JONATHAN Â WEAVER OUSTED FROM LEADERSHIP ROLE BY NEW COMER JUSTIN ELPERS
JUST IN:  At tonights City Council 2017 reorganization meeting a political bombshell was presented to Jonathan Weaver (D) Councilman at Large.
Firth Ward City Councilman Justin Elpers (R) outed former Vice President Weaver by a 6 to 3 vote  Prior to the vote 3rd Ward and newly re-elected City Council President Missy Mosby (D) and Finance Chairman and 6th Ward Councilman Dan McGinn gave a passionate plea to persuade Council members to vote to re-elect Mr. Weaver Vice President of City Council.  Their plea failed on deaf ears.
Newly elected City Council Vice President Justin Elpers has established himself as the leading conservative voice on City Council.  He is also known as an independent thinker.
This is a developing story.
IS IT TRUE that our 8th District House of Representatives member Larry Bucshon participated in the secret vote last week to gut the independent ethics committee of it’s powers?…this vote was taken in secret with a very small number of house members voting but it actually passed?…after learning of this President Elect Donald Trump joined a large number of Democrats in condemning such an action as being against the principle of transparency?…the Republicans in the House of Representatives did see the error of their ways and eventually dropped this like a hot potato?…Representative Bucshon however has never let his constituents know how he voted?…that in itself is a testament to secrecy and is inconsistent with am open door policy?…we can safely assume since The Honorable Representative Bucshon did not let us know how he voted that there is a very high probability that he voted against ethical oversight and transparency?…this is deeply disappointing?
IS IT TRUE this act by Mr. Bucshon reminded us of a time in 2009 when former Mayor Weinzapfel corralled his cronies into secretly voting to take away the Homestead tax credit from the homeowners of Vanderburgh County?…this meeting was what led to the fall of the former Mayor and paved the way for the crisis within the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party that put a Republican in the Mayors office?…one would think that politicians would learn from past mistakes but in Larry Bucshon’s case it doesn’t look like he learned a thing from the failures of the sneaky move that former Mayor Weinzapfel made?…on the bright side, that closed door sneak feat was the birth of SNEGAL?
IS IT TRUE we wonder if Congressman Larry Bucshon and his family spent time at his condo in Newburgh during the Holidays?  …or did Mr. Bucshon and his family spent the Holidays at his multi-million home  in a Washington, D C suburb?  …this situation reminds us of another Indiana politician that had a condo in his home District and an expensive family home in Washington, DC?
IS IT TRUE there is now another plan being hatched to move the nursing students from IVY Tech to the forthcoming downtown Medical Campus?…while this may serve some agenda to get more bodies packed into downtown Evansville during the day, it will also create an underutilization at what is very new IVY Tech campus on the north side?…these students will not have their learning experience enhanced one bit by this move but they will incur the expenses associated with parking and the hassles that downtown is famous for?…moving these nursing students won’t create any jobs just like moving from Roberts Stadium to Ford Center didn’t?…moving is just moving and it seems as though all one needs to do to forget such a simple reality is get elected to office?
IS IT TRUE we are please to remind you that this year is the 50th anniversary of the North High School Indiana State Basketball Championship?…that was when a championship was really an overall championship and not just a class championship?…it is also the 25th anniversary of the fall of the USSR?…we all need to examine why that happened?
IS IT TRUE don’t be surprised to read that the Evansville City Council and the Vanderburgh County Commission will have some adjustments in leadership positions for 2017?
FOOTNOTE: Â Today “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that current Vanderburgh County GOP Party Chairman Wayne Parke should run for re-election?

Former CBS News anchor and host for 60 Minutes Dan Rather is heading into the classroom to teach a journalism course at UDemy, an online education platform. The course will be called “finding the truth in the news†(via Joe Concha/The Hill):
Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather has been tapped to teach an online journalism course called “Finding the truth in the news.â€
The course is being offered by the e-learning platform UDemy, which hosts more than 42,000 online courses.
“Whether you’re an avid consumer of the news or just beginning your journalism career, renowned news anchor Dan Rather shares his first-hand experiences to guide you through the 21st century state of journalism,†the course description reads.
“Dan’s rich history and extensive knowledge of journalism, paired with practical, hands-on exercises, creates a unique learning opportunity and rare insight from an American legend.â€
It’s a tad ironic since Rather plunged his former network in a scandal regarding the authenticity of memos written by Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian, former President George W. Bush’s squad commander in the Texas Air National Guard. The contents of these documents reportedly put the president’s service in a negative light, though experts disregarded them as fakes. This segment questioning Bush’s National Guard service aired during the 2004 election. CBS subsequently apologized for using them. Hot Air’s Allahpundit was part of the group of writers that initially questioned the veracity Killian documents.
Via Associated Press c. 2004:
CBS News apologized Monday for a “mistake in judgment†in its story questioning President Bush’s National Guard service, claiming it was misled by the source of documents that several experts have dismissed as fakes.
It also has become an issue in the presidential campaign. The White House said the affair raises questions about the connections between CBS’s source, retired Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, and Democrat John Kerry’s campaign.
Rather joined CBS News President Andrew Heyward in issuing an apology Monday.
“We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry,†Rather said. “It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.â€
Almost immediately after the story aired Sept. 8, document experts questioned memos purportedly written by Bush’s late squadron leader, Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian, saying they appeared to have been created on a computer and not on the kind of typewriter in use during the 1970s.
CBS strongly defended its story. It wasn’t until a week later — after Killian’s former secretary said she believed the memos were fake — that the news division admitted they were questionable.
Burkett admitted this weekend to CBS that he lied about obtaining the documents from another former National Guard member, the network said. CBS hasn’t been able to conclusively tell how he got them, or even definitely tell whether they’re fakes or not. But the network has given up trying to defend them.
The fallout was a disaster for CBS, who fired producer Mary Mapes and led to Rather’s retirement and departure from the network entirely soon afterwards.
