IS IT TRUE JANUARY 9, 2017

10

IS IT TRUE that our 8th District House of Representatives member Larry Bucshon participated in the secret vote last week to gut the independent ethics committee of it’s powers?…this vote was taken in secret with a very small number of house members voting but it actually passed?…after learning of this President Elect Donald Trump joined a large number of Democrats in condemning such an action as being against the principle of transparency?…the Republicans in the House of Representatives did see the error of their ways and eventually dropped this like a hot potato?…Representative Bucshon however has never let his constituents know how he voted?…that in itself is a testament to secrecy and is inconsistent with am open door policy?…we can safely assume since The Honorable Representative Bucshon did not let us know how he voted that there is a very high probability that he voted against ethical oversight and transparency?…this is deeply disappointing?

IS IT TRUE this act by Mr. Bucshon reminded us of a time in 2009 when former Mayor Weinzapfel corralled his cronies into secretly voting to take away the Homestead tax credit from the homeowners of Vanderburgh County?…this meeting was what led to the fall of the former Mayor and paved the way for the crisis within the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party that put a Republican in the Mayors office?…one would think that politicians would learn from past mistakes but in Larry Bucshon’s case it doesn’t look like he learned a thing from the failures of the sneaky move that former Mayor Weinzapfel made?…on the bright side, that closed door sneak feat was the birth of SNEGAL?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if Congressman Larry Bucshon and his family spent time at his condo in Newburgh during the Holidays?  …or did Mr. Bucshon and his family spent the Holidays at his multi-million home  in a Washington, D C suburb?  …this situation reminds us of another Indiana politician that had a condo in his home District and an expensive family home in Washington, DC?

IS IT TRUE there is now another plan being hatched to move the nursing students from IVY Tech to the forthcoming downtown Medical Campus?…while this may serve some agenda to get more bodies packed into downtown Evansville during the day, it will also create an underutilization at what is very new IVY Tech campus on the north side?…these students will not have their learning experience enhanced one bit by this move but they will incur the expenses associated with parking and the hassles that downtown is famous for?…moving these nursing students won’t create any jobs just like moving from Roberts Stadium to Ford Center didn’t?…moving is just moving and it seems as though all one needs to do to forget such a simple reality is get elected to office?

IS IT TRUE we are please to remind you that this year is the 50th anniversary of the North High School Indiana State Basketball Championship?…that was when a championship was really an overall championship and not just a class championship?…it is also the 25th anniversary of the fall of the USSR?…we all need to examine why that happened?

IS IT TRUE don’t be surprised to read that the Evansville City Council and the Vanderburgh County Commission will have some adjustments in leadership positions for 2017?

FOOTNOTE:  Today “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that current Vanderburgh County GOP Party Chairman Wayne Parke should run for re-election?

  1. Actually, CCO administrators, whoever you are, Dr. Bucshon probably knows where his condo is and it’s address, unlike Bayh the lobbyist. Don’t forget when Indiana Republicans chose their candidate for the senate in 2010, the Virginia resident they chose couldn’t vote for himself in the primary because he didn’t even have a shadow residence in Indiana. Dr. Bucshon isn’t known for his independence and will pretty much do as the party leaders say, whereas John Hostettler, whom we replaced with a pretty Vectren lobbyist, was castigated for not towing the line on the Iraq war vote by Repubs and Dems alike. But, as it turned out, he was right and we still have Americans dying there 15 years later.

But comparing Dr. Bucshon to Mayor Weinzapfel? That is a truly remarkable stretch of reality, even for you. Drive down MLK and view his legacy.

  2. Seldom Seen Larry Bucshon is the 8th’s worst congressman in memory. Hasn’t done a single thing except what his party’s leadership demands of him. He did apparently groundhog up long enough to be complicit in the aborted attempt to eviscerate the already effectively neutered ethics oversight machinery in the house. Another of his fine moments as a congressman that he refuses to talk to his employers about. To call him ‘The Honorable Representative Bucshon’ does further damage to the word ‘honor’. It can only take so many hits before it means nothing at all. It is how words lose all meaning. Nothing honorable about him. He is a Russian nesting doll, perhaps suitable as a bowling pin but not a congressman.

These folks get in office and just sit there, taking a big salary for doing absolutely nothing. Seldom Seen should be cashiered the very next time his big bald one pops up begging for your vote. He is a disgrace.

  3. I called Larry’s office and his staff could not tell me how he voted. This act is not off the table but merely sidelined for future action.

  4. RE: Adjustments in Leadership Positions (City Council)

I would like to see Connie Robinson return as President of the Council, if she is willing.

I find it insulting that the citizens have to weather Mosby and Weaver as council members, while they are working at F.C. Tucker Realty for the Mayor’s wife. This is especially egregious for Missy Mosby, to serve as the Council President while working for the Mayor’s wife.

Also, Weaver being voted to serve on the Land Bank Board, and he is a realtor who could potentially sell some of the land (empty lots after demolition) owned by the Land Bank. Nope, I see no conflict of interest in any of this . . .
