‘BOLTS MAKE FORWARD GIANNI VITALI THEIR FIRST ROUND CHOICE FOR 2016-17 ROSTER

GENERAL MANAGER/HEAD COACH MARK CODY SELECTS 4-FORWARDS AND 3-DEFENSEMEN

Pointing toward the direction of their second season as members of the elite junior hockey league, the NA3HL in 2016-17, the Evansville Jr. ThunderBolts have selected a total of seven players in the League’s annual Entry Draft which was conducted this week.

Jr. ThunderBolts first-year General Manager/Head Coach Mark Cody presided over his first-ever Entry Draft, selecting four forwards and three defensemen through the eight rounds as the ‘Bolts new bench pilot continues the process of stockpiling his players’ roster for the upcoming season. Three of Cody’s first four picks were members of the blue line brigade.

Looking to inject more scoring punch and power into the lineup, the ‘Bolts made forward GIANNI VITALI their #1 pick. A goal-scoring cannoneer from Fox Motors 18UAAA, VITALI is expected to advance and enhance the club’s offensive might immensely. GM/Coach Cody amplifies on his first-ever draft choice. “Gianni is a big strong player who has an eye for the net. He will be counted on heavily to help score goals and improve our power play.”

THE JR. THUNDERBOLTS DRAFT PICKS (#2 THROUGH #8)

#2—JAKE SUTTON, DEFENSE, FOX MOTORS 18UAAA

CODY: “Jake while playing a strong defensive game, will also be able to help out in the offensive zone. He is

a good skater who sees the ice very well and will be counted on to lead the back end.”

#3—THOMAS BREAZEALE, DEFENSE, GRANDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

CODY: “Thomas is a smart defenseman who really loves to compete. He is a great puck mover and skater.”

#4—JOHN AMES, FORWARD, GABRIEL RICHARD HIGH SCHOOL

CODY: “John is a proven scorer with well over a point a game last season. He will be counted on to put up

numbers and has the ability and talent to be an outstanding power play player for us.”

#5—CAMERON NELSON, DEFENSE, COLUMBUS HIGH SCHOOL

CODY: “Cameron is a rather unique player. He is very responsible in his own end, making smart plays and

good first passes. He can also play the power play and is a very reliable all-around player.”

#6—RORY SCOTT, FORWARD, LEO LIONS HIGH SCHOOL

CODY: “I have watched Rory play for the last two seasons. He is a player who can put up numbers and play a

physical game. His style of play will fit in perfectly for the Bolts in this upcoming season.”

#7—CONNOR SHARRETT, FORWARD, HSE VARSITY HIGH SCHOOL

CODY: “Connor is a kid who wants to work hard and compete. He, too, is a point a game player and isn’t

afraid to go to the dirty areas of the ice to assure that he wins the puck battles.”

The Jr. ThunderBolts did not have an eighth round choice, having moved the pick to the St. Louis Jr. Blues.

Presently, the ‘Bolts have tendered three players for their upcoming 2016-17 NA3HL campaign, including defensemen ANDREW WARE and JEREMY ROSS along with forward KODY KIFER.

Once again, in the 2016-17 season, the Jr. ThunderBolts will compete in the NA3HL’s Midwest Division along with the defending divisional kingpins, the St. Louis Jr. Blues, as well as the Cincinnati Thunder, Nashville Jr. Predators and Peoria Mustangs. Rep. Larry Bucshon Recognized for Steadfast Commitment to Cardiothoracic Surgery

Legislator of the Year Award Honors Visionary Leadership And Outstanding Achievement

WASHINGTON, DC (June 14, 2016) – Congressman Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) was named “Legislator of the Year” by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons on Monday evening, in recognition for his extraordinary efforts promoting issues of importance to cardiothoracic surgeons.

“Rep. Bucshon has shown an unwavering commitment to defend cardiothoracic surgery in the face of significant regulatory challenges,” said Douglas J. Mathisen, MD, Chair of the STS Council on Health Policy and Relationships. “He is a champion for surgeons and patients alike. We are proud to acknowledge him with the inaugural award for his noteworthy work and dedication to cardiothoracic surgery.”

As one of only two cardiothoracic surgeons in Congress, Rep. Bucshon led the fight last year to ensure that language to prohibit the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) from unbundling global surgical payments was included in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).  Without Rep. Bucshon’s intervention, the CMS policy to eliminate global surgical payments would have been detrimental to beneficiary care, hindered efforts to improve and coordinate health care, and increased administrative burdens.

“It’s very important to be engaged, not only at the federal level, but also at the state and local levels,” said Rep. Bucshon. “The voices of surgeons in practice do matter, and people are listening. Without that engagement, our voices would not be heard. Trying to advance the goal of our specialty to ensure our continued ability to provide high quality medical care to our patients would be hampered without these efforts.”

Rep. Bucshon, a third-term representative from Indiana’s 8th Congressional district, is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, where he serves on the Health Subcommittee. Among his top legislative priorities is enacting true patient-centered health care reforms that protect the doctor-patient relationship.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Rep. Bucshon specialized in cardiothoracic surgery and performed hundreds of heart surgeries. He and his wife Kathryn reside in Indiana with their four children.

The STS Legislator of the Year Award acknowledges a person who has made sustained and/or extraordinary efforts in promoting issues of importance to cardiothoracic surgeons through legislation, successful defense of funding, or other legislation related to cardiothoracic surgery that supports STS’s mission and membership.

Judge Rejects State’s Appeal Bid In Deaf Litigant Case

0

Dave Stafford for www.theindianalawyer.com

A federal judge Friday rejected the state’s effort to appeal a ruling that a court discriminated against a deaf litigant, writing the bid was “a classic example of when an immediate appeal is not warranted.”

Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson denied an interlocutory appeal sought by the state, which represents defendant Marion Circuit Court. The state asked Magnus-Stinson to certify an appeal of her summary judgment motion in favor of Dustin King, who was denied an American Sign Language interpreter in court-ordered mediation program in his child-custody case.

Magnus-Stinson ruled in May that the denial of an interpreter for King was a violation of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and that the court failed to make a reasonable accommodation.

The state also asked the judge to stay the proceedings pending appeal of the judgment that found the courts in violation of the ADA. It argued in part that an appeal at this point would expedite the litigation. Magnus-Stinson disagreed.

“To resolve the remaining issue of damages, the parties have a settlement conference and a one-day bench trial. After that, Marion Circuit Court could appeal all the issues at the same time. Moreover, as
Mr. King asserts, the parties’ briefing schedule for an appeal would extend beyond the scheduled date of the bench trial, thus, prolonging the litigation. Accordingly, the Court rejects Marion Circuit Court’s argument that an immediate appeal would speed up the litigation,” Magnus-Stinson wrote.

The judge also disagreed with the state’s argument that the issues it sought to appeal were questions of law. The case is Dustin King v. Marion Circuit Court, 1:14-cv-1092.
