rose to 4-8-1, 3-7-1 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles could not stop the Rangers’ offense in the first 20 minutes as UW-Parkside built a 3-0 lead with goals at 1:37, 21:42 and 22:44 of the opening half. UW-Parkside also outshot USI, 15-3, and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks during the first 45 minutes.

USI would strike quickly after halftime when freshman defender Olivia Wilde (Racine, Wisconsin) deposited a free kick from 35 yards into the back of the UW-Parkside goal, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The goal at 47:48 was Wilde’s third of the season.

The Rangers would answer the Eagles’ tally 12 minutes later with the final goal of the contest at 52:09, giving the match a final score of 4-1.

USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for its final regular season homestand of the 2015 campaign. The Eagles are slated to host Truman State University October 16 at 5 p.m. and Quincy University October 18 at noon for Senior Day.

 

 

Eagles Drop Close Match With Charleston

The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team dropped a close 5-4 match on the road against the University of Charleston this afternoon. The Eagles finish 1-1 in dual matches for their fall season. 

 

Charleston jumped out to an early lead taking two of the three doubles matches. Senior Elizabeth Wilm (Evansville, Indiana) and junior Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana) came away with an 8-2 victory at two doubles to keep USI alive. Wu and junior Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky) came away with late singles wins to even the match at four wins apiece. 

 

The deciding point came in the final match where Charleston got the point at number three singles in a third set tie-breaker. 

 

With just one more event in their fall season, the Eagles will be back in action October 28 for the annual Broomstick Classic at the USI Tennis Courts.

Eagles Get Narrow Second Place Finish at Oak Terrace

The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team finished second of 10 teams at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Oak Terrace Invitational.

 

The Eagles finished with a two-round total of 624 (311-313) narrowly defeating Lewis University by one stroke to take possession of second place after being tied with the Flyers after round one. The hosting University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons won by leading the event wire-to-wire beating USI by 16 strokes. 

Senior Anastasia Carter (Granger, Indiana) earned her second top-five finish of the fall by placing third with a two-round total 148 (76-72). Also finishing in the top 10 was senior Brittanie Garrison (Evansville, Indiana) in eighth with a 154 (77-77) shooting rounds of 77 both days and junior Allison Koester(Wadesville, Indiana) shot a 155 (73-82) to finish in a tie for ninth. 

 

The Eagles return to action next weekend, October 17-18, at the GLVC Fall Preview in Waterloo, Illinois at Annbriar Golf Course.Â
