TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – In her regular-season finale as a member of the University of Evansville women’s golf team, senior Kayla Katterhenry took top honors at the Indiana State Spring Invitational at the Country Club of Terre Haute on Monday.
Katterhenry shot a 2-under 70 in Monday’s final round to finish with a score of 145, four ahead of her nearest competition. The victory came in a competitive field that featured four other Missouri Valley Conference programs. It is also a nice finish to the spring regular season slate as the conference championship is up next from Sunday through next Tuesday.
Second on the squad was Maggie Camp. She made a nice jump from her opening round tally, improving by eight strokes. After notching an 82 on Sunday, Camp carded a 74 on Monday to tally a 156 for the event, tying for 13th.
Next up was Giulia Mallmann. Her final-round score of 85 gave her a score of 165, tying her for 43rd. Madison Chaney was two behind Mallmann, finishing with a 167. She carded an 86 in the last round. Maria Pickens saw a 5-stroke improvement in day two, posting an 84 on her way to a 173.
Lexie Sollmann posted a 2-round total of 162 as an individual, coming home in a tie for 33rd. Her rounds checked in at 82 and 80. Carly Waggoner was UE’s other individual, posting a 181.
Evansville took 6th place in the tournament with a tally of 631, just three behind 5th-place Drake. Indiana State took top team honors in a dominating way, registering a 286 in the last round. It was the only team score in either day to check in under a 307. They won by eight shots over Western Illinois.

Lambert and Hay earn weekly MVC honors
Aces duo led UE to sweep over DrakeÂ
Morgan Lambert and Brittany Hay earned weekly Missouri Valley Conference awards on Monday in an announcement by the league.
Lambert was named the league’s Player of the Week while Hay garnered Newcomer of the Week accolades.
“Morgan had some clutch hits for us this week driving in runs; she has been one of our best hitters over the last three seasons and this is a great honor for her,†UE head coach Mat Mundell said. “Brittany had one of the best conference offensive series that I have ever seen. When she goes, our offense goes.â€
An amazing week of play saw UE senior Morgan Lambert bat .500, going 9-18 with two home runs, 9 RBI and four runs scored. She reached base 52.6% of the time while slugging .944. She got off to a quick start against Austin Peay on Wednesday, going 2-4 with a home run and four RBI. She also scored two runs in a 10-7 victory.
In the doubleheader finale, she went 1-3. Lambert went 1-4 in the first game at Drake before registering a perfect 3-3 performance from the plate in game two. That effort included a double and home run. On Sunday, she helped the Aces pick up the sweep with a 2-4 offensive day with three RBI, a walk and a run scored. She notched her second double of the week.
Aces junior Brittany Hay batted .474 as she went 9-19 with a home run, three RBI and four doubles against Austin Peay and Drake. One of the top run producers in the MVC got the job done once again, scoring nine times over the last week of play. All of her damage came against the Bulldogs in an unbelievable performance that saw UE pick up the road sweep. In game one versus the Bulldogs, she went 3-4 with three runs scored and a walk as UE picked up an 8-2 victory.
Hay came right back in game two with a 2-3 day at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored as she belted a home run and a double. Sunday’s 13-5 win saw Hay erupt for a career-high four hits in five plate appearances. She crossed the plate three more times.

USI’s Leonhardt earns third GLVC weekly honor
University of Southern Indiana freshman hurler Jennifer Leonhardt (Louisville, Kentucky) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week in an announcement by the league office Monday.
Earning her third honor of the year, Leonhardt played a pivotal part in helping the No. 10 Screaming Eagles post a 5-1 record this past week, including a doubleheader sweep of No. 14 University of Indianapolis.
For the week, Leonhardt (20-1) went 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA and a .211 opponent batting average. She struck out 25 batters in 25.2 innings of work as she became the first 20-game winner since Brooke Harmening in 2015.
Leonhardt, who is 20-1 on the year with a 1.16 ERA, needs just five wins to tie USI Hall of Fame member Amy Stetler’s single-season record of 25, set in 1998. She also is just three shutouts shy of Stetler’s mark of 13, also set in 1998.
USI (34-8, 13-5 GLVC), which has had either a player or pitcher recognized with a GLVC weekly honor in each of the last five weeks, returns to action Friday at noon when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the USI Softball Field.
The Eagles, who have had a GLVC Pitcher or Player of the Week in seven of the last eight weeks, continue their 10-game homestand with a doubleheader against Lewis University Saturday at noon.
