We hope that today IT TRUE will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address rationally and responsibly.
City-County Observer Comment Policy: Be kind to people. No personal attacks or harassment will not be tolerated and shall be removed from our site.
We understand that sometimes people don’t always agree and discussions may become a little heated. The use of offensive language and/or insults against commenters will not be tolerated and will be removed from our site.
IS IT TRUE that Evansville, Indiana is facing major financial challenges? …that Evansville’s current combined debt load is guestimated to be over one billion and three hundred million dollars and increasing daily? …that Evansville is also facing a massive increase in bond debt because of numerous unfinished and projected big-ticket capital projects? …that to finish the massive Water and Sewer projects, make needed repairs and improvements to city parks, repair and repave our crumbling city streets and sidewalks, finish building Roberts Park, and add the massive costs of the projected renovation of the downtown “E-REP Riverfront” project combined guesstimated of several billions of dollars?
IS IT TRUE that around a year ago members of the Evansville City Council agreed to sell the naming rights of 24 city streets to raise 9 million dollars to pay for renovations costs at the Ford Center?  …that we been told that not one naming rights to any of the 24 City Streets were sold?  …we wonder where members of the City Council got the 9 million dollars to make needed repairs on the FORD CENTER?
IS IT TRUE that if politicians cut budgets as well as they cut ribbons we would have a balanced budget?

IS IT TRUE that we have been told that the WESTSIDE NUT CLUB  donated to the Evansville Fire Department an impressive sum of money to purchase special firefighting tools and equipment?  …that we look forward to attending a presentation ceremony so we can publicly recognize the genius donation given to the Evansville Fire Department by members of the WESTSIDE NUT CLUB?
IS IT TRUE that we are told that it might be extremely wise for the powers that be to conduct a review of the bidding process at the Evansville Water and Sewer Treatment Department?
IS IT TRUE.that every elected Evansville City Council member with Evansville Mayor Terry’s support and Vanderburgh County Commission members Justin Elpers and Mike Goebel (without Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave’s support} voted to give E-Rep $300,000 each this year without receiving a detailed explanation of what the grant money will be used for?  …that it looks like most locally elected officials may have forgotten that they are considered “Stewards of The PUBLIC TRUST and not “Stewards of Special Interest” groups?
IS IT TRUE that many people wonder why Mayor Terry and the President of the Vanderburgh County Commissioner Justin Elpers strongly supported giving E-REP a $300,000 grant without receiving a detailed explanation of how E-REP will spend the grant money? …could the answer be that they both currently serve on the E-REP Executive Board Of Directors and gave into peer pressure?

IS IT TRUE that Republican gubernatorial candidate and current Indiana Senator Mike Braun was overheard telling Johnny Kincaid, “You and the CCO Publisher need to keep reporting the truth?” …that United States Senator Mike Braun will soon sit down with Johnny Kincaid for a one-on-one interview on his City-County OBSERVER spooned podcast show?

IS IT TRUE that we have been told that the current leadership within the Vanderburgh County Republican Party was the subject of many interesting conversations at the recent Indiana GOP Convention in Indianapolis? …that several Vanderburgh County delegates heard many less than complimentary comments about the controversy at the Vanderburgh County GOP?…that we are told that many local conservative Republicans are extremely upset about the punitive actions taken by GOP Chairman, Mike Duckworth against three (3) members of the local GOP?  …that we are also told that Chairman Duckworth punitive actions against three (3) Republicans may have been a rallying call for local conservative Republicans to join forces to take back their party?  … it looks like the days of the GOP “RINOS” controlling the local GOP may be coming to an abrupt end?

IS IT TRUE that the government shouldn’t do for people what people can do for themself?

EPD Detectives Shared Lead Information Resulting in Bank Robbery Arrests

JUNE 18, 2024

In August of 2023, Evansville’s Indiana Members Credit Union was robbed by an unidentified male.

Once he secured money, he fled to an awaiting car nearby. Evansville detectives identified a potential suspect vehicle after a neighborhood canvas which included reviews of residential, commercial, and law enforcement (FLOCK) camera footage. This lead information was distributed via law enforcement information-sharing databases. Due to the nature of the robbery, EPD also sought assistance from the Federal Bureau of
Investigations (FBI).

Approximately three months later a second bank, in Tennessee, was robbed under similar circumstances. Using EPD’s lead information and information gathered during their investigation, Tennessee investigators were able to identify two persons of interest in their robbery. In May of this year, a third bank robbery occurred in Kentucky, with the MO being the same as the previous two bank robberies.

With the help of multiple agencies and information gathered/shared, on June 13th search warrants and arrest warrants were executed at a residence in Tennessee. Market Wynn (25) and Stephen Hampton (25) were arrested for the bank robbery that occurred in Kentucky; they are presumed to be the same suspects in the bank robberies that occurred in Indiana and Tennessee.

These arrests come after nearly a year-long joint investigation between the Evansville Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Kentucky State Police, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Manchester Police Department (TN), Metro Nashville Police Department (TN), Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, and Lexington Police Department (KY). As of now Wynn and Hampton have been arrested for the bank robbery that occurred in Kentucky and are likely the same suspects to have robbed Evansville’s
Indiana Members Credit Union. Additional charges are likely.

The work that our Evansville Police Department Detectives put into this investigation prompted a multi-jurisdictional investigation leading to two arrests and the recovery of a significant amount of money. They are to be commended for the detail, effort, and time they put into the resolution of this case and for helping to put a
stop to these offenders robbing additional banks. We are appreciative of the working relationship between our agency and the other agencies who were involved in this case.

Four UE Theatre Alumni Honored with Tony Award for Broadway Play STEREOPHONIC

NEW YORK, NY (06/17/2024) STEREOPHONIC has captured the coveted Tony Award for Best Play at the 77th Annual Tony Awards, held at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater on Sunday. This accolade crowns an extraordinary night for the production, which made history in April as the most Tony-nominated play in Broadway’s storied history.

The American Theatre Wing had previously announced the nominations on April 30, and the buzz surrounding STEREOPHONIC has only grown since then. With a record-breaking 13 nominations, STEREOPHONIC led the pack and secured five major awards on Sunday. In addition to Best Play (David Adjimi, playwright), the production was honored with awards for Best Direction of a Play (Daniel Aukin), Best Featured Actor in a Play (Will Brill), Best Sound Design of a Play (Ryan Rumery), and Best Scenic Design of a Play (David Zinn).

The production has strong ties to University of Evansville Theatre (UET), with four alumni playing key roles. Among them are lead producer Nick Mills and co-producer Assistant Professor Wes Grantom, both from the class of 2003, who are now Tony Award-winners. Additional contributions come from Miriam Cortes ’21, Assistant Costume Designer, and Benjamin Anderson ’15, the understudy actor for the roles of “Charlie” and “Peter.”

“We’re all incredibly proud of this show. Winning these awards and making history as the most Tony-nominated play of all time is a dream come true. The dedication and talent of this cast and creative team are unparalleled,” said Grantom.

Loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac and their seminal album Rumours, STEREOPHONIC delves into the creative struggles and triumphs of a rising rock band in 1976. The narrative captures the band at a critical juncture in a music studio, facing the pressures that could either lead to their breakup or breakthrough. Featuring original music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, the play provides an intimate, fly-on-the-wall experience of a band on the brink of stardom.
