Women’s Tennis to Host UT Martin and Eastern Illinois

0

The University of Evansville Women’s Tennis Team (2-7, 0-0 MVC) will see their first home action of the season on Saturday when they host the University of Tennessee Martin at 4:30 p.m. CST and then will follow that up with a match against Eastern Illinois at 7:30 p.m. CST.  Both matches will be played at Tri-State Athletic Club.  The home action will wrap up a stretch of nine straight road matches for the Aces.

Head Coach Jayson Wiseman said, “Our team is very excited to finally get to host some matches on our home courts.  The traveling to play a number of very tough teams has been good to build mental toughness, but to play at home will be a welcome advantage. Despite the home court advantage we will have to be at the top of our game because both of this weekend’s opponents are very tough.  Hopefully we will get a nice crowd out to support us at Tri-State and create a positive home environment for our team”

UE is coming off a weekend where they played four matches in two days.  They saw action against IUPUI, Ball State, Findlay, and Wright State.  The Aces finished the weekend 1-3 with their victory coming over the Oilers of Findlay.  In the match against the Oilers, The Aces were able to win every match with the exception of flight one singles to secure the victory.

Kennedy Craig had a superb showing this past weekend when she was able to grab four wins in four matches for the Aces at flight five singles.  This puts Craig at a record of 6-3 during her current spring campaign.

The Skyhawks from Tennessee Martin come into the match against the Aces with a record of 0-6.  Most recently, they come off a match against East Tennessee State where they were defeated by a score of 4-0.  Eastern Illinois comes in with a record of 4-3 and boast wins over Butler, Western Illinois, St. Francis, and most recently, Chicago State.

The Aces will have some down time after this weekend with their next match coming on March 10th when they head to Macon, GA to take on Mercer.  Their next home match will come on March 13th when they host Southeast Missouri State.

Eagles rally to upset #9 Knights on Senior Night, 89-82 BOX SCORE (HTML)

0

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball rallied in the second half to defeat ninth-ranked Bellarmine University, 89-82, in overtime on Senior  Night Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI watched its record rise to 18-10 overall and 10-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine went to 22-5, 15-3 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles struggled out of the gate, shooting only 34.4 percent (11-32) in the first 20 minutes, and trailed at the intermission, 45-30. Freshman guard Alex Stein (Evansville, Indiana) had the best half for the Eagles, scoring 12 points on five-of-eight from the field and two-of-two from beyond the arc.

In the second half, a new Eagles squad emerged from the locker as the momentum swung completely in USI’s favor. USI, which shot 51.9 percent from the field in the second half (14-27), methodically chipped away at the 15-point halftime deficit with short bursts until the Eagles surged with an 18-6 run to tie the game at the end of regulation, 74-74, on a pair of free throws by junior guard Bobo Drummond (Peoria, Illinois).

USI junior forward T.J. Tisdell (Cape Girardeau, Missouri) and junior guard Jeril Taylor (Louisville, Kentucky) led the second half comeback with 12 points each. Tisdell was five-of-seven from the field in the second half and grabbed six boards, while Taylor was two-of-four from the field, including a pair of three-point field goals, and a clutch six-of-six from the line.

The Eagles’ offensive surge continued into the overtime period as USI doubled up the Knights, 15-8, in the extra five minutes. Tisdell led the Eagles to the victory in overtime with six points on a field goal and four-of-five free throws in the final 30 seconds, while grabbing five rebounds.

Overall, Tisdell posted his fourth-straight double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. He was six-of-11 from the field, seven-of-13 from the line. Ten of the 15 rebounds came on the offensive side of the court.

Four additional Eagles followed Tisdell in the scoring column with double-digits. Taylor finished the contest with 18 points, while Stein added four points in the second half for 16 points. Drummond and senior forward Shane Seniour (Newburgh, Indiana) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points and 12 points, respectively.

The Eagles start post-season play Sunday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Rockhurst University in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. Rockhurst finished the 2015-16 campaign 12-14, 7-11 GLVC, after falling to William Jewell College, 86-69, tonight in Kansas City, Missouri.
USI has a 15-1 all-time series lead over Rockhurst, 6-0 at the PAC, after the Eagles defeated the Hawks, 79-71, on January 7 in Kansas City. Taylor and Stein had 16 points and 15 points, respectively, in the victory.

IS IT TRUE FEBRUARY 26, 2016

25

IS IT TRUE we can’t wait to get our hands on the 2014 audit for the City of Evansville?  …we expect this audit be one heck of an interesting read?   … we can’t wait to see how Controller Russ Lloyd Jr is going to spin this audit in his favor?

IS IT TRUE a few of our readers are alleging  that a couple of CEO’s at their local not-for-profit organizations are making  well over one  (1) million dollars a year salary? …we are presently doing a web search to see if these allegations are correct? …it’s our strong opinion that no CEO of any local not-for profit should be paid over one million yearly salary?

IS IT TRUE many of our readers are telling us that a candidate for District 77 State Representative stepped over the line at Monday night City Council meeting? …our readers are upset that Ryan Hatfield violated City Council rules by a giving a campaign position speech during City Council meeting? …that Dr. Dan Adams and Connie Robinson were right to call Mr. Hatfield to task for giving a political campaign speech at Monday  night City Council meeting? …we hope that Council President Mosby will allow everyone running for District 77 State Representative seat to speak about the recently amended “Gays Rights” ordinance recently passed by Council?

IS IT TRUE Jenny Collins came before City Council to have them approve an ordinance change concerning  fees?  … she didn’t need Councils approval to charge the fees since they have already been approved by the IURC?  …we predict that the Water and Sewer Board will quietly slide the fee adjustment request under the radar?  … we predict that Ms. Collins will find a way to charge us the “turn on and shut off” fees even without Council’s approval?

IS IT TRUE that in the 2011 budget of the City Controller for the City of Evansville was $85,926?  …when Jenny Collins moved to the Water and Sewer Department she was paid $83,000 year without a car provided?  …her current salary with the Water and Sewer Department is $89,833.24?

IS IT TRUE we notice that City Council persons Jonathan Weaver and Missy Mosby are displaying large cups advertising TUCKER REALITY during City Council meetings?  …we understand  there isn’t a city ordinance addressing the advertising of a business during city council meetings?  …we believe that Weaver and Mosby advertising their place of business during a City Council  meeting is not only unacceptable but is a classless and self serving act?

IS IT TRUE we hear that a democratic member of City Council is quietly telling people that they are supporting Governor Pence re-election effort?

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that many rank and file Democrats are upset with Missy Mosby and Jonathon Weaver for picking Republican Dan McGinn to head the City Council Finance Committee?  …they are also extremely upset that they selected an extreme right wing conservative Republican to be the Democratic controlled legal counsel?
